lawrence131 0 Report post Posted June 23, 2014 does the Hot just constantly overwrite itself since the uptime is basically 100%? there's no special ways of managing this since we basically have to constantly frenzy/savage defense as we build rage so it doesn't change our playstyle in any way? Paloro 39 Report post Posted June 23, 2014 I believe the HoT stacks, but yes, the uptime is basically 100% and you shouldn't have to change your playstyle to manage it.
Tarazet 144 Report post Posted June 24, 2014 That's correct. You generate so much Rage with the current level of stats that as long as you're doing the standard Guardian thing of keeping SD up, using FR as needed and otherwise spending it on offense.. you will always have your HoT up. Of course it does further punish you during periods that you can't attack anything, but it's not like the HoT is amazing.
lawrence131 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2014 (edited) wow i didn't realize the HoT stacks with itself, since I'm missing 1 piece until I can test it. If it stacks with itself, is it true then that it is always better to do 2X 30 rage heals vs 1 big 60 rage heal since the HoT is based on AP and not rage? Or in general just a lot more small FR's since it's off GCD? of course not prioritizing FR just for a small HoT over SD, but if we're going to FR anyways because the situation calls for it, would you advise always just doing it twice over 1.5 secs with half rage each time? this has probably already been done and tested, but i can't wait to get my 4th piece to try out even an exclusive FR rotation during periods of heavy dmg tanking. i wonder if there is a vengeance threshold that's high enough that you keep 5 stacks of this HoT (5X 1.5 sec FR CD but 0 GCD over 8 sec HoT) with 100K-200K vengeance that it outperforms SD since both the HoT and the 5X FR's to stack it both scale with vengeance.. i'm pretty noob to PVE, but do you guys think for fights where there is only 1 boss attacking you with physical hits while also taking magic damage (Thok during most of the fight, Garrosh during periods without adds) that a pure spam FR rotation might actually be better? since it's off the GCD, i'll try the extreme of macroing it with all my basic attacks to log the max heal potential. Probably end up wiping my PUG raid and getting yelled at, but will be a fun experiment Thx for the input. Edited June 26, 2014 by lawrence131
Tarazet 144 Report post Posted June 29, 2014 The boss hits are always the most important damage coming in, and the incidental magic damage is supposed to be handled by raid healing.. not really by any special resources from the tanks, other than using a defensive cooldown if you are low on health already. The only exception is a fight which is 100% magic damage, like Lei Shi.. on that one, I used nothing but FR for the entire fight, and when she bubbled, I needed a lot of extra healing because I couldn't generate Rage.
