Heroes of the Storm Live Patch Notes: May 18, 2021

The latest Heroes of the Storm has now been deployed to live servers. It comes with 5 Hero reworks and other adjustments that are detailed in the official patch notes by Blizzard.

The patch became available for testing on Public Test Realms a week ago. Additional changes made since then are highlighted in orange.

General

Experience Globes

  • Experience Globes will no longer time out after 6 seconds. Instead, they will shrink and become worth 25% of their original value for an additional 39 seconds.
Developer Comment: We are continuously looking for gameplay changes that make the game more fun while also educating the player base. This change does both - giving teams that missed the crucial 6 second timing window a chance for partial redemption while, at the same time, showing players where they are missing valuable experience via lane soaking. The team has been enjoying how this plays internally and are eager to hear your feedback.

Search Term Update

Developer Comment: We are constantly looking for ways of improving the player experience. This update should help players in Storm League find whom they are looking for. Common terms across the MOBA Genre have been added to many heroes allowing players to search for things like Double Soak, Sustain, Escape, Camps, Burst, Mage, Stun, CC, etc. Please give the ones listed a try and others you may think of. You may find it comes up with something you expect. Remember that if you need an alphabetical return you will need to have the Alphabetical flag turned on.

Developer Comment: Anduin has a wealth of effective talents, but most of them were stuck in the later talent tiers. We'd like to shake that up and let him have some fun earlier in the game.

Developer Comment: It’s been a while since we really dove deep into Johanna’s Talent Tree and her incoming cosplay skin gave us a good chance to do just that. On top of that, we are experimenting with a new Loan style Talent type and would love to hear your guys’ feedback on them!

Developer Comment: While Jimmy had a pretty large overhaul a while back, we definitely had some more room to make things more interesting and fun. We wanted to make sure that he was still pretty straight forward to play, but we wanted to inject more fun into his Talent Tree, especially his Level 20’s.

Heroes Rework: Stitches

Base

    • Additional Functionality: Upon reaching level 13, Hook’s range is increased by 40%.

    • Cooldown increased from 7 to 8 seconds.
    • Inner area Slow duration increased from 1.5 to 2 seconds.
    • No longer deals additional damage to Minions, Mercenaries, and Monsters.
  • Vile Gas [Trait Passive]
    • New Functionality:
      • Enemies hit by Basic Attacks or the inner area of Slam are afflicted with Vile Gas, dealing 27 damage over 3 seconds. Deals 150% increased damage to Minions, Mercenaries, and Monsters.
    • New Active Functionality - Shambling Horror:
      • Activate to spread Vile Gas to nearby enemies every second and prevent Stitches’ Movement Speed from being reduced below 110% for 5 seconds.

      • New Functionality:
        • Gain 3 Armor for each enemy afflicted by Vile Gas, doubled while Shambling Horror is active. This effect stacks up to 8 times.

        • Quest: Hitting a Hero with Devour increases Stitches’ health regeneration by 1.5 and the damage of Vile Gas by 2%, stacking up to 100 times.

Developer Comment: Our favorite large lad is back and hungrier than ever! We're giving our best beefy boi a new baseline ability called Shambling Horror that should help him saunter in and out of combat a bit more consistently. This ability, combined with a plethora of new and reworked talents, should make his immediate presence more dangerous. We've also decided to bake in the benefits of the old Fishing Hook talent at level 13. This talent was simply too fun and effective to the point where it became impossible to design reasonable alternatives. We hope the totality of these changes will breathe new un-life into a Hero that has fallen out of favor over the years.

      • Added Functionality: Lower the cooldown of Vault by 5 seconds. Increase the damage bonus of Vault from 50 to 150%. If the target dies within 1.5 seconds, refund 50 Mana and refresh the cooldown on Vault.

      • No longer reduces the Mana cost of Hungering Arrow.
    • Frost Shot [Q/W]
      • Moved from Level 16.
      • New Functionality: Enemies hit by Multishot are Slowed by 20% for 2.5 seconds. Hungering Arrow deals 25% more damage to Slowed enemies.
    • Hot Pursuit [Trait]
      • Moved from Level 1.
      • New Functionality: Increase the Movement Speed bonus per Hatred stack to 2.5%.

Developer Comment: Our resident Demon Hunter has one of the most diverse Talent Trees in the game, so our main goal with these changes were to inject some new cross-synergies and brighten up the design of some of her blander talents. As with the other reworks, we are testing a new Loan Talent, so please send us your feedback on them!

Developer Comment: D.Va’s Mech is still slightly more powerful than we’d like, and it’s giving D.Va the edge over other Heroes before considering her capabilities with Self-Destruct and Pilot mode. She also has some talents with some suffering pick rates that we hope are now more attractive.

