Endwalker Spoilers and Icy Veins News Post-Launch

Recommended Posts

New-Project-4.jpg

The wait for Endwalker is nearly over and, with that, comes the question on many players' minds - how can I avoid spoilers until I have finished the MSQ? We wanted to give you all a warning prior to the release of the expansion, as well as the system we are planning to use to ensure that you don't get spoiled while browsing Icy Veins after the release!

It's always a terrible feeling when you're coming up to the absolute pinnacle of the MSQ, but you already know it's the climax because of the spoilers you saw the day before. We defintely don't want to be the source of those spoilers and so we've tried to come up with a system to ensure that those of you that don't want to be spoiled before clearing the MSQ will be able to browse the website, free of any fear that you will accidentally stumble upon a story-destroying spoiler.

Currently, we are working to put these plans in place:

  1. For news articles that contain spoilers, we will:
    1. Mark these posts with [Spoilers] in the title and news description.
    2. Use a custom image (the one used for thie post) that clearly shows these posts contain spoilers - this is likely going to mean that many of our posts have the same news image for a while, which I do apologise for, as it's not exactly the most visually apealling solution, but we wanted to make sure that you all know exactly what to look for to find out if there are spoilers or not.
  2. For the tweets we put out for each news article, we will use the same "spoilers ahead" image, as well as note in the tweet that there are spoilers in the article.
  3. We will make sure that none of the main navigation bar headers contain any spoilery names, but keep in mind that the submenus may contain light spoilers based on the names of certain things in-game (for example, a boss name in a raid).
  4. When we release a new YouTube video on the channel, if there are story spoilers involved, we will make sure to note that in the description, as well as say it at the start of the video, but there is potential that the title will contain zone or dungeon names, for example.

With those plans in place, I think it is also worth defining exactly what we consider to be a spoiler, in the case of these measures. If something has been officially revealed by Square Enix in their advertising and marketing of the game, we will not class it as an Endwalker spoiler. We are purely trying to ensure that we do not ruin the experience of everyone's first playthrough of the Endwalker MSQ, but at the same time, we feel that it is acceptable to openly discuss and cover things that have been publicly covered by Square Enix's team in promotional and marketing releases.

Now, with that said, this is our first time working on a game that is so heavily guarded in its story and the number of people aiming to avoid spoilers - we are going to do our absolute best to ensure that we err on the side of caution and don't slip up, but we can't, for example, moderate replies on tweets that we make. While I truly appreciate all of the support we have received on the site and on social media, there is always a chance that a spoiler may slip through via a comment or reply somewhere, where we don't catch it fast enough or we can't remove it. If that is the case, I apologise if it negatively affects your gameplay experience, and can only promise that we'll do our best to try and avoid it happening as much as possible.

I'd also like to apologise in advance if some of our tweets and post titles come off as "clickbaity" - if we're actively trying to avoid spoiling the game for a portion of the users, but still trying to catch the attention of those of you that either don't mind or have cleared MSQ, there's always the chance the titles/tweets may come across that way, since we can't actively reveal the core information within the titles/tweets.

To all of you Scions, I wish you the absolute best in Endwalker, I hope you all enjoy the game a great deal, stay safe from spoilers, and I hope to see you all around on the website or social media at some point!

I will be avoiding all social media for at least a week. I am also turning chat to "battle" so I won't get spoilers in chat. I am putting myself on /busy so nobody can whisper and spoil for me.

Have fun!

Final Fantasy XIV is experiencing a large player drop since 7.0 and 7.1, soon hitting under 1 million active players!
Dawntrail has received mixed reviews, and the game has not been doing so good since the release of patch 7.0. Despite new content such as the World of Darkness Chaotic Raid or the latest Alliance Raid, which both received good feedback, it seems that the majority of players have nothing to do in the game right now.
The latest data report published on December 29, 2024, by Lucky Bancho, provides an analysis of player activity in Final Fantasy XIV following the release of Patch 7.1. The report indicates a decline in active characters:
The number of active players decreased by 120,000, going from 1.15 million to approximately 1.03 million New character creation has slowed, with about 47,000 new characters, down from 54,000 in the previous period The number of players still active since the previous update is around 830,000, a decrease of 170,000 The number of returning players who were previously inactive but have now become active is approximately 120,000, an increase of 20,000 The number of active players right now is close to falling below 1 Million. This means it will soon be lower than before Shadowbringer's peak number of players.
The report suggests that the overall decline in active characters may be attributed to various factors, including player engagement with new content, community dynamics, and broader gaming trends. It emphasizes the importance of entertaining story and content to attract and retain players.
      The main issues being:
Dawntrail's story did not attract the majority of players. Many felt bored and stopped playing right after they were done with MSQ The lack of content. While Savage, Chaotic, and Ultimate came out after 7.1, it is not content you will eternally grind once you completed it a couple of times Party Finder. With the possibility to jump servers, and being forced to use party finder for raiding, a lot of players end up in empty servers with no possibility to jump to "raiding servers" because they end up already full. Players end up giving up and stop playing until the next patch releases Lack of casual content: nothing has been released that will allow you to grind casually every day for rewards, mounts, glam, or anything else. Even events only take a few minutes to complete, there is nothing that keeps players entertained right now A lot of other reasons can be found for the massive drop in players right now. While it is always expected in MMO games, it is still concerning considered previews expansions never saw such a decrease in active players in FFXIV. We can only hope that Square Enix will take it into account to change things for the future!
For a the complete analysis, you can refer to the original report by Lucky Bancho.
