Elro 47 Report post Posted August 20, 2014 Hey guys, I've been here reading and posting in the warlock and mage forums for awhile now, and I'd like a more in-depth analysis of my own logs to see exactly what I can improve. I appreciate any and all tips, and don't sugarcoat it :) Armory: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/silver-hand/Elrovao/advanced Logs: http://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/qWzK3NxDAMY26k7w I was toying with Affliction on Norushen, but the other 3 bosses were in Demo. Somehow, I even scored rank 8 Demo lock on Galakras (feeling pretty proud, even though I know I wasn't playing perfectly). Thanks in advance, you guys are the best. Recklessfear 33 Report post Posted August 20, 2014 sup is a dps loss imp swarm is a dps loss Doom uptime is low. Should be 95%+ Corruption uptime is low shadoflame uptime should be closer to 40% with 4pc cast doom twice at the 4:30 mark with no BBoY Even if your kills were fast enough to utilize imp swarm, you didn't cast it with haste buffs
Zagam 1,982 Report post Posted August 20, 2014 Demo ranks mean pretty little since the player distribution leans one way - what you should be comparing your DPS to is how you perform as Destruction or Affliction. It will be a small bit less, but RNG can swing Demo into some pretty high parses, even above the other two specs. With that said, I'll note that while Supremacy is noted by Reck to be a DPS loss, it's not as detrimental as most will lay out. The loss in DPS is very small - EXCEPT when a fight lasts an even number of minutes ending in 20-30 seconds. Your kill time on IJ is perfect for this - at 6:29, you could have had 4 uses of a Service Felguard. The Demonic Fury generation is rather small (only 60 per), but the damage lining up with Dark Soul would have put you over. With fights lasting odd number of minutes, Supremacy CAN come out ahead, especially in a single target situation like this. Supremacy is the 'easy way' to play since it removes a button to worry about as well as being a quality of life bonus since he never spends enough Fel Energy to not be able to Wrathstorm unlike his inferior cousin. With that said, looking at your IJ kill... 1) Doom uptime = 85%. No good; needs to be up 100% of the time. 2) Corruption uptime = 84%. Again, important to have up 100% of the time, not just for damage but for DF generation 3) Only 20 casts of Hand of Gul'dan in a 6:30 fight - this is some severe underuse of HoG. This, in turn, is why your Shadowflame uptime is low. 4) Metamorphosis uptime = 34%. This is relatively low, which is a product of the above 3 mistakes cutting your DF generation down. 5) You had incredible BBoY proc RNG - back to back procs 3 times and the largest gap being 1:30, so every single one of your Dooms should have been super stacked. You cast Doom 4 times in the first 24 seconds - why? Your first one was captured properly - your 2nd one overwrote a mega Doom. Then you cast it two times back to back with PBI and BBoY up. I understand WHY that might have felt like a good thing, but the first application would have used Pandemic to snapshot both buffs. You blew 200 DF when you should have only used up 100 DF. This cost you globals, Meta uptime, and likely impeded on your ability to do other stuff. Relatively minor note - you cast Doom on IJ when he was at 1%. It never ticked on him. If Doom is falling off at this point, just use Soul Fire - if it won't tick once, don't use it. 6) Dark Soul was used only 3 times in a fight that lasted 6.5 minutes. Without AD, you could have used it 4 times. With AD, 5. Which talent are you using? Do NOT use KJC as Demonology. You theoretically missed out on two uses of Demo's largest buff. There are some good things including good use of Soul Fire. Work on the basics of Warlocks - DoTs up 100% of the time and snapshotting big procs.
Elro 47 Report post Posted August 20, 2014 Thank you Zagam :) while I'm sure I could have played much better to offset this, I wonder how much of a difference using the run and hide phase 2 strat makes. I think my uptimes would have suffered less from it, but obviously can't say for sure. I came back after a couple weeks of time off, and figured I'd give Sup a shot, since I've seen you post that it isn't always such a huge difference. Honestly, I'm going to guess that I just got too excited and stopped paying proper attention to my Doom, because as you outlined, I made some big mistakes there. Something to work on! Zagam 1,982 Report post Posted August 20, 2014 The good thing about a log like this is you grasp some basic concepts and a few of the more advanced ones such as Hand of Gul'dan weaving, but you have a lot of room to grow. Thus, if you take the advice that me and some of the other resident experts here give you and apply it, you'll grow in leaps and bounds. Never settle, however. Every week, I strive to be better at what I do, even with content on farm and owning 99%+ parses. Improve every week and never regress.
Elro 47 Report post Posted August 21, 2014 I always aim to improve. I'm immensely grateful that you all take the time to give me the advice I need on how to do so, and I shall update with more logs in a couple weeks when things settle down a bit in real life. You guys rock :)
