Final 9.1 Sanctum of Domination DPS Log Rankings: Fury Rises, Windwalker and Balance Commentary

We've arrived at the very last 9.1 Sanctum of Domination DPS log rankings post, with patch 9.1.5 arriving tomorrow! As we take one last peek we've also asked some of our guide writers to take a look back at spec performance in 9.1 and a look ahead to what's coming as well.

Mythic DPS Rankings

We have one final surge from Fury here at the very end of 9.1 in the top percentiles, as it almost rises to the very top, grabbing No.2 instead in its 5 spot jump! Elemental is the biggest loser at the top this week, as it drops 2 into 5th, but on the up side Frost DK ties Fury's bug jump as it also rises 5, settling down in 8th, as the final 2 top 10 spots remain as yellow as last week.

While Fury also rises quite a bit in the all percentiles chart, it's not quite as dramatic as it's still down near the middle of the pack, even with the 4 spot jump into 10th. And while Arms is still a lot higher, it actually went down one this week into 3rd. In the top 10 we only have Affliction and Survival offering any movement, as they switch places, and the rest remains the same, as expected in the more stable rankings:

Class Guide Writer Commentary

Let's see what our class guide writers have to say about two of the the top specs, taking a look back at 9.1 and looking forward to the upcoming patch as well, starting with the No.1:

Windwalker Monk by Babylonius

Windwalker has done very well in Sanctum of Domination, similar to Castle Nathria. Another strong tier of AOE with exceptional AOE capabilities have helped to hide the fact that Windwalker's single target damage is exceedingly lackluster. Fights like Soulrender Dormazain, Fatescribe Roh-Kalo, and Kel'Thuzad highlighted Windwalker's top-of-the-charts power when it comes to burst AOE. Similarly, fights like Sylvanas Windrunner with the arrows and P2 adds, and Painsmith Raznal with the intermission adds also allowed Windwalkers to explode on the charts briefly throughout the fight, and with enough damage to still look nice on the charts at the end of the fights.

It's only on fights like Guardian that Windwalker's disappointing single-target damage is highlighted. Thankfully, those situations were much fewer in Sanctum of Domination than in other raids, allowing the spec to really show off. And so Windwalkers were able to provide and get by on their top AOE damage, allowing others to focus on the single target or utility requirements of fights.

Looking into 9.1.5, Windwalkers should maintain their control over the top of the AOE charts, even with many classes getting "uncapped" AOE. However, it wouldn't be surprising if Windwalker AOE gets tuned down somewhere down the line, either through nerfs to Calculated Strikes Calculated Strikes , Spinning Crane Kick Spinning Crane Kick, and/or Dance of Chi-Ji Dance of Chi-Ji. Thankfully, Windwalkers have a TON of AOE damage to give up and still be toward the top of the charts. Hopefully, any tuning of our AOE damage is coupled with increasing our single target damage, where Windwalkers struggle. As it stands, if nothing else changes, Windwalkers will enjoy another long patch of strong performance in AOE raid bosses and Mythic+.

Balance Druid by Bora

Balance Druid was one of the best, if not the best caster DPS in Sanctum of Domination. Venthyr Druids in particular saw massive success in the ranking department placing among the top DPS classes in the raid. The new legendary, Sinful Hysteria Sinful Hysteria, starts a slow burning damage window which culminates into the strongest burst in the game. This kind of DPS is great in a raid riddled with priority targets such as Kel'Thuzad's Phylactery, Mawsworn Overlords, and other dangerous add types.

While cooldowns played a decisive role in Balance Druid's power, Starfall Starfall and the new Stellar Drift Stellar Drift were two extraordinary abilities this raid. The change to Stellar Drift made Starfall's damage larger but added a cooldown to it which reduced mobility. The fights normally did not have sustained multi-target but more sporadic spawning add waves. All of these factors played a large role in the success the class had this raid tier, and with no changes slated for 9.1.5, they should remain strong. In Patch 9.2, it would not be unreasonable to speculate there may be some tuning for the Venthyr Covenant to come.

Heroic DPS Rankings

Heroic is seeing more changes for the second week in a row, after a long time nothing happening, and it's Balance continuing to crash the party. It's risen up into 2nd place, bursting the Rogues' bubble and separating them after what is probably months of the yellow 1-2. Shadow also takes advantage of this chaos and grabs itself the 4th spot, rising a pretty huge 3 spots in this normally very stable bracket.

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
