Blizzard posted details on the Wrath Classic-pre expansion event that will begin on live servers on September 5.

  • On September 5, shipments of Conspicuous Crates will start arriving in Booty Bay and other ports.
  • During the week of September 13, the Scourge Invasion will begin in major cities. At this point, invasion points will start spawning. There, you'll defeat rare undead lieutenants for items that you can exchange outside of Light's Hope Chapel in Eastern Plaguelands for various goods.
    • You'll be able to defeat additional enemies in Dire Maul, Razorfen Downs, Scarlet Monastery, Scholomance, Shadowfang Keep, and Stratholme.
    • Level 70 players can obtain a new raid quest in any capital city called Chamber of Secrets to kill Level 70 players can obtain a raid quest in any capital city in Azeroth (Chamber of Secrets) to kill Prince Tenris Murkblood in Karazhan. The prince can drop the Vampiric Batling pet and the coveted Arcanite Ripper.

You know the score. The Lich King, perhaps Azeroth’s most infamous villain, is returning. The last time he set his eyes on a goal, it didn’t end well for anyone involved—just ask Illidan Stormrage. But before you can take the fight to Northrend, first you must deal with more pressing matters. The Lich King is already making his first move, eager to stop Azeroth’s greatest heroes dead in their tracks—quite literally—with a fresh variant of the Scourge plague. It is up to you to survive it if you hope to journey to the frozen wastes of Northrend to stop him.

The Zombie Infestation

Starting the week of September 6, astute observers will notice shipments of Conspicuous Crates arriving at less than reputable ports like Booty Bay. These highly contagious containers will infect anyone who touches them with a deadly variant of the Scourge plague. If you need assistance to avoid a grisly death, look for a nearby Argent Healer to cleanse yourself. Player characters capable of dispelling diseases can also help you recover… for now.

Zombified!

If you’re unable to get rid of the disease, you’ll become a Plague Zombie. While you’ll still have control of your character, you will no longer have access to any abilities you had while living (or unliving, if you were Forsaken). Instead, you’ll gain new abilities that will help you accomplish your new goal as a servant of the Lich King: to infect as many people as possible! As a zombie, you can use the following skills against players and NPCs alike:

  • Melee: Infects the target with the plague and heals you.
  • Mangle!: An instant attack that shortens the time the infection takes to zombify the victim.
  • Retch!: Retches on the ground, creating a gas cloud that heals zombies and slows living targets, infecting them after a certain period.
  • Beckoning Groan: Calls up to 4 non-player zombies to aid you.
  • Lurch!: Increases the speed of nearby zombies (including yourself).
  • Zombie Explosion!: Burst into pieces, destroying yourself but infecting those around you.

Any targets you infect will eventually become Plague Zombies if not treated. In time large populated areas will become too dangerous to dwell in. If you’re looking to avoid infection, it is best to avoid these places *ahem* like the plague.

If you get killed as a zombie, you can be resurrected by another player, by the spirit healer, or by running back to your corpse. Once you return to life, you’ll be back to normal, but you can still be re-infected, so be on your toes!

It gets worse…

As the week progresses, more Conspicuous Crates will be delivered to every capital city in the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor. Beware of vermin like Plagued Roaches as they can spread the plague, even when dealt with from a safe distance. The infection’s incubation time will become shorter and shorter, and harder to overcome. Plagued Residents, former common citizens unable to fight off the plague, will also terrorize starting areas, bringing additional challenges for fledgling heroes to overcome.

Over time, the once plentiful Argent Healers will see their forces spread too thin to contain the infestation, and the plague will become more and more resistant to magic. And this seemingly unstoppable disease is just the beginning….

The Scourge Invasion

Starting the week of September 13, the Scourge Invasion will begin. Having survived the assault on Naxxramas (you wouldn’t know anything about that, would you?) Kel’Thuzad is ready to once more advance the Lich King’s efforts by striking at strategic locations all over Azeroth. The dread citadel Naxxramas has left the Eastern Plaguelands for good, absconding to the icy continent of Northrend.

In addition to dealing with the ever-growing Zombie Infestation, you’ll be tasked with investigating the Scourge activity within the major cities and thwarting invasions throughout Azeroth. Keep your eye on your map (M) to locate activity hotspots and put a stop to them.

In each invasion point, you’ll engage with rare undead who each have a chance to drop various helpful items. Find the Argent Quartermaster, located outside of Light's Hope Chapel in Eastern Plaguelands to exchange items obtained from invasion points for various goods, including parts of the epic Undead Slaying and Undead Cleansing sets.

Additional foes can be found in the Dire Maul, Razorfen Downs, Scarlet Monastery, Scholomance, Shadowfang Keep, and Stratholme dungeons:

  • Revanchion inside Dire Maul
  • Lady Falther'ess inside Razorfen Downs
  • Scorn in Scarlet Monastery
  • Lord Blackwood in Scholomance
  • Sever in Shadowfang Keep
  • Balzaphon in Stratholme

Prince Tenris Murblood in a laboratory in Karazhan.

Level 70 players can obtain a raid quest in any capital city in Azeroth (Chamber of Secrets) to hunt down and destroy Prince Tenris Murkblood in Karazhan. The prince can drop the Vampiric Batling pet and the coveted Arcanite Ripper. This two-handed axe is guaranteed to rock the casbah.

A Forsaken warrior wielding the Arcanite Ripper, a large two-handed axe sporting a big skull and guitar strings along the shaft, a mix between weapon and musical instrument.

The Aftermath

All good(?) things must come to an end. Eventually, the Alliance and the Horde will work together to find a cure for the Zombie Infestation and push the Scourge back to where they came from. The Lich King’s plans will be temporarily halted as the pre-expansion events end and Wrath of the Lich King Classic launches—just in time for you to hop on the nearest long skip to Northrend. Savor your victory, hero… while you still can.

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
