The Night Fae Suffer the Consequences: Mission Table Problems

Recommended Posts

cqmTiHj.jpg

The recent round of tuning saw the Night Fae combo nerfed significantly and now it seems plenty of players are having problems with their adventures!

The tuning saw the incredibly OP Trapper Bramble Trap ability get redesigned, which meant that Night Fae players couldn't just send a bunch of the troop and whichever companion (usually Dreamweaver, as he's powerful in his own right) on missions far above their level and complete them no problem. So what's the issue now, surely the Night Fae are just now experiencing what the Venthyr and Kyrian were since launch right?

Well not quite, as with the crazy combo, NF players pushed to the maximum with campaign missions and their adventures are now very high level, with some having gotten to level 60 already with low level companions (20-30). That means that they now basically can't finish any missions at all and are stuck, at least for a while, farming XP. But there's no XP missions at the final level of adventures either, so they just have to go and fail the gold elite ones to get around 1.5k XP each, and get all the companions sent beaten up and having to heal for a long time! And considering the anima costs of healing, as you can imagine, they're not too happy about it.

Here's just a few of the threads of players being quite unhappy with how this all played out:

And here's how it worked before, as a level 27 Dreamweaver and 4 trappers take down a level 60 mission:

So, are the Night Fae getting their just deserts after having it so easy for so long, or is this actually also unfair, as they are now stuck failing missions for quite a while?

I've found it very frustrating that the further along you progress with the mission table, you get fewer xp missions. And yet we keep getting given new followers at lvl one. How are they supposed to level up? The table should really keep providing a few missions at lower levels, until all your followers are maxed.

Offcourse it isn't fair. They didn't chose to have an OP-troop, it was given to them as a basic thing. Offcourse you're going to use it and do all those adventures, they had no knowledge of being so far ahead might backfire in this way if they suddenly got nerfed hard. There is no reason to put any blame or punishment on the Night Fae-players for simply playing the game, and there should be a solution available for them.

This is from a Kyrian player just to be clear.

since the first nerf to the melee trapper troop i can't complete 90% of the missions, now i can't complete any of them BUT some anima ones, for now im just sending my followers to death to farm exp until they get a buff or something, sad but i saw it coming.

since the nerf i stopped doing missions. my quests are at max level while my highest follower is lvl 39. before nerf i used to put every follower in a single mission, now its just a waste of anima since you cant complete most missions succesfully and i need the anima to upgrade my garden

I will never understand why they chose to do missions this way.  The missions available should match the level range of your followers. It's so easy it's obvious. When you pick up a new follower, you should have a LOW level (<5) mission available for them, and the highest level missions should never far exceed your highest level follower.

Most of our companions were on par with the Venthyr/Bastion companions. On the one hand, the Trappers were very powerful - On the other hand, they were also a crutch.

And now that the Trappers have been nerfed, Night Fae are on par with pre-buff Venthyr/Bastion - Bottom of the pile. If not somewhat worse.

It doesn't make any sense to punish someone for someone else's mistakes. My assumption was that the covenants were balanced but that wasn't true. Spending 50 anima for just 1500 xp is worse than the missions that would give bonus xp. You don't have to spend anima to heal your companions since they are going to fail anyway. I used to think that I had to spend anima to heal them, but they will naturally heal over time. Spending a huge amount of anima to heal your companions is just a scam in my opinion. Another big problem is that your troops can go down in level. I assume it is because I got new companions that my troops lost maybe 12 levels. I have to decide if I want to spend anima leveling my companions on missions that are going to fail or spend it on other things. It feels like I'm at a big disadvantage compared to other people that can still use the bonus xp missions and not be forced to fail their missions.

To be fair I did the mistake of completing the advancement missions too soon even on my Necrolord main (which were widely regarded as the strongest covenant when not taking Trappers into account) and pretty much been suiciding to 1500 xp missions for a few months now, its just how the adventures work right now once you do 12 / 16 missions 😞, does feel a bit bad to level new companions like that, on the other hand I'm taking it easy on my Venthyr priest just leaving that 12th advancement mission to rot and he's cruising with no problems, but also rarely if ever gets to loot 6 augment runes from a single mission and ofc, wouldn't have gotten the 4 mounts yet without the Necrolord overleveling, so really both methods have their ups and downs (more consistent / cheaper progress with lower level missions, but better rewards at the top).

Think it would benefit our Fae bros to read the guide I penned on the adventures and how to position / gauge troop abilities accordingly 🙂 leaving the link here for anyone interested: https://www.icy-veins.com/wow/covenant-adventures-in-the-shadowlands-expansion

Is there a way to do the level 20 soul ash mission now as night fae?  I haven't leveled up the missions, all of mine are still 14-20, and my crew is around level 25, but it doesn't seem like there's a way to complete the mission any more.  If anyone has a combo for it that works currently can you please post it?

Over level it, put tanky / damage reducing adventurers in the spots taking the most damage (check the red spots when mousing over the placed adventurers with Venture Plan addon installed) and have your healers / strong damage dealing characters with weak health on the spots taking little to no damage, then check the book for the mission success estimation. Even if you cannot do it with your current 25 crew, you can go get more from Torghast and from maxing out your Renown and work towards leveling the ones with really strong powers further! Good luck 🙂

Other players are not your enemies...
This isn't a problem that night fae was too powerful before.
It's a problem that venthyr and kyrian was too weak.
Whenever they nerf something to the ground and create a void like this, then players are getting hurt.
They could easily have brought other cov's up to par instead and that wouldn't have created this bad feeling (which was entirely blizz's fault from lack of testing.)

this is the last straw. i'm done with this expac.

Your last straw is that you knowingly cheesed the system and are mad because you're punished for it?

the table is super dumb, cheesing it was the only thing that SEMI made it worth while, was only using it to get pet charms, guess i'll just get a few less pets as quickly.... it's way too convoluted for something that rewards nothing useful imo, it was perfect amount of difficult in legion

Funny thing about nerfing is that if you don't know it's happening...it doesn't. I may have noticed quests getting a bit more demanding but since I am running quests on all 4 covenant tables I hardly noticed. Ignorance is bliss in this situation.

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
