Community Reactions, Memes and Consequences of the Boosting Community Ban

Recommended Posts

With two large bombshells dropped by Blizzard yesterday, the community has been trying to process everything that's been announced, and some are sharing their thoughts through comments, some through memes, and some are just noticing the differences in the game after the announcements.

We have a few instances of before and after trade chats on various servers, as the long-term effects of this decision aren't quite clear yet, but the immediate results are very evident:

And a much more zen demonstration:

Some herald the return of the original trade chat, with all its... glory?

However, not all is well in trade chat:

Not quite convinced by the results so far and the long-term efficacy of this new ruling, some players are already fearing the workarounds:

But it's not all positive, as there's a lot of players actually upset at the gold they'll be losing and seemingly confused at how to make gold in the game if it isn't by boosting:

And then there's the more... creative presentations of what's happened:

So, memes aside, the general response to the ban has been mostly positive, with a little bit of doubt that this will solve the problem long-term as crafty boosters might find a way around it, and then there's the not-insignificant boosting community that really isn't a fan of the decision and is wondering about its fairness (in particular related to the Race to World First guilds and their sales activities) and how they'll move on now.

This is one of the bigger moves Blizzard has made in the community part of WoW and it remains to be seen how much of an impact it will have, but boosting is and has always been a very controversial and touchy subject for many players.

Where do you come out on the issue? Was this a good move? Was it fair? And was it enough?

Honestly never seen the issue with boosting myself, been on both sides of it and it's got it's ups and downs.

The cancer of it all was the spam, it was incessant, unwanted and unrelenting. If they weren't so aggressive about it, taking up ever damn channel they could and abusing systems in place, people probably wouldn't have cared.

There was a vocal middle ground of "oh you didn't EARN those pixels so you don't deserve them", but the ones at the top didn't care and happily boosted people, and the buyers obv didn't care and did it anyway.

Now if only we could take this kind of anger and backlash and channel it into some real world bullshittery eh 😄

I actually quit wow because getting in groups was horrible. People actually said: "go buy boosts for a few times and then come back"

Boosting was getting more and more manditory in the leveling/gearing cycle.

That might be something childish and dumb that people do (and I've never cared for), but at least it will be real people and not just endless bots spamming runs.

There are some boosting communities running under the table still. Saw quite a few yesterday doing what appeared to be accepting gold from a guild for advertising on toon A then trading with a houkan bank alt B then that B char would log off after running to the bank to make a deposit.

I reported it.

I don't have any idea how they're gonna sniff things like this out but it's nice they're trying to do something about it.

What they should've done is actually moderate the game for the last 15 years so it never got to this point.

I couldn't care less about boosting per se. Buyer and sellers choice. I'm delighted it will be gone because of the constant spam. Trade chat was often impossible to read, in particular with one guild on the server I'm on spamming the same boosts one after another via many different toons. Good riddance.

A shame for the guilds who were sensible about it though.

At least it's now harder for those people to advertise. Besides, they might have enough data to detect some of these operations. For example, if there are large sums of gold being moved between characters on multiple servers with same account, while doing carry runs, it might be actually pretty easy to find these guys. This stands out from the activities of average player. It remains to be seen how active are they going to be about banning the remaining organizations, after all they do make some profit for the company too by buying tokens.

Greatest news EVER !

It will do only GOOD to the game and players.

It was a real cancer a ruined the game an the game experience of players. And I'm not talking of spam advertising obviously (I saw that in the topic my god *facepalm*). If you don't know what harm it does to the game, ask someone who has time to answer you or I will when I'll be back home.

The only defenders are the ones using this shµt.

Please. There are crapton of ways you can identify boosters with Blizzard-level access to account informartion. If they wanted to shut down boosting services - they could have done so at any time in a decade.

Nothing happened then, nothing will happen now, it's just the post appeasing guys like the one right under you, who think it'll not only achieve something, but it will be "GOOD", completely disregarding all the upsides the boosting brings to the table.

If there is one positive is that some of them will disband, others will stay more "hidden". Less spam is better, but yeah, I do have my doubts as well if they are going to go that far to shut down every service. As I've mentioned before, there is too much money to lose if token sales go down, and we know these "services" drive their sales.

Boosting is just a symptom of this latest generations whole attitude towards gaming.  They dont give a *filtered* about enjoying the gameplay or evern earning anything.  They just want to be the bestest Leroy they can be as fast as possible.  Just like the dipshits who buy aimbots in COD.   Boosters and anyone who enabled the practice are just pathetic.  This generation doesnt want to work for *filtered*. They want everything and they want it now and they will pay anything for it.  You see them complaining that cant save for houses and *filtered* but theyll pay 10 bucks for starbucks everyday and pay some poor south korean sitting in a basement RL money to level their toons.  Our future is bleak if these are the people who will be at the helm.   I can see it now theyll have Comacho in office faster than you can say lootbot.

What will still be allowed is high-end guilds, on their own server, advertising on a character that actually runs in the raid. So it is not going away completely. Personally I'm not that bothered by it (MoP was the last time I ran alts through on a boost, and then ended up helping the boost team when they were short a healer until they server transferred).

In my view, small servers will no longer have (legitimate) access to boosting - meaning anyone who wants to take a boost has to server transfer, further draining higher-end away from these servers. Medium pop servers may see Raiders creating an alt team, if the demand (and gold) is there; co-incidentally providing them with a way to get extra BoEs for the World First Race.

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
