Sanctum of Domination Mythic Race: A Painful Day 2

Recommended Posts

Day 2 is done and a whole lot happened, mostly the top two guilds suffering a lot of pain. While the scoreboard may still say 5/10, we saw a new hero in the ranks of raid bosses arise, one that held his ground above his measly No.6 station, even after numerous nerfs!

So, as you certainly already figured out, day 2 of the Mythic Race to World First was Painsmith day for the two top guilds, but first the EU teams had to get there, as this was their first day of the race! As you'd expect, all 5 EU firsts went to Echo, as they moved up pretty quickly, but it still took them 8 hours to tie it all up with Complexity-Limit. And while that's a whole lot faster than the US No.1's time, they did have the benefit of some Soulrender nerfs and knowing all the details from the day before.

Surprisingly, however, very few guilds actually caught up to 5/10, and it took almost the entire day to do so for those two that did. Pieces and Method got 4 bosses down relatively fast after Echo and stopped there, while BDGG and Instant Dollars joined the top two guilds at the 5 down count only about an hour before the end of the day!

And so the entire day was squarely about Painsmith Raznal, an honestly excellent and very difficult boss, with seemingly no bungs and some very tight tuning. As anyone who's done the boss on Heroic probably knows, it's was a LONG day. He did receive quite a few hotfixes during the day, but according to Limit's GM, they weren't actually that impactful and were in effect pretty much since the top guilds started progress on him. And progress they did, as the two giants went head-to head, Limit gaining the early advantage, being 40 pulls ahead, but Echo getting to lower percentages faster, ending their day at 38.5% (and 48 pulls). That % is actually a crucial number, as the 40% mark is the second intermission, which proved to be the benchmark to get to, the point where things got REALLY difficult.

After Echo went to sleep, Limit continued on for some 7.5 more hours, trying to push past their 39.6% best from before Echo left. It took a while but they managed to get some really good pulls, getting the boss down inch by inch (I don't know why I said that, I actually use centimeters, but it just sounds better). The smith of pain is really SO impressive we have to show off at least one more attempt than just the usual "this is the best try so far", so you can get an idea of just how crazy it is, so here's Limit's 33% try (starting off around the crucial 40% mark):

And here's the really impressive, best of the day, 19.84% pull:

The Painsmith is an incredibly impressive and difficult boss, and it's going to be hard for the following bosses to live up to this level of tuning, but if they do, we really might have an amazing raid on our hands. And if you're wondering what the GM of a guild that has spent 126 pulls and a full day on a measly 6th boss of a raid thinks:

Others are pretty hyped about the raid in general as well, as BDGG player Theun comments:

The Asian servers have also finally come up and there's plenty of action to be had there as well, as 4 guilds have gotten past the first three bosses: the recently merged Alpha/KeaHoarl out in front, newcomers (but filled with many of the best Chinese players) Aster in 2nd, followed by Jitianhong and Skyline.

While it may seem that it wasn't an eventful day, Pain.smith provided tons of moments and discussions on just what a Mythic raid should look like in the first week, when the very best WoW players are going at it full tilt. Is Painsmith too hard? Will the rest of the raid be able to live up to this difficulty? Should he be nerfed even though the guild that's spent the most time on him doesn't want him to be? My personal answer to all of that is no, no and god no. The fairly predictable nature of the past few raids, the only actual significant obstacles being the final two bosses, shouldn't always be upheld, and even if Smithy McPain is just a wall and an anomaly and the next three fall much faster, that's ok too! In the spirit of the Butcher from Highmaul, Il'gynoth from Ny'alotha, Fetid Devourer from Uldir, Zor'lok from Heart of Fear, Dark Animus from Throne of Thunder, Star Augur from Nighthold, and many other early(ish) wall bosses, let Painsmith extract some... pain from the top guilds!

As always, for up-to-date coverage head on over to Raider.IO, or one of the many guilds streaming events!

oh no the guilds cant down hard content on day 1.... don't worry we will nerf it for them

With a comment like that, I find it very hard to believe you even read the article.
This article is about the raiders finding the content hard but worthwhile.
Comparing its quality to Nighthold even.

i know the guilds are loving it but blizzard are still nerfing it gone are the days of bosses lasting weeks or months blizzard release a new raid and nerf it on day 1/2 even though guilds are enjoying a challenge my comment is not against the guild its against blizzard nerfing content because its hard... mythic content is supposed to be a struggle. its the content you should need bis gear to beat not blizzard making the boss weaker just so you can clear it

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