Hogger

Base

    • Damage bonus per point of Rage reduced from 1% to .5%.

Developer Comment: Hogger is inching closer towards what we feel is a healthy state of balance, but the PvE efficacy that Hogg Wild offers is still keeping him above many other Bruisers. We think increasing the baseline damage and re-focusing the Rage bonuses towards PvP only will help in this regard.

Sonya

      • Healing from damage dealt reduced from 100% to 60%.
Developer Comment: Sonya has been overperforming, so she is getting a sizable decrease in strength. We're trying something a little different with Shattered Ground by separating its existing benefits based on its target, and we hope this change is more interesting than simply numerically reducing its bonus.

The Lost Vikings

Base

We're also normalizing Globe of Annihilation's level scaling since his Q builds are underperforming at most levels of play.

It's been so long since the last major patch and event like this! Huge hero changes, but it looks like these Overwatch cosplay skins don't have any new effects, they look pretty nice though.

I am a bit disappointed Anduin didn't get any new skins. At least a Mercy recolor for one of his existing skins would've been nice.

As for the globes, yeah, this will make dual soaking way more valuable now for Heroes like Stitches, who has a globe quest.

I think it's just for experience globes though, not regen globes. However I might be mistaken. 🤷‍♂️

Ohhh you're right. I've completely misread it. I thought they were referring to regen globes. Still, part of my statement is not wrong as it will make dual soaking more viable now. 😄

Looks like skins from previous events are now bundle only. Not sure if intentional or a bug, because new Overwatch cosplay skins don't have their own bundles. There are also no new portraits related to new skins in the shop, however they were present in ptr build. Chests are marked as Nexomania ones, so they skipped spring event and went straight into summer one. Understandable, but it's weird those Dark Nexus and Nexomania skins haven't returned, guess we will have to wait and see if it's a bug after all or intentional.

Edit: New skins aren't marked as event ones as well, so perhaps they aren't tied to summer event.

I am PO'd I couldn't buy the Deathwing skins separate. Not spending 3.5k gems on a bundle for a single skin, lol.

 

Also after playing 8 Valla games last night, she is pretty crazy. I went Multi shot build every time. One game I capped 175,000 hero damage.

If you can get some good shots in with multiple heroes early, it helps tremendously to get the ball rolling. It was very useful on maps like infernal shrines for the objectives as well.

Not many people seem to understand the new Death Siphon either, which lead to some crazy cleanup kills.

If you mean his Dark Nexus skins, store might be bugged and not displaying them separately. For example, there is also a non-existent bundle for Overwatch skins on the splash screen, but link doesn't lead anywhere (and no such bundle can be found). There are several past event skins outside of those bundles that are nowhere to be found. New stuff is marked simply as "skin" without any category, and as mentioned in my previous post, new event portraits are also missing.

Does anyone know why we have access to Nexomania loot chests? (which is summer) but with all the dark nexus (chinese new year) stuff avalible? I have tracer Summer, Stitches summer ect... skins I wanted to get but they aren't avalible to unlock? what's going on?

The new skins are not tied to any events this time. So there is no time duration. They did add new portaits, though. They're all in the Nexus category. I haven't checked the sprays yet.

Looks like it, not sure if it's intentional or not, also their bundle is still missing and those skins are lacking their descriptions (not marked as rare, epic or legendary). I wonder how long it's going to take them to fix it. People have reported that chests apparently still drop Summer/Nexomania items, but none of them are in the shop, except for some bundles, but even bundles don't have everything from spring and summer events.

Samuro Base Image Transmission [Trait] Fixed an issue that allowed Samuro to cast Image Transmission on a destroyed Mirror Image if it was queued to happen directly after Mirror Image was cast. If Samuro activates Image Transmission or if a new Mirror Image is created, any Mirror Images that are updated will copy Blessing of the Red if it is present on Samuro instead of increasing their maximum Health as if Blessing of the Red were cast on them. Level 7 Crushing Blows Fixed an issue that caused Crushing Blows to apply to the triggering Critical Strike. Level 20 Three Blade Style Fixed an issue that caused Three Blade Style to increase Mirror Image maximum health if Samuro gained Blessing of the Red between the Images being created and the talent being selected.       Image Transmission [Trait] Advancing Strikes will now copy Samuro's state for the following: creating a new Mirror Image, Image Transmission, Deflection, Press the Attack. Wind Walk [E] Wind Walk will no longer cancel move and attack commands in the command queue when activated. Critical Strike [W] Activating Critical Strike while Samuro's Basic Attack is being swung will now apply to that attack, rather than the next attack, and will carry the attack reset over to the next Basic Attack. Samuro can now see his Critical Strike progress below his Healthplate. Samuro can now see the remaining duration of Critical Strike's activation around the ability button.
