Diablo 4 Will Be a Full Price Game With Expansions and Cosmetics Only

Recommended Posts

VXUw3HF.jpg

Blizzard have clarified that while Diablo 4 will have an in-game shop, it will only have cosmetic items available, responding to player concerns of potential Diablo Immortal-like pay to win options. They've also emphasized the story driven expansion model as the basis for the game.

Well, they also promised that D:I would be fair and you wouldn't be able to buy power. We shall see! It still doesn't exclude paid passes with cosmetics. Hopefully normal armor isn't going to suffer due to the store, by them making it look bland and uninteresting. I still don't like how many people find this stuff acceptable in a full price games, especially when this base price is now increased (some publishers are testing 70-80 dollar price tag, even worse for people in Europe like me).

As long as paid content is strictly cosmetic and not the cash grab that is Diablo 3 mobile game then we are all good. But time will tell.

remember when cosmetics were actually earned in-game instead of being put on a cash shop?

Oh suuuuure, it all starts with an innocent Horse Armor here, a Horadric Backpack there.... And then...

Jokes aside I hope they stay true to this stance!

You'll probably be able to earn tons of cosmetics in game. I'm sure they're borrowing the model from World of Warcraft the way mounts are.

That was pre-Activision.......Activision is all about the Moola and nothing else....Diablo Immortal is proof of that.

Since they promised a darker atmosphere in this game, I hope it's not ruined by shop stuff introducing some silly stuff. Something among the lines of: dress up as a Murloc and turn your mount into a mini-Azmodan.

Diablo Immortal is not actually Diablo 3. If I recall correct it's technically Diablo 2.5 taking place between Diablo 2 and 3.

i hope they dont go with flash gear in the shop. if i was them i would keep the shop to dark theme cosmetic gear. mount stuff. but they could also change the colour or look of players ability with shop items. that would be 100% fine with me

Of course it's not Diablo 3... it's a jest as to the fact that it's supposed to be a "different" game but it's just a slightly different story and elements to a game that feels, plays, and looks just like Diablo 3.

D4 is coming out as a full price game built strictly for PC/console audiences. The game is huge & there will be tons of content after launch for all players. Paid content is built around optional cosmetic items & eventually full expansions. We will be sharing more info soon!

...So why did they build Diablo Immortal differently?   Hmmm?   I guess being a mobile game is moral grounds for tossing morality aside?

Jokes aside they blatently lied about the purchases in Immortal and how they'd not be pay to win, lead dev was on the leaderboards without paying, etc.    Would not be surprised to see something slip through that's subtler than "buy gear here".    Maybe "paying for a premium clan house" lets the clan all get 5% more experience along with many distracting cosmetic perks.

They are really careful with the wording. "Anchored", "Built around" optional cosmetic items... I wish they could just flat out say: "There will not be progression or power related upgrades for money."

Remember how Wyatt was doing the rounds on social media pre Immortal release saying something along the lines of "It is very important to us that acquisition of gear is not tied to spending."

Then what happened? Post release he now says "Sorry I wasn't clear, we don't consider gems gear by the way, and by gear I meant the equipment slots..." and so Immortal got away with SO MUCH paid power on a f__king technicality in wording.

When did video games PR and marketing become misdirecting and distracting the audience instead of promoting the actual games?

I hate it, hate it, hate it! Why can't they just speak in a way that's crystal clear and not vague af.

Exactly, they didn't directly deny it. There could always be something like "+% to magic find", but it's not gear, it's just about getting a higher chance to get better gear!

Another option for them is to introduce some more aggressive microtransactions some time after release, so early impressions and reviews won't mention them.

I did
You thinking that "time would tell" and not "clear as day" considering they are hiring people to work on both in-game store AND who has experience in live services is beyond adorably naive
They will monetize the *filtered* out of this game

Here's another quick loot luck post, as some players just have it and then some. We've seen double Uniques from a single Treasure Goblin already, but this is even more extreme. Millertiimme took down Ashava and managed to get a triple Ancestral Unique drop! While we don't know exactly what the boots, ring and gloves were, they were definitely welcome!
What has been some of your best loot luck so far?

