Sylvanas Windrunner Official Defeat Cinematic in Sanctum of Domination

Recommended Posts

Sylvanas has been taken down in the Sanctum of Domination which means we get to see the cinematic and find out what happens to her (and the rest)! It seems someone jumped the gun or leaked the unlisted cinematic, as no guilds seem to have cleared the raid, even on Normal so far.

As originally spotted by MrGM.

Huh... Guess my hopes for Jailer not being a MWHAHAHA villian were too much.

Also, since the Arbiter seems to have dissapated, the machine of Death is *filtered*. Unless someone replaces her.

(Sigh) Someone...

I think this is cool,, i was hoping Sylvanas will be still here. I'm just wondering how Tyrande will react on that

i'm sick of the people who will whine just for sake of whining.

Let's see what happens next

That is a much cooler look for the Jailor. Also, I love the last bit with him and Anduin. It's so cute. Come on, my son! Let's go end reality!

Sylvanas just hasn't been built up right to pay off now. Falls flat and feels absurd to me.

Maybe this was what Sylvanas was hoping too. 😉

I think all we can hope for is that our mwhahaha villains have cool masks and aren't bald weirdos. Mission accomplished!

The look is fine, a proper Lich King and all (the hole is still bothering me), it's just I've picked up a familiar old game to pass the time before 9.1 and its villian is, much like Zovaal, was stripped of his (pentiful) characterization potential in favor of being "mwhahaha" guy who just wants to be a god ruling the world.

Talk about an insult to injury now.

I hardly understood a word the jailer said!

REVERB

Watching it again just to pick up on that, his body language is good. A lot of it is stereotypical Warcraft, but other bits are nice. The little tilt of the head is great.

Also, something which nags me: I wish they'd stop putting brand new magical effects into cinematics and making them significant. It's very hard to know whether you missed something. Is Sylvanas just throwing banshee bolts or is it some magic we've never even seen before!? Did Tyranda forget to eat her Weetabix or did Elune troll her? Did Zovaal give Sylvanas back her soul like we all think he did or did he... turn her into a death knight? Who knows.

So she's getting Kerrigan treatment, as Jaina and Thrall will likely spare her. Jailer didn't have much exposure and background besides "foolish mortals", he's pretty much written like Malthael or, even worse, Azmodan from Diablo.

I dare say Malthael had at least plausible reasons for the crap he did, rather than ego and being unsatisfied with the world getting to his head... or... whatever he has under that hood.

Oh come on, a redemption for the mass murderer of the Night Elves and countless others? seriously? Blizzard, you are so highly predictable.

I know you are being told to do this, but this is getting tiresome.

Ok, is Sylvannas just the dumbest "mastermind" in history or what?

Years she spends serving the jailor.    Unquestioningly sending legions of both horde and alliance to the maw undeserved to be used as soul fuel in torment.   Lich King treatment for Anduin.    Brought Thrall, Jaina, Baine and Anduin to the maw specifically to torment them (note that the Jailor didn't know of Anduin's powers yet).

And suddenly goes crapbananas at the word "Serve".    All she's been doing is serving for years.

And this Mastermind's genius play is to shoot an arrow at the jailor, whose size makes it the equivalent of a q-tip.    Imbued with his own power as he's now also armored to boot.    You know, instead of at least playing along, maybe quietly freeing anduin and escaping after some subtle sabotage or such?

Seriously this is just So. Very. Stupid.

I'm not sure she'll get the kind of redemption arc you're thinking.  I believe Sylvanas (with her missing half back), will become hyper aware of what she did.  She'll have a meltdown in her cell, ask to do a youtube apology video to the nelves, and then probably serve probation to help beat Zovaal.  Also, she's now, like reeeeally conflicted and stuff, so that makes her more interesting?  Hopefully, her story will end with the expansion.

Sums up my impression of it exactly. So underwhelming. So nonsensical. If she suddenly decides she doesn't want to work for him any more because of the word 'serve' and not every other horrible thing he did, why doesn't he just force her like he did with Anduin? Why the stupid villain monologue and leaving the protagonists to kill her?

The Jailer's voice is so distorted I couldn't understand parts of the dialogue.

It's too much to hope that Bolvar and Jaina kill her, and I suppose it's too much to hope they will beat the excrement out of her and we next encounter her with her face stoved in and too swollen to see her silly blue eyes, which I assume is supposed to represent that he put the part of her that was sundered back and why she committed genocide and was smug and annoying, but was again completely anticlimactic as it was never established what it was and why she coveted it so much.

I was going to go into a whole rage thing, but... just yes. Infinitely stupid. Stupidly written, stupidly planned. Stupid. It's not even about the redemption, I don't much care, but THAT was the TURNING POINT of YEARS of Sylvanas characterization and mass murdering insanity? GG WoW. GG.

That part makes sense, I actually liked the Jailer's play there. He doesn't need her anymore. At all. He punishes her by giving her her good soul back so she can suffer. He's not too upset about it either, he clearly expected it. Maybe the first good characterization for the Jailer ever.

But the rest? Pure dumpster fire.

This! Why she couldn't just pretend to continue working for him, even if she didn't want to "serve" (although this is exactly what she was doing anyway 😅)? For someone who was supposedly doing a lot of stuff "behind the scenes" she suddenly gets angry and does something so stupid. Like, wouldn't she know that arrow can't stop the Jailer?

I really defended blizzards story telling for a long time
Even when people where unloading one of the most devastating shitstorm on blizzard over the bfa story
i still defended it and more i saw potential in it

but this is just ridiculous i mean really ofc she was suppose to serve i mean what did she do all the time?
she will get her redemption arc and i know i wont like it

i mean if she doesn't wanted her to die then just do the sargeras thing and imprision her that would be better then what it is to come
she will sacrifice herself or she will be forgiven in terms of taken atonement either way she will be redeemed ...

very unhappy about this so called twist but i guess after shadowlands it can only get better or ?

It's like what I said in another topic before. Their writers are notoriously writing themselves into a corner with no end-game. They're very clearly making it up as they go along, and then reach a point of "oh snap, how do we get out of this?"

A few things to consider -

  • She didn't know Nathanos was dead, though the Jailer clearly would have with all souls coming directly to the Maw, she believed herself to be a sufficient partner to Zovaal's schemes that he would not do something like that
  • Working with Zovaal to break what she perceived as a flawed system is not the same as the echo of slavery she heard in "Serve" that reminded her of Arthas as the Lich King
  • We've known for some time that her soul was damaged and missing a portion, and most writers follow a duality split of morality when using this plot device. Like Uther, she cannot truly begin an afterlife until her soul is made whole, even if it means she goes and spends a few millennia in Revendreth

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
