Our Mythic+ guru Petko has embarked on a journey to earn the Tormented Hero: Shadowlands Season 2 Tormented Hero: Shadowlands Season 2 achievement on a fresh character before the end of Season 2! Here's week 2 of the challenge!

The Great Challenge, from Zero to Hero

Hey guys, Petko here! I have decided to challenge myself before the end of the current season, and earn the Tormented Hero: Shadowlands Season 2 Tormented Hero: Shadowlands Season 2 achievement on one of my fresh characters, and since I have done it multiple times in the past, I will guide you through every step of my journey.

Rules of the challenge

If you are interested to learn more about the rules and objectives of the challenge, you will find them in our first episode here.

Chapter 1, Episode 2

In this episode we are going to talk about key elements once we reach a +15 keystone level, what the benefits are, what to look out for, how to properly form your group, lastly, how to NEVER ( or seldom) deplete keys So what are the benefits?

  • The main benefit of getting all +15s in time is you will get enough Mythic+ Rating to earn Shadowlands Keystone Master: Season Two Shadowlands Keystone Master: Season Two. Once I earned it, I was able to slowly upgrade all of my existing Mythic+ gear to a maximum Item Level of 246, which spiked my damage by a huge margin.
  • Grinding from lower keys to +15 made me a better player and I grew more familiar with my specialization, which resulted in more damage output compared to the rest of the party randomly found in LFG.
  • One more perk aside from the title is the Soultwisted Deathwalker Soultwisted Deathwalker mount, which looks quite good, and is a way to differentiate yourself from the rest!

What to Look Out for in Mythic +15 Keystone Level Runs

First and foremost, you need to accept that there will be leavers. People leaving under the first 5 minutes of the dungeon, long queue times, not enough players online at specific times of the day, I've seen it all!

What should you do when you're experiencing any of that? Simply, move on and queue up for the next dungeon, learn from your past mistakes, and brush off any toxicity.

I fleshed out a system that worked quite well for me and hope it will work for you too!

  • Build your key and invite people to the group that play a relatively easy and popular class to master. Sure, there are many great Shadow Priests in Mythic+, but the likelihood of that specialization performing as good as a meta specialization, like Windwalker Monk, is extremely low. I'm not telling you to decline everybody and only invite meta classes to your party. All I'm saying is that from my personal experience, even a bad "meta class" player will outperform a good/mediocre player in his comfortable pick most of the time.
    • In our specific scenario, a bad Windwalker Monk playing a meta class will always be better than a bad Shadow Priest.
  • On the lower end of keys, look for two things. Strong single-target classes (preferably only 1 that can deal good single-target damage) and two that can do heavy AoE. As an Elemental Shaman, I would look for a DPS that does better single-target damage than me and a similar DPS that does good AoE, just like me.
  • If you are not aware exactly which classes are considered meta and why I strongly recommend reading our Mythic DPS Tier List, which is specifically tailored for any player/role/specialization.
  • Finally, right when you enter the dungeon, make sure to greet everyone and stay positive. Establishing a good first impression and active communication is pivotal. I also ask what other keys people have, in case I need any of theirs, I will ask at the end of the key if they are willing to run it. If you complete the key and someone performed poorly, you can always replace them if needed, just remember, everyone makes mistakes, and being toxic instead of providing players with constructive criticism is all but helpful.

What to Expect Upon Entering the 2,000 Rating Bracket

You need to accept that there will still be some people that don't use the Mythic Dungeon Tools addon, which is extremely useful at designing your routes and executing them before starting the key.

There are a lot of things that can go wrong and my best piece of advice here for you and your group is to never overcomplicate routes. Avoid any fancy skipping routes that you see higher-rated players do, especially if you are pugging your key. People often do not have Potion of the Hidden Spirit Potion of the Hidden Spirit (Invisibility Potion).

Instead, focus on something more simple and easier to execute, those keys are only an item level check and if you have the required item level, you'll pass and complete the dungeon in time. Routes do play an important role once you start climbing a lot higher and I will advise you, if you do not know how to build them, you should check out our Mythic Dungeon MDT Routes that we update every week.

Here are also a few things to never expect in a +15 key:

  • Do not expect people to have the MDT addon installed and talk about pathing before the run.
  • Do not expect people to have Potion of the Hidden Spirit Potion of the Hidden Spirit available for any fancy skips. Most of the time, those people are used to killing everything along the way. The simpler the route, the better the outcome.
  • Do not rely on people knowing the important casts in Mythic+, hold your interrupt or disturb effect and do it yourself. Most of the time, people do not utilize most of their specialization's abilities to their full potential, let alone an interrupt.
  • At last, some people do not speak English, so if that's the case in your group, players likely won't understand any strategies you have built for your key.

Week #2 Results

It took me exactly 10 days to reach Shadowlands Keystone Master: Season Two Shadowlands Keystone Master: Season Two solo, with all of the runs being documented on my Twitch channel. I must say, the road to that achievement was way harder than I thought. Oftentimes, there were people just leaving randomly after 1 wipe, and that ultimately slowed down my achievement runs. Things became a lot smoother once I got a +15ish keystone level. The knowledge of each Mythic+ dungeon, however, definitely gave me an edge, hence why it took me so little time to complete it. I'm aiming to break into the +20 keystone level bracket next!

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
