Firim's Journal Reveals the Jailer's Plan in Eternity's End

Through Firim's journal in Patch 9.2, we learn more about the Jailer's ultimate plan and the cosmic forces. This post contains major story spoilers.

Firim is an Oracle who maintains a journal in Patch 9.2 that reveals more information about the First Ones, the six cosmic forces, and the Jailer's ultimate plan.

Blizzard has reworked the Zereth Mortis Pathfinder, and one of the new requirements requires you to read Firim's Journal (Tales of the Exile Tales of the Exile). Below, we highlight Parts 6 & 7, as they reveal more about the cosmic forces, the First Ones' grand design, and the Jailer's ultimate plan.

Firim in Exile, Part 6 Firim in Exile, Part 6

The sixth part talks about the six cosmic forces.

The six forces that pointed toward a seventh, and yet denied it. For a long while, I considered this seeming contradiction no more than another variable. An unknown waiting to be solved.

But the song of the oracle continued to reverberate in my consciousness. And as allowed my focus to soften, my grip upon the tangible to loosen, the geometry took shape in my mind.

It was both six AND seven. The six were one, and the seventh the other.

Did they desire union? The song seemed to say otherwise. Both were, yet only one could be.

The melody shifted. I shuddered at the shape it took.

This was not a variable to be solved. It was a solution awaiting its opportunity.

The song must not be allowed to end.

Do the First Ones still sing it? Truly, I do not know. But if they do not...

If they do not...

Who will?

Long have aI scoffed at what I learned of titans, or the void lords, or demons of the Nether. I held Death's pantheon in higher regard, but now I know that they are just as limited. Truth lies not in one direction or another, but in their intersection.

The First Ones had parceled out their gifts, but gave no child all of them. No wonder these offspring bickered with such incessant jealousy. Their very nature was one of denial.

Firim in Exile, Part 7 Firim in Exile, Part 7

The last part reveal's the Jailer's endgame and Firim's fears about the grand design even after the Jailer's defeat.

Though the Jailer has been defeated and the Shadowlands made whole again, I find myself unable to celebrate these victories.

For I have studied the inner workings of the Sepulcher. Seen the powers with which the Jailer sought to remake reality. And these observations fill me with a fear that shakes the very core of my being.

It is clear to me now that there must be a Zereth for each force of the cosmos, and within them, an inner sanctum akin to the Sepulcher.

And if that is true, then these sanctums must be connected on some fundamental level; a connection that the Jailer sought to exploit.

What he began in the Sepulcher was meant to cascade outward from one Zereth to the next, until all were dominated by his power. The heart of the Shadowlands acting as a doorway to the heart of each cosmic force in turn, one after another bound to his will.

But if his scheme was thwarted, then why is my mind so ill at lease?

Because I have seen how fragile the pattern is. How delicate the scales that keep the six forces in balance.

And if the Jailer, in his act of malevolence, left behind but the most imperceptible of cracks in that pattern, then I fear what is tiny now will only grow, until the balance itself is prone to be shattered by another force applying relentless pressure.

I pray that the First Ones anticipated such an eventuality. That they would leave measures in place to preserve their grand design.

Unless...

Unless their design was never meant to endure.

And that... that is the possibility that haunts me.

Meanwhile, somewhere beyond the edges of reality..

Once more, the whole "there was only one Burning Legion for all realities" bites them in the a-s-s. If there are different Zereths (?), are they for all realities or just one?

That's some of the first bits of writing in Shadowlands that've actually hooked me.

So Azshara is after some version of the Sepulcher in one of the Zereth's (I'd expect Order or Life).

You mean Draenor?

It is not a "reality" per se, it's a branching timeline (and as Nozdormu pointed out - there is only one true timeline, at least that's what the Titans claimed).

That said, time seems to be on the weaker side of factors in WoW cosmology, and if one of the six forces exists in all possible timelines at once, why the workshop of the First Ones cannot simply exist outside of time altogether?

I'm not sure how she'd even know those exist, honestly.

Yeah, she served N'zoth for a long time and may have aquired plenty of knowledge, but the existence of "Sepulchers" and their function seems to be a closely guarded secret of the upper echelons of the corresponding forces.

And the dreaded Old Gods are considered "parasites" next to the Void Lords, so N'zoth would also hardly know about them.

It wasn't consistent so far. Kairoz used Vision of Time to search for that particular Draenor, as it existed before and there were some differences before Garrosh even arrived (him not being born and Rulkan surviving for example). Perhaps each timeline has it's true version, than can be altered or destroyed, otherwise us fighting Infinite Dragonflight would have been pointless. I think Illidan novel mentioned different universes at one point, so this whole thing with Legion is simply a mess (that could have been a one good change, if they went back on it, and it turned out there were other versions of Burning Legion as well) when they are introducing more lore to Shadowlands. Not sure where First Ones fit or if they are still alive.

Azshara has been studying arcane magic for thousands of years, being able to divine the existence of Zereth Ordos or whatever it will be called isn't crazy. And "true throne of power" sounds like exactly the place Zovaal was looking for.

Plus Azshara is one of the few good villains left in this franchise so let's make her a final boss as she deserves.

I doubt something this integral to the clockwork of reality can be "divined" unless one knows exactly what they are looking for.

I do not diminish Azshara's talents, but there is also Malfurion who channeled the power of the world itself on more than one occasion, and he also is seemingly oblivious to the existense of.... Zereth Vita, I guess, despite ages spent in the Emerald Dream. If there is a mortal who can come closest to try and figure it out, I'd bet on him.

That said... Unless someone dumb just tells Azshara, now that we know of Zereths' existence. And if by chance Ve'nari never gets to Zereth Mortis in 9.2, she might as well sell the intel to someone powerful who'd help her reach one of Zereths.

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
