Anduin Wrynn Sepulcher of the First Ones Raid Defeat Cinematic

Recommended Posts

The currently final boss of the Sepulcher of the First ones, as we wait for next week's final three to unlock, is falling soon so we get to see the brand new cinematic! Anduin has been released from the Jailer's domination magic and the way to the final bosses of the Sepuclher is opened (or rather will be next week, it takes a while to learn all the intricacies of domination and how to avoid it).

Let's take a look at the cinematic Blizzard just released:

No sarcasm here. Blizzard... thank you.

One good thing is knowing when to end a character's story, and I remember them promising Arthas' story was over and he is not coming back, all the way back in Cata. And I felt disheartened by SL, when signs of his reappearance started to roam around, and even more so given current story developments.

But this, while not precisely not bringing him into the picture at all, this is good. His story is still over, he did nothing in SL, and now he is finally gone for good. RIP Arthas, it's been a bash.

I hope so, but I also thought Uther's, Vashj's, Draka's, Kael's, Alexandros' etc. stories were over yet here they are. They have many ways to bring characters back, either through afterlife or timetravel/alternate universe. So if it's a popular character, there is always a chance, although I prefer it otherwise. Jailer didn't even kill anyone important, they seem reluctant to kill their characters for good. There is always Illidan in the "freezer", in case they need someone to increase people's interest.

At least Arthas can now be deposited for some anima in covenant sanctum.

Does anyone know the music that starts when Varian appears?

it is a rearrangement of Anduin's theme from Legion

I have played WoW since vanilla launch and although not as heavily as I have gotten older, every expansion since. Most of us who started with vanilla are now in our mid 30s and 40s, and those early years of WoW have become a core part of our memories of youth. Because the character of Arthas is so closely linked to these memories, I have complex feelings about his permanent removal from the ongoing lore. In some ways, I might even say that I associate his annihilation, in part, with the death of my childhood. I know the WoW team was trying to provide a high impact narrative development amidst the ongoing business challenges they have inflicted upon themselves, but my initial reaction to this course of action is not positive. I feel less hopeful for the future narrative and less encouraged to return to the game than I ever have before.

I hope Blizzard can learn (or re-learn) that the most successful stories throughout human history are those built upon hope for tomorrow. The majority of humanity has the story of hopeless misery told to them on a daily basis through their experience; we don't need it fabricated again in games.

On one hand, I like how they utilized Saurfang and Varian in the cinematic. On the other, I'll just leave this here 😄

Didn't Blizzard at some point say at the start of the expansion that we weren't going to see Arthas right away because they wanted to do him right?      Fading away as a wisp of soul left in Anduin's sword seems...underwhelming.

I'm fine with killing Arthas, and I knew his character since RTS days. Death can be good for the story if it's written well. This one isn't, but now they are reluctant to kill any of their main characters, especially if they are on the good side. Like in both BfA and SL no one important (besides Saurfang, if we count him) has died. Character's death doesn't feel meaningful, if they can be brought back in some way. Sort of like Uther's death doesn't have much meaning now, since he can carry on as one of Kyrian.

Well, that sucked. Sylvanas gets to be redeemed and hang around like a terrible fart that won't go away, and Arthas whose story was consistent and motivation made sense just evaporates unseen. You'd think they'd at least show him and have him say something about at last being at peace instead of making everything about Sylvanas again.

Honestly because I've never seen or heard of Anduin's Mom, I instead just got the vibe of his interracial two Dads. Which is totally cool. But it was like each Dad placing a hand on his son. 🥰

The only thing that bugs me is that only Sylvanas had her arc with Arthas closed. Jaina is another character that has a close link with Arthas, they used to be lovers, they used to be engaged, they almost get married before Arthas calling it off to let Jaina focus on her study with Antinodas. Even in Wrath, she didn't recive a nice closure with Arthas, because discovering that your former lover, who turned evil, who didn't recognize you and tried to kill, still carries the medallion you gave him is definitly not closure.
And yet, Blizzard decided to focus the whole cinematic on Sylvanas.
I swear to god, Jaina is the most unlucky character in the world.

If only there was a logical and canon-established explanation why Tiffin didn't show up that is not rooted in SJW crap...

...right?

I never knew she existed until your post, so I was looking it up. It looks like she died from stonemason riots, and that the Wrynns visited her memorial around Cataclysm. I assume they didn't use her ghost then since many players wouldn't understand who it was (including horde players such as myself).

Simpler than that.

Varian's soul was obliterated at the Broken Shore, so that can hardly actually be him (unless one of the half-dozen fan theories will be canonized). These are images of people that Anduin drew inspiration from, especially since lasting peace on Azeroth is his life's work, and these two are powerful figures representing it.

He wouldn't see Queen Tiffin there for the sole reason of him not even remembering her, let alone leaving him with some powerful memory to cling onto.

This never stopped them before (undead Calia Menethil out of nowhere, only made sense to people who read the book), so it wouldn't surprise me if they included character known only to a few, briefly featured in a comic book. Another good example was Anveena in Sunwell. Regardless, both factions are experiencing mostly the same content. Their stories can't be treated separately anyway, considering how in both factions there are former members of the other.

Exactly, she died when he was little kid, so he wouldn't remember her anyway. I hope Varian stays dead and they won't find a way to bring him back (or some alternate counterpart). Death should have a meaning, although in case of several characters it already doesn't.

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
