How to Always Get Flawless Score in Torghast (Patch 9.1)

Recommended Posts

57651-torghast-needs-to-be-more-rewardin

Torghast comes with a new system that rewards you based on your final score, and here is a great write-up to help you earn 200+ points and get a 5-star Flawless score.

The guide comes from Reddit user DefinitelyIsNotKyle. If you want a Flawless score in Torghast, don't die. The first death is tolerated but every subsequent one will subtract 20 from your final score.

You should also avoid all traps, free all souls, complete all side quests, collect all Phantasma and destroy all Ashen Phylacteries, kill the final boss 3i6h 500+ leftover Phantasma, use a Ravenous Anima Cell Ravenous Anima Cell on a Floor 3 broker, and pick no Epic Anima Powers, according to the player.

Avoiding duplicate Anima Powers is also recommended. Empowerments should be used to kill the Floor 5 boss in 20 seconds. You can read the entire write-up below.

You know a system is confused when someone need to make a 20 line+ guide to explain 'how to be good at it'.

Master degreee is less hard than this

gotta love how Blizz devs think:  "Hey what's something else in the game we can change so it feels like you have to min/max it every time to get the best reward?"

not really...the guide says "Ignore trying to avoid duplicate powers", which only makes sense when there are powers that let you hit for 700k a final boss.

What do you mean, "change?" If you play Torghast the way you've been doing it since day 1, you'll still probably get the 4 stars pretty trivially and unlock the next layers. This is just for those who want to put in the extra effort to do the extra levels.

Hell, I just finished a Mort'regar run where I died twice, took an epic power, completely failed in my plan to kill elites with the empowered buff, only got a 99% on a floor, only had a few hundred phasma at the last boss...and still received a flawless score. It's not nearly as tight as all the whining would suggest.

As someone who has genuinely enjoyed doing Torghast/Twisting Corridors since release, I still cannot wrap my head around Blizzard saying, "Players have given us feedback that the 5 death limit per player was too punishing, and we hear you, so we've decided to make even 1 death make or break your score and punish you for leaving a mawrat or pot left unbroken before completing your run.
 ❤️ You're welcome!"

Btw guys, if u will just break big amounts of phylactery and kill couple of mobs, while under the empowered effect that should be enough to get 220 points...i cant see a problem at all...  😄

This is kinda disingenuous. There's no "need" to hit the timer. Just get your soul ash and go on about your day.

For the people that want to challenge themselves and beat the metric, they can do that.

its actually just not true, i have only not gotten 200 points one time and that was the 1st time i went in and had no idea what i was doing as far as points and spent 40mins in the run......i did however do all the floors and fail to kill the last boss more than once under the old system depending on what boss i got and what powers i had which really sucked for the time spent

ok, i dont get this. got 4/5

didnt die, 100% every stage, didnt took epic trait, if possible didnt stack a trait, did all escort, did all objectives, didn use phantasma, made 400 phantasma out of the broker, lost 255 phantasma at the endboss cause a  phantasma add spawned but still had 800 phantasma left at the end, couldnt kill the add cause i got too much dmg and used ice block, my cheat death didnt procced once, and timewise i needed 30 minutes which i guess was ok.

what did i wrong? am i not allowed to use my timewarp or my burst cd or what? do i need more talents in that torghast cube? (just got 2 so far).

edit: ok, i just wanted to do a quick torghast run with my warrior twink and got 5/5, not a single floor 100%, still did all escorts and took some souls/objectives but not all, run took me 20 minutes, didnt take epic trait (just got offered 1), took op traits for execute always useable and doing 100% more dmg and stacked several bladestorm/recklessness duration traits still didnt die, used my phantasma and had 370 left. 206 points

probably shouldnt have read that guide and try to act like it suggested in the first place with my main.

Huh? When did I mention a timer?

Wait. You're denying that leaving pots unbroken and mobs unkilled affects your score? You realize this is written on the same article you're commenting on... right...?

How many points do you need?  Yes it lowers your score Shackelbolt......what dying does not do is "make or break your score"..... I have died and not had 100% completions plus over time on the same run and still scored over 200 points.

Nowhere does this guide say it is impossible to get 5 stars after dying. It's simply describing how dying relates to the scoring system.

I don't know why you think people don't believe you when you say you've gotten 5/5 before in Torghast.  We are happy for you! I'm sure most of us have, too! What is being discussed is whether the new Torghast system is an improvement over the old Torghast system. I cannot stress this point enough: The entire community could be getting 5/5 stars on every Torghast run on every alt on every wing and it still wouldn't demonstrate whether the changes were "good" changes to the Torghast system.

I'd be happy to have a discussion with you on whether being punished for leaving a pot unbroken is engaging gameplay. That's subjective! But if you're going to continue to deny that a mechanic of the scoring system is a mechanic of the scoring system, I'm not really sure what can be gained from that discussion.

Just wanted to add my experience here for others. I wanted to get the achievement "A Taste of Perfection" which is a Flawless Victory on any floor.  So I followed some of the guide's advice but also those of some of the commenters. I don't know (I don't think) how I achieved it would change at higher difficulties at all (not sure it would) but here's what I did:

  • Layer 3
  • I died once (fell off which was my own fault for not paying attention)
  • Out of five floors I only obtained 100% completion once. The rest were 99% and 98% complete
  • I took my time and backtracked when I needed to for completion, I didn't delay but I didn't rush
  • I broke every urn and rescued every soul
  • I did every side quest
  • I obtained as many purple anima powers as I wanted, the more the better if they were appropriate. I took what I wanted so that I was OP and then some.
  • I only had 398 Phantasma at the end boss but clearly that didn't matter (didn't need to have 500)
  • I never killed two elites in 90 seconds using Empowerment, I just used it when I had a bunch of mobs or when it was up at an end boss and I knew I could get it back for floor 5 final boss
  • Had empowerment the whole time for final boss

That was it and I scored a 201 which was good enough for Flawless. I feel like my score and how I got it was the bare minimum to get Flawless so...not dying and getting one or two more 100% completions would give you more than enough of a score and a pretty good one actually.

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
