Anduin Defeat Cutscene Memes

Recommended Posts

We've already taken a look at the very mixed/conflicted community reactions to the Anduin cutscene in the Sepulcher of the First Ones, and now it's time to take a look at some of the more creative responses. These aren't quite as mixed, and feature a whole lot of Sylvanas, but as usual are pretty damn funny!

One of the major complaints about the cinematic was its focus on Sylvanas, since she's had petty much all the screen time for a long time now, and these memes summarize that sentiment pretty well:

The other big complaint was the treatment and especially presentation of Arthas:

On the same topic, this one is particularly good, especially with the description:

He enjoys spinning around and harvesting resources for Night Elves.

And this last one on the Arthas subject will be particularly painful for WoW and Star Wars fans (although I'd personally replace Rise of Skywalker with the prequels, since you can't really double-ruin something):

Shadowlands is to Arthas’ legacy what Rise of Skywalkers was to Anakin’s.

While not necessarily cinematic-related, this one hits the nail solidly on the head:

This one may be a little off-topic, but it seems like a pretty solid template with a lot of uses for the future (and it may actually be even sadder than the real scence itself):

Wish they've done more, like making him appear during Zovaal encounter and self-detonate to burn some of the Jailer's mana...

Its terrible how they treated this whole story ark.

one of the very worst thing is how they lured the entire community into believing art has would reappeard, all from the first short pre exp trailers to the talks of him, uther thinking about him, them using his invincible theme for a brief moment in the 9.1 scene w anduin walking past uther… so much pointed to something bigger involving arthas… why is there no narriative?? There is so much story that could have been told? Jaina should have SO much to say! Thrall meeting his mother Draka?!? Why do they drop the ball time and time again? That’s all for now 👋

I'd replace Hots icon with Diablo 3. It's fun, better designed game and doing fine, can still find players so not dead, while D3 was a mess since release with wrong graphics style, real money auction house and broken itemisation. RoS did some good changes but then went into mess again with those massive damage on sets and forced playstyles.

Honestly, it would have been much more powerful if instead of Varian and Saurfang (whose presence makes VERY little sense lorewise), it was the last gasp of Arthas' soul that freed Anduin.    A small voiceover changing from Lich King voice to Prince Arthas voice in a small speech before breaking Anduin out at the cost of his soul.

You're advocating against your own point. First and foremost, those are not the souls of Varian and Varok, for Varian's was obliterated, and souls are clearly shown being far from indestructible.

The reason Arthas didn't show up to "help" in the scene is because he means nothing to Anduin. The best you have over the entire run of the character, is Garrosh mockingly stating their visual similarities and Anduin harshly replying he is not Arthas. Also, Arthas never even tried to break free, and even welcomed the vile power of Frostmourne for his misguided quest for vengeance. Anduin did, more than once, even if some of it can be attributed on how much more powerful with the Light Anduin is.

Also, same reason Queen Tiffin didn't show up - he doesn't even remember her (even if the 'woke herd' saw DIVERSITY there). Saurfang, on the other hand, does. Anduin is all about peace and Saurfang is kind of an orc he sees the 'honor' of the Horde resides in, among other qualities he represents. Orc and human coming together against the actual threat, his aspiration for peace, realized.

It's also very relevant as he's about to destroy both Horde and Alliance characters, the leadership basically, so it makes sense those two would pop up. Varian is a no brainer, ofc he'd be there, but Saurfang is a nice touch as it shows what a big influence his actions had on Anduin in such a short timespan.

And yes I'm baffled that a lot of players think those are actual souls and not just memories, but that's just another thing pointing to how badly this expansion's story was developed, where players can't even see the difference between metaphorical memories and literal actual souls.

Since all souls who arrive in The Shadowlands end up in The Maw, Saurfang's soul should be a Mawbeast of some kind anyway. (Unless there's a gap in my knowledge somewhere)

I wasnt expecting much, as the utter lore mess is already beyond any help. As any help includes understanding past errors, listening to helpful advice and actually change things to the better.

None of this was shown by Blizzard in any kind or form.

Gameplay has little to do with the lore, but Sylvanas does drop a trinket named "Old Warrior's Soul" that is a clear reference to Saurfang.

Not sure if lore-wise Sylvanas is this petty to keep his soul around to 'punish' him. In a manner that is very much like what Arthas did with her, now that I think about it.

Another possibility is that his soul was consumed in The Maw to fuel Jailer's army. Not all souls are kept there, if I remember correctly, many are simply turned into useful energy/anima, which would destroy a soul.

Im not that hung up about it

Ye its annoying only sylvanas got something to say, but we knew uther thoughts from his own cinematic, and jaina had lots to say back im wrath.

I'm glad arthas didn't get much attention in SL,  partly because i worry they wouldn't have written him well, but also because i think his warcraft-wotlk story was good and didn't need expanding. Sometimes what we have is enough.

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
