Prophet001 598 Report post Posted August 6, 2014 Hi, I was wondering if someone might be able to give me advice on gearing my Elemental/Restoration Shaman. I am trying to create one set of gear for both roles. (If it's possible.) Would anyone be able to give me any input on how to go about this? I've not found anything online. I'm curious about what my strategy should be and what reforges, gems, and enchants I should be shooting for. Thank you for any help you can give. :)
Akoras 2 Report post Posted August 6, 2014 Short answer: don't do it.. Of course as you level up you probably want to quest in elemental spec and maybe heal in dungeons. That is fine and probably easier than if you choose enh as your damage spec. But once you hit lv 90 and maybe want to start raiding in some way, you should aim to grab two different sets of gear. The reason is, that the stat priorities for resto and ele are very different. Worst problem is probably spirit, which translates to hit for ele but every point over 15% is utterly wasted. Next big thing would be crit from my point of view, which is great for resto yet somehow rubbish to ele. And of course most trinkets tend to be either healing trinkets or damage dealer ones. (so are Tier sets once you get them) In conclusion: I myself play resto/ele as my main and while it is possible to level in resto gear, once you reach a certain point, start to look for other items for yor dd spec. They are really not that hard to come by and will make life much easier for you. :)
Hybrys 199 Report post Posted August 6, 2014 It's pretty hard to do so, just because they have such opposing stat priorities, with Resto loving Crit, and Ele hating it, or with Resto needing more Spirit than Ele typically requires. It's kind of unfortunate in that regard. However, if you wanted to build a decent middling set, you could do a Haste focus, looking for majority Spirit/Haste pieces. Haste is a reasonable throughput stat for Resto (although being the worst, it's not by far), as well as Spirit being required for Ele's hit rating. You would just reforge the Haste into Crit when you're playing Resto, and the Spirit into Mastery when you're playing Ele. Again, though, if you really want to min-max, you would prefer to have two separate sets.
Prophet001 598 Report post Posted August 7, 2014 Thank you for the replies. I appreciate them. I'm going to assume that if I was under this pursuit, I would never want to have piece of gear with hit on it correct? Hit is wasted on Ele due to spirit doubling as hit rating. Anyway, thank you again.
Hybrys 199 Report post Posted August 7, 2014 That's right, hit pieces are a good stopgap for Ele, but would be useless in Resto.
