Top Raiders' Best Raids of All Time Tier List

Recommended Posts

P5kleHr.jpg

As the Sanctum of Domination Race to World First arrives next week, it seemed like the perfect time to check in on the top raiding community's thoughts on all the raids that came before.

Raider.IO asked many raiders from the top guilds to rate all the raids of WoW so far, as each made their own tier list and I compiled it into one combined giant final one. Some of them also talked about their thoughts on their favorite raids, elaborating on what made them special. It was a pretty huge undertaking and I'm very happy with the results, and as mentioned in the original article, before you check out the final rankings, you can make your own tier list and see how it compares to the top raiders' (I did the same here).

Well, without further ado, here's the list, courtesy of Raider.IO, and you can check out the guilds participating, the methodology behind it and a lot more info  in the original article:

ultimate_tier_list.png

A few interesting facts about it, it seems many top raiders rated the early Vanilla and BC raids rather harshly, possibly because of Classic and the relatively negative light it showed them in, whereas the WotLK raids remained mostly unscathed, as they are safely locked away in memory. Crucible of Storms was also the most controversial and divisive raid, with plenty of raiders putting it as an S tier raid, and others as a D. Dragon soul just barely managed to crawl out of the D position, as it did have some pretty cool and innovative mechanics and fights. All in all this was a really fun thing to do (if exhausting to pick out all the data from the images and calculate it all) and it's interesting how each guild had a very specific angle on the rankings depending on which part of WoW they were playing/most successful in (which is why the ratings are averaged out by guild).

You can (and definitely should) check out the reasons behind these ratings, as the top raiders talk about their picks over at Raider.IO!

"WHY ICC AND ULDUAR ARE NOT SSS+ GOD TIER?!?!" guys coming in 3... 2... 1...

----

That's a pretty high ranking for the Trial of Valor. Maybe also would move Heart of Fear a tier up, but otherwise looks good.

Wait Trial of Valor...what?    Am I confusing the raid names now?    How does the garbage one room raid with bosses being timegated a week apart each rate so high?

Are you meaning Trial of the Crusader? Trial of Valor is with Helya

Bullshit

ToT is objectively the better raid. Better bosses better mechanics, probably the best endboss even in Lei Shen. Ulduar is the better overall experience as it was an incredible innovative raid with some insanely good lore.

Helya is quite popular.

Both ICC and Ulduar were relatively close to S actually, with Nightold just barely getting in there.

That would be fine, only three-four of bosses in each that I'd call lousy mechanically, mostly the nod to the crazed fanboys of WotLK.

Thinking Nighthold deserves its spot too though, but I'm rather biased for visuals here and Gul'dan encounter. But Throne and Foundry most certainly do belong in there, had a blast in my time.

Yea the top 2 were pretty much a given, just cos it's top raiders. I'm sure a populist list would look a lot different. But since compiling all that data nearly killed my I'm sure as shit not doing all that again 😄

Black temple belongs higher, at least A tier. In hindsight of course it's old/boring, but at the time it was incredible

I'd also bump dazar'alor up a tier

I feel this is a weird suggestion the article makes. Most TBC and Vanilla raids simply don't pop as much as later ones. We didn't need Classic to tell us that.

Take Battleguard Sartura. In terms of memorability she's a mob given boss status. The fight may or may not be interesting -- but it's hard to have great memories of a boss if you can't even remember its name. I had to look her up. Compare that to ICC, where I can give you quotes from every single boss.

And if that's not a fair comparison, compare Sartura to C'thun. C'thun is a memorable fight and a memorable boss. You can't forget him.

But memorable bosses are the exception rather than the rule in Vanilla. TBC is much better. WotLK is the first place there's barely any filler. It's easy to forget any given Vanilla boss and they mostly have awfully simple fights. Even when viewed through rose-tinted glasses it's hard to rank them above what came later.

It surprises me Hyjal isn't D or at least Asterisk tier. Glad to see BRF at the top.

I'm sorry but if you think the way Classic presented the bosses and raids didn't affect player perceptions you're just very wrong. There's no way Molten Core and many of the other rated very low (I'm talking individual player votes here) can ever be considered that low viewed objectively. Basically most of the extremely low scores (IMO) can be attributed to the players having played them in Classic and not in Vanilla/BC. The culture around the raids in Classic is just not even remotely the same and those raids can't be put in the context of today's raiders or WoW culture (guides, logs, parsing, addons, 39 warriors in the raid, ALL strats known decades in advance etc). Believe me when Trial of the Crusader (and in some cases, even Ruby fucking Sanctum) is rated higher than MC, SSC and even BT, something's VERY off.

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
