adding gems to socketed staff

if i add a ruby to a socketed staff will it only add damage in normal attack? or will it add to fire bolt also?

Heya, it will only add fire damage to a normal attack (ie when you strike with the weapon). If you want to add more to your fire bolt damage, look for gear/charms that add to skills (e.g., "+1 to skills" or "+2 to fire skills").
