ffxiv Revival, FFXIV's Blossoming PvP Community

Have you ever felt discouraged from trying PvP in FFXIV due to lack of experience? Do you want to make new friends while participating in organized PvP events? Meet Revival, a PvP-based FFXIV community that hosts a multitude of events for all experience levels.

While Revival started as a Discord server focused on keeping the Rival Wings game mode alive, it has blossomed into one of the largest PvP communities known to FFXIV. Events hosted by Revival include Rival Wings nights, Frontline queue syncs, Dueling tournaments, Feast tournaments, and PvP-themed glamour contests.

We had a chance to chat with a few of Revival’s staff members to learn more about this growing community and how new players can get involved.

We first spoke to Eternal, one of Revival’s founding staff members. According to Eternal, the goal of the Revival community is to provide a safe place for players to make friends and improve in PvP together. In addition to hosting events, the server is full of PvP guides created by mentors within the community.

Running the server has been nothing short of impactful for Eternal, who enjoys helping new faces get familiar with PvP in Eorzea.

Every time someone says something like “I used to be scared to PvP, but Revival showed me how much fun it could be,” I feel so much pride and joy. It lets me know that all the work put into our community is impactful.

Brian Ricardo is another key staff member in the Revival community. As a PvP mentor and content creator, he appreciates any opportunity to help others have fun while improving their PvP skills.

According to Brian, any FFXIV player searching for a new community is welcome to join Revival.

We are a PvP community, but PvP is for everyone! Many players in FFXIV have not played PvP before because of fears of losing or hearing from others that it’s bad. We do our best to squash this toxic idea.

As a Discord server, we get thanked for many things. We have shown people that this content is fun, and some people have developed a newfound love for FFXIV. We often hear stories of people finding their best friends through our community. This type of impact can be life-changing for players. If people are having these awesome experiences through our community, we are very happy.

Last but not least, we spoke to Cherry, leader of the Oasis PvP community in WoW and Primal data center staff member for Revival. When asked about the differences between PvP in WoW and FFXIV, Cherry noted a major difference in the games’ entry requirements and in-game chat features.

One of the biggest differences is the entry requirements. In WoW, to participate in endgame and/or ranked PvP, players much reach max level before grinding out content for several hours to be on somewhat of an “equal” playing field with others. This is because players need to grind out the resources for gear, gain rating to upgrade this gear, and farm levels to strengthen their borrowed power abilities.

In FFXIV, all players need to do is get to level 30 on any job, complete the quests to unlock specific game modes, and start queueing up. Players do not need to reach max level to participate in competitive PvP. In my opinion, FFXIV PvP is a lot more accessible to the casual player base because of the minimal requirements needed to begin.

Cherry described Oasis as a welcoming community that serves as an outlet for WoW players to ask questions, meet new friends, and promote learning.

Revival is very similar in this aspect. Our guides are put together by members of the community, our events are hosted by members of the community, and our efforts are made to encourage more players to PvP. Eternal reached out to me and encouraged me to apply because of my experience. I really enjoy being a part of both communities because they both put in a lot of work to make their respective game a better place for everyone.
