CerebralMonkey 1 Report post Posted June 6, 2014 I used to play years ago and clicked all my abilities. I am desperately trying to undo that habit but I am confused how good pvp'ers are able to move around so well while hitting alt+5. I currently use my mouse to move forward but when kiting (moving backwards using s key) it seems next to impossible to use multiple key key bindings. I hope that makes sense to people. How is this done? When kiting I almost always have to revert to clicking.
LobbyBoy 37 Report post Posted June 6, 2014 I've found this videos several years ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZLPzCuejWQ Maybe it can help you in some way. Moving backwards with your mouse is quite simple if you have some extra buttons on it. Just assign your 's' key (- or whatever key you are using for moving backwards) to the extra button on your mouse. Done
Archimage 98 Report post Posted June 6, 2014 Most melee classes just have to hold in both mouse buttons to move forward, allowing your left hand to push buttons other than WASD. In my case, I have a Razer Naga, which allows me to have 12 keybinds on my mouse alone, allowing me to keybind Strafe keys on these buttons. If you are having trouble using the [@arena1-5] macros, you could simply change it to [@mouseover], and hold your mouse over the Arena frames or Unit frames to cast the spells. You could also move your Arena Frames a bit closer to the center of your screen so it can be a bit more noticeable or accessible. In any case, any new keybind will take some time to get used to.
Hybrys 199 Report post Posted June 6, 2014 Using the S key is actually the slowest form of movement (besides RP walking), and you should instead be flipping sideways, and using Q or E to strafe, at an 80 degree angle from your target, never directly backwards. You can maintain Line of Sight most of the time, and once you start getting good, you can do jump-spin casting for Instants, if your target is good at maintaining an opposite line to you. I had to log into the game to check out my behaviour when I'm strafing, and I have my hand positioned like this: Thumb @ Alt/Space Index @ E and covering 4/5 Middle @ 1/2/3 Ring @ Q and ~ (My voice chat Push to Talk) Pinky @ Tab and ~ backup. You can also jump, and maintain your original speed, and that can let you take your fingers away for about a second. So, holding E, jump, hit 5, back to holding E. Combined with that setup, I use some clever macroing (I'm a shaman, so Cap + Project, Bind + Project, Ghost Wolf/Tremor) to maximise my mouse button usage (all four auxillery buttons are triple function w/ modifiers) and minimize hand movement. Marco 51 Report post Posted June 7, 2014 I can really commend what Archimage and Hybrys said. If you want my perspective, check out the Keybindings section in our PvP interface guide. Most of the time you can switch between walking with WAD (or WQE) and holding the mouse to walk. This should give you ample opportunity to use your skills, even the ones that are hard to reach. And although this has been said probably a dozen times, I can never stress enough how important it is to stop walking backwards.
