Castle Nathria 9.0.5 Tank and Healer Log Rankings and Analysis: Week 1

Recommended Posts

Now that the patch has settled down a little we thought we'd take a look at the tanks and healers in Mythic Castle Nathria, with a look at the logs and some analysis from out class guide writers! But first, let's take a look at the logs themselves. Since the 95th and all percentile charts have the same rankings, we'll only be looking at all percentiles.

We'll start with the tank DPS, which isn't necessarily a great metric for tanking performance overall, but it's the only one we've got! Prot Palas are still massively dominating the damage side of things with Druids also standing out quite a bit and then the rest being pretty close together:

While Paladins didn't really get affected by the patch, Brewmasters acutally did quite a lot, albeit indirectly, but we'll let our experts explain.

Protection Paladin by Panthea:

Quote

Protection Paladin did not receive any changes in patch 9.0.5 that would impact how it plays in the raid environment. However, some adjustments to the bosses that we have seen so far have made it so that pieces of those encounters that may have previously been challenging for Protection Paladins are now more forgiving.

Brewmaster Monk by Sinzhu:

Quote

Brewmasters are one of the specializations that stayed largely untouched in Patch 9.0.5. None of their abilities were directly altered, and the buffs that were given to the legendaries of Shaohao's Might Shaohao's Might and Memory of a Celestial Infusion Celestial Infusion (aka Mighty Pour Mighty Pour) were still insignificant enough to not result in a major shift in choice for the vast majority of content players see. While there was a buff to the damage output of Fallen Order Fallen Order, it has only served to bring up an outlier for a specialization where all Covenant choices were already at least viable. The changes to Fleshcraft Fleshcraft, in particular, could result in an upswing of Necrolord Brewmasters rather than the current Kyrian majority in some content - a few Brewmasters at the very highest end of Mythic+ have already begun experimenting with both it and Celestial Infusion.

Ironically, what may be more meta-shifting for Brewmasters are the consequences of the bugfixes and subsequent shuffle in damage experienced by Windwalkers this patch. Although they are still capable of acceptable output, the harm dealt to the community's perception of the specialization's potential could result in fewer Windwalkers being brought into progression raiding once again. Consequently, this would all but mandate the presence of a Brewmaster to supply Mystic Touch Mystic Touch and guarantee seeing them brought by most guilds regardless of their current weakness to damage-over-time debuffs.

Then we're on to healers, where the stats are much more relevant with HPS values, and we see a almost shockingly balanced affair, aside from Holy, with Druids on top:

Restoration Druid by Torty:

Quote

With the buffs to Rejuvenation Rejuvenation and Wild Growth Wild Growth, Restoration Druids received around a 6-7% buff to their overall throughput in raids. Not only did it put Druids on top of HPS on higher damage taken encounters, but it also specifically improved their already incredible burst window. The Verdant Infusion Verdant Infusion legendary buff will also allow Druids to swap to a lot heavier tank healing on certain encounters if there is a need. At the cost of a small hit to raid healing they are able to absolutely dominate healing on one of the tanks, surpassing both Paladins and Monks in that niche.

Mistweaver Monk by Dhaubbs:

Quote

Not much has changed with respect to Mistweaver for the 9.0.5 patch, with the two major changes being mana cost reduction of Renewing Mist Renewing Mist and Vivify Vivify. Over the course of an average raid encounter, the mana you will save will net you roughly the amount it would take to cast extra 2-3 Essence Font Essence Fonts. This is a somewhat small, though very welcome change to our class.

The other implication of this mana cost reduction, is how efficient Vivify is compared to Essence Font at certain numbers of active Renewing Mist Renewing Mists. Prior to these changes, it required 5 Renewing Mists to be active in order for Vivify to be as efficient as Essence Font, while now at 5 buffs out, not only is it more efficient than an Essence Font, but if you have the Tear of Morning Tear of Morning legendary equipped, it's more efficient even at 4 Renewing Mists.

Restoration Shaman by Seksi:

Quote

Shaman continues to be the most represented class in Mythic Nathria by a large margin, as it is brings strong healing and utility, which are the most important things for guilds progressing through Mythic right now, as gear levels are high and so is damage output: as long as you can keep people alive, you are virtually guaranteed to kill any bosses you still have remaining.

There were no nerfs of note to the class, and instead its area of effect damage was significantly buffed, but due to the very low baseline and requirement to stop healing in order to do any meaningful damage, it is still one of the weakest healers in the damage output department. Some less used legendaries and most Covenant abilities were buffed, including Fleshcraft Fleshcraft from the already popular Necrolord Covenant, which makes balance between legendaries and abilities better, but also does not create a "new king". So anyone comfortable with their current playstyle can safely continue as before, but expect to see more off-meta Covenant and legendary choices going forward, as well.

And finally, let's take a quick look at Heroic for comparison, which hasn't quite caught up with some of the patch changes and is looking a little different than Mythic:

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
