I hate that wanting people to not be dicks is considered weak...

I mean in reality this contract is not going to change anything, they will still enforce rules like before. If i sign a contract saying I need to "do my best" to help people in the world, be nice and answer questions. That would mean that if I don't do those things, actions will be taken against me. Makes no sense...

It takes far more courage to speak out against bullies than to join those doing the bullying. Bullying is easy:

Aren't the people with blood gushing out of their eyeballs over a little piece of text the real snowflakes? "Oh no, morals?! Help! I'm meeeeltiiiing!!!"

This isn't really too bad.

The fundamental problem though is that you're trusting these people to define the word "hate" accurately and in my opinion they've already shown that they can't.

I mean if you tell people you believe there's only 2 genders then they think that's hate. That's not hate bud that's just nature.

Ask them what a woman is and watch their meltdown

I think the point that person was making was a company that has apparently been letting its employees break everything in that contract for apparently decades is now lecturing players on how to behave, it's like OJ going around telling people murder is wrong.  Plus we all know if those employees behavior and the company's attempts at covering it up had never gone public, this "social contract" would never had been added

oh well since i grew up in that generation i survieved quite well but is it bad that i would want the gaming world to be a less harsh and toxic place? if thats weak in your book so be it then i am proudly weak.

on the other hand id like to ask how weak must someone be that needs to throw around slurs in a game be it racism homophobs or just general hate?

thats a thing i saked myself since i started with online games. sure you can be mad if you lose or your mate does something stupid but why do some people need to tell me how she did my mom or that i am a lesser being because im black or gay or a woman? i think only very very few would do that in the real world because that could end in legal trouble or even a fight. and often when you talk about this because it is kinda concerning you hear people saying things like you just did or people saying "well thats how it is in gaming" if thats just how it is we as a gaming community as a whole should start thinking about what we do and probably we should all sit in shame because we let people act like this far to often

Yeah, I too remember "good old days" and they weren't that good. People were unironically using "gay" and "autistic" as slurs. Certainly wouldn't want to go back to those days. I assume this social contract refers to those as "ability", like calling out that someone is playing badly is fine, but saying they are playing badly because they are autists is not.

well when i learned only one thing in my life then its that anytime someone is talking about "the good old times" nothing was good about it except for the people refering to it as "good" times

I find this whole thing totally stupid.

People should have the right to be dicks, assholes, pricks, morons and so on, this is what the IGNORE feature is for....use it, instead of crying to the GMs.

I don't think Blizzard will ever be able to clamp down on the toxic element to the wow community. It's been unpunished for too long at this point.

Internet and  the gaming community in general never have done much about toxicty. In WoW Vanilla, you had server rep. The toxic players usually found each other in a few "bad boy" guilds and were still able to dungeons and raids.

I find it sad that companies have to police the players, social media and forums. We the players should know better. It's just a small (vocal) minority who has to ruin it for others. Even on these forums you see enough wannabe bad boys. What's to win on these forums? Maybe we should adopt the Korean internet ID, which is connected to your social ID?

This is why I always disagree about all the "good old days" people. Even with separate servers, there were still toxic people. On my old server there were some players with very bad reputation, not even a "bad boy" guilds as you mentioned, but normal ones. Despite that they were accepted in raiding guilds, because "that guy might be a *filtered*, but at least he is a good player" was the usual explanation. Plus that server was among the smaller ones, so recruitment pool was limited, those guilds didn't have any reliable replacements for them. So yeah, nothing was being done about toxicity there.

No system is perfect, but at least something is being done about it. No matter the changes, some people will always find a way to work against rules, but it is worth trying, even if effects are rather small.

Cant wait to get banned for telling someone they suck at their class. You know this is going to get abused.

"Hey mister Restoration Druid, I respectfully disagree with you condesendingly talking sh*t to me and giving Cpt. Obvious-worthy 'advice', born out of your IO being a whooping 400 better than my 5th alt, but I politely suggest you learn that you have a Soothe button and you use it to not make the first boss in ToP run around chasing people and cleaving them in half before venturing into a +20, as well as press your Moonfire, Sunfire and Adaptive Swarm buttons to provide minimal damage impact instead of doing 500 DPS."

...think it'll do any good to those kind of morons?

Every single time I see the news of a text-change it goes something like this (and hereby resembles the "go get me a book from far away" quests where the book is a gearable on the endtable 22 feet away).

((( Oh the devs are finally reviewing one or another blob of text.  For some reason maybe involving corporate legal, or caring about the year 2022, some texts come sooner than others. )))
Someone's mad they are being told how to be nice on the internet.
Promptly shows off how to be rude on the internet.

"hmm, you might be angry about being told not to be a ((( hater? *filtered*? potty mouth? trash talker of people on the other end of a keyboard... who inconveniently lack the melee range to break your nose if you said it in person )))?   You hungry to defend how to ((( insert rude )))?   Ah, we see.  So moral.  Much citizen upstanding."

grouch responds: (((cuss))) you (((slur upon thy et cetera))) <-- some short, some long

^ ^ ^ et cetera.

This style of argument is not logical; it's reflex on the part of people who let anger fall out because it's easy.

Everyone who was already Good Sorts inside the game will look at the long wad of text and say yup yeah that's me uh huh and click on by.  BECAUSE THAT WAS EASY.

Everyone who's just barely evil enough to be mad they're being told to go h8 somewhere else, can keep their sub!  The rest of us have raids to roflstomp.

Scritch the kitty.  Kitty has claws, do not attempt to taunt happy fun kitty.

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
