ffxiv The Icy Veins Summoner Guide for FFXIV is Live

We are proud to announce the release of our 5.5 Summoner job guide, co-written by Elevation and Spence Stragos, two longtime contributors to Summoner theorycrafting in the FFXIV community.

Our Summoner guide is currently equipped to teach all of the knowledge needed to play 5.5 Summoner, including rotation advice, frequently asked questions, explanations of class spells, and optimal melds and gear. Additionally, the guide contains basic tips on how to improve, such as the Always-Be-Casting rule and how to easily track DoT durations.

Elevation is a world progression raider with team Tempest from the Radiance FC on Gilgamesh. He is known for being a high-caliber Summoner player with impressive speedkill times and top 5 world race placements. Additionally, he is a member of AkhMorning's Summoner team.

Spence Stragos is a member of AkhMorning's Summoner contributors and a Summoner mentor for the Balance. He has been playing FFXIV since 3.0 and enjoys raiding at a high level, optimizing fights, and teaching other players valuable skills to accomplish their in-game goals.

Come Endwalker, Elevation and Spence will update the guide for 6.0 Summoner, which is undergoing a major job overhaul!

Given this major overhaul, some of you may feel that Summoner was an odd choice to post as our first job guide, but Valks, the section manager for FFXIV on Icy Veins, had this message for our users:

Now, obviously some of you will be looking at the Summoner guide and wondering why we have bothered putting out a 5.5 guide vs. simply waiting for a 6.0 guide. FFXIV jobs aren't the same as WoW classes and, despite the experience we have gained through working with our WoW contributors to put our current guides up, there were a fair few hurdles that had to be passed before Endwalker's release, to ensure that we are putting up the best content we possibly can. Rotations in FFXIV contain a lot of complexity that didn't exist in the same form as WoW's rotations, as can be seen on the format of the rotation page for Summoner. The rotation page we have for Summoner is much longer than those you have possibly seen on our WoW pages and this is due to Summoner's different phases and the need to format it very differently. We are going to be releasing a different format for the page in the future, but in the meantime, depending on the release schedule of this new format and the work required on our end, we wanted to make sure that our users were happy with the presentation, in the event that our new format isn't ready for Endwalker. The same goes for the best-in-slot list on the gear page, where we have taken the table format we used on WoW - there is another format coming, but due to the work and time required to make it happen, there is always the possibility the new format won't be ready for Endwalker. In the coming days, we will likely be releasing other job guides for 5.5, with the intention of testing the format for different roles and ensuring that we have enough information and feedback on the guides to properly prepare for Endwalker. We will not have every job guide for 5.5 - many of the team are currently already working on 6.0 versions of their guides behind the scenes and we are not going to be posting every job guide for 5.5, especially with Endwalker so close. We simply wanted to make sure that we had at least some representation of each role to ensure that we can get a proper understanding of any potential issues from our readers, so that we can plan and fix them properly, to make sure that our users will have the best possible reading experience once Endwalker has released. With all of that being said, I hope that those of you that are playing Summoner in the closing weeks of Shadowbringers do enjoy the guide - if you have any feedback, please make sure to let us know on the comment thread or via our Discord, and I can't wait for you all to see the new formats we are working on in the (hopefully!) near future.