There's persistence and then there's... persistence. MrFrodoBeggins certainly shows the latter as he not only completed 1270 cellars in 3 days, but also documented his loot, locations, experience gained, Treasure Goblins found, Obols acquired, Butchers encountered and more!

So let's take a look at this huge breakdown of a very large mount of cellar clears, separated into the game's zones. You should definitely read the whole thing below, but here are some highlights:

3 Butcher run-ins 21 Treasure Goblins (7 packs of 3, as that's how they spawn in Cellars) 6352 Obols 13 Uniques 200 Legendaries 82,693,064 XP (taking them from level 84 to 89) Around 80,000,000 gold
MrFrodoBeggins' conclusion is that Cellars are very much not worth it and actively slow you down. The main takeaway from this experience has been... that there isn't enough variety in loading screens. Which makes a lot of sense if you look through 2540+ of them in 3 days. Here are his (not too serious) suggestions:

The character has a terribly small collection radius, you need to walk the character directly on grass, ore, gold ....... to collect! Dropping some currency and things from mobs is terribly long, maybe if it's 1-2 things you can put up with, but when hundreds and thousands of times it's very annoying... I have seen sooo many loading screens, the drawings are very beautiful and interesting, maybe you will organize a competition among artists and make hundreds of different drawings on the theme of Diablo 4, and give them your 1.5 seconds of fame. I think that over time, all people will get tired of the same thing, even beautiful.
Obviously we can't confirm these number as it's an individual player's findings, but we see no reason they'd be fabricated.

And there we have it! All of the ultra-rare/chase items have been found and confirmed with images or video! The final piece was the Melted Heart of Selig necklace and it dropped earlier today.

Spotted by AnyComputer, a Necromancer player had the item drop in Blind Burrows, and AnyComputer even translated it for us!

Source: Melted Heart of Selig dropped today.

This one isn't one of the more wanted ultra-rares, which may also be the reason why we've seen it last. Many players may have just salvaged it without even knowing it was something special, as it's effect isn't that impressive.

As we already mentioned in previous posts, these almost certainly aren't the first ones dropped and there are many more than have been reported out there (just without image or video proof) so their rarity is a little over-represented. They are still very rare, however, and most of us probably won't be seeing them any time soon.

The final 5 arrived in the past week after Harlequin's Crest was found relatively soon after launch. You can find them here: Andariel's Visage; The Grandfather; Doombringer; Ring of Starless Skies. If you really really want to throw a lot of time into maybe, possibly, probably not getting these, here are the spots for "farm" them in.

Here they all are in all their glory:

We've seen them run as soon as you engage them, we've seen them drop two Uniques at the same time, but this, this is something new. I suppose it was only a matter of time before the treasure carrying ones took their sweet sweet revenge. A high level Hardcore player had a very rude awakening recently after dropping their guard around the little ones. The goblin didn't have any assistance, was the only thing in the room, and yet it still got the kill.
Killthuzad was running a tier 37 Nightmare Dungeon and really showcases just how easy it is to lose a character on Hardcore.

Death Pulse does say that the pulse a monster leaves after death is "deadly", but this is on a whole new level! The goblin was level 91, however, so perhaps this isn't that surprising, but it sure was unexpected. Killthuzad's reaction is very much on point as that is definitely the weirdest way I've seen of someone losing their character.
If you want to see the rest of the death reaction you can head over here.

Here's another report on one of the rarest Unique drops in the game! A player has received The Grandfather, the crit damage heaven two handed sword. Dropped from an event chest during a Helltide, it's sporting solid rolls, multiplying all the player's crit damage by 84%!
The player sharing the image is level 76, but the player being inspected is level 100, so they may have had it for quite a while already.
This isn't necessarily (or even likely) the first of these that has dropped, but we haven't spotted anyone posting about it before. Now all that's left for that player is to get ANOTHER one with a better roll! Here's the weapon's non-Chinese stats:

Blizzard recently shared some information on the 6 ultra-rare Uniques and how they can drop. We also saw a handy infographic going over where the best place is to farm for them over here.
