Insiders at Blizzard Say Patch 9.1 Unlikely to Release in June 2021

Recommended Posts

56793-patch-91-release-date-speculation.

Insiders at Blizzard say that Patch 9.1 releasing in June 2021 would be too optimistic. Will the patch go live in July/August?

While Legion pumped out patches steadily every 77 days, Shadowlands is clearly behind schedule. The expansion got delayed due to the ongoing health crisis, and we recently learned that Patch 9.1 would be delayed too.

In a new video released by Towelliee, the streamer asked someone at Blizzard when would Patch 9.1 hit Public Test Realms, and all he got was a shrug, even though the patch was supposed to go live on test realms shortly after Blizzconline 2021.

Quote

"Ladies and gentlemen, Shadowlands is behind. 9.1 we might not see that until August. I asked someone over there how's PTR looking for 9.1 and got a shrug."

What's more concerning, though, is that we might not see Patch 9.1 until August. Towelliee's second question deals with the release date of Chains of Domination, which is unlikely to release in June.

Quote

"How's June looking for 9.1 release?" I asked and literally was told June would be optimistic for 9.1 to come out.

So it looks like we're in for a couple of months of Castle Nathria. You can watch the portion of the video that deals with 9.1 below.

Well, since the previous source of this particular claim was Towelliee again, I personally reserve the right to remain sceptical until some other sources, especially some official ones support that claim. Until then, it's just sourceless speculation.

I dont normally unsub even between expansions but this time i dont think i am going to make it past may without a break. Now if 9.1 happens to land then i will remain subbed, though i do need thousand of anima for cosmetics. That said i have resigned myself to get almost none of the cosmetics or mounts at current prices or anima flow rates so a break seems in order.

Exactly.

With that said, time lines are  forever changing. If Blizzard sees a drastic number of lost subs because of a delay, they will shuffle resources around and do what it takes to get it done.

I'm on a retail "break" and I don't think I"m the only one. I have 10 level 60s and there is nothing but tedious and repetitive quests and covenant dailies. I sure don't do Choreghast.

Good thing there are other games out there who are evolving and not using the pandemic as an excuse to delay and cut back on everything.

I'm very skeptical of this info and I'll just focus on my own personal progression ingame till 9.1 is released.  I'm still curious of the nature of the new Raid and the new Mega Dungeon that was mentioned in Blizzcon online.

WoW isn't the only one still affected by the pandemic even if it's on the tail end of being closed. Let Blizzard take their time, besides there other games and activities to enjoy while taking a break from WoW.

Eh... it is what it is. I've got plenty to do in-game to farm cosmetic stuff, run Choreghast if I want to (screw Twisting Corridors, tho... that's distinctly UNfun for me), and I have some alts that need to hop on the SL train. That said, I'm concerned there's nary a peep out of Blizzard about the 9.1 that was supposed to be on PTR after BlizzConline.

Shadowlands has been riddled with bugs that should have been resolved in beta testing and should never have been released in November.  It's clear people stuck inside for COVID and end-of-year sales drove a premature release.  Shadowlands should have been released after the 1st of the year.  So naturally Blizz has been caught with their pants down on the first major patch, which is also why we saw nothing but concept art at Blizzconline.  It took Blizzard 3.5 months to get 905 in our hands.  So we're expecting Blizzard to get concept art from the end of February to tested playable content in our hands by May?  Just being a realistic.  I'm expecting an untested bugfest released in late July or early August.

Regardless of its release schedule, I hope the bugs are ironed out before they throw it in our laps.  I'm not paying to be a beta tester, and although there have been some good things to come out of Shadowlands, I'm not sure what I dislike more, the bugs or the time-gating.

Realistically, I think because of "Covey" many of us have fallen on hard times or had to have some life changes. I highly doubt Blizzard is any exception although some of us place them on a pedestal above all of this.  I thought 9.0 was released way too early. We should have gotten it around Feb. Subs be damned. Players with no patience be careful what you ask for you might just get it. Just look at how Shadowlands was released. Take out all the multi layered systems and gated content and what do we have left? Some of that had to be because SLs was rushed (God I hope so). Lets wait and get a finished product. Then if it turns out to be *filtered* lets give them hell. There is a unlimited number of games I can play until then.

True, also the fact how slow anima gain is, it looks like they probably slowed it more than originally intended, so people wouldn't run out of stuff to do too quickly (covenant upgrades etc.).

So far this patch looks like pretty standard mid-expansion update, sort of reminiscent of Throne of Thunder one from MoP and the likes. We're getting new island, raid and some stuff added to existing systems. There is a lot to test, pretty unlikely we would see it in may/june anyway.

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
