Legendary Shaman Guide Deck improvement ideas?

Recommended Posts

I just managed to get every card required for deck from this site's guide for Legendary Control Shaman. Now I am going to play it a lot, but I am already starting to think about future improvements.

So, my question is - what should be the next most obvious improvement for that deck?

If you have Naxx cards, we will have new Shaman decks with Naxx cards out very very soon wink.png

Hmm, thanks for new decks. I still have some problems with my deck.

First of all I am playing at lower ladder levels (~15) and there are currently too many rush decks. So I went with your guides suggestions and threw in some forked lightnings and Lava. Next, while waiting for new deck guides on your site, I used your Shaman Crafting guide and added Sylvanas. Now after including Loatheb I really struggle with substitution choices.

Here is my current result (http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/98931-control-mid-range-shaman )

Had to remove both Unbound Elementals (they are too slow against rush decks) to make space for other cards. Can you help me improve that?

I personally think Unbound Elemental is sick and you should keep it.

I trust you are having problems with ZOO, you can try building something a long these lines:

Deck

2x Forked might be an overkill, but the taunters will give any aggro deck a hard time and you will get more value out of them than additional removal.

Lava bursts I would consider only when meta is leaning towards mid-range aggro decks (token druids for example).

Give it a spin and let me know how it goes

Great deck, thank you very much for it.

I played 10 games with 7 wins and 3 losses. And considering that it's totally new deck for me, and I am a total noob, this is just superb result.

Each of those losses deserves brief explanation:

1. after opp's combo with Stallag + Reincarnate + Rivendare + Bloodlust which lead to 3 Stallags on board buffed with Bloodlust, I managed to survive 3 more moves desperately hoping for Doomhummer which still could give me a victory.

2. playing Zoo Hunter without drawing even a single taunt card from a deck full of taunts was fun. And still having chances for a win in such situation tells a lot about this deck.

3. Well, the third loss wasn't deck's fault but purely mine. Having full health I chose wrong between very pricey clearing of the board and getting my opp down to 4 health. Maybe this could work, but now I know that against priest it's a bad idea, which gives him some chances for survival.

As a summary for my losses, what I like about this deck, that even when I loose with it, I always still have chances for a win up to the very last move in the game.

Overall impression: great deck. Damage is a bit low at a late stage, but still enough to secure a win.

The only possible improvement I can think about right now is switching one Sen'jin to Ragnaros or Loatheb. This could make this deck to finish some game a few turns sooner. It still makes me wonder if it's possible to add more epic/legend cards here to make it even better.

I also added detailed description of those ten test fights below:

1. Priest - WIN

Pros:

- No problems with board control at all

- Best minion: Sludge

Cons:

- Bit too much taunt in a deck, fight could have ended much quicker

- Most useless minion: Sen'jin.

Decisive combo: Doomhammer + Rockbiter

2. Warrior - WIN

Pros:

- A lot of taunt just saved me (at some point I had 5 health against 28 opponent's health)

- Best minion: Sen'jin

Cons:

- None noticed. Maybe, slight problems with card count.

(Wasted too many spells to remove first few waves of opp's minions)

Decisive combo: Al'Akir + Flametoungue

3. Paladin - WIN

Pros:

- It was relatively easy to regain board control back during mid-game

- Best minion: Nerubian Egg / Sludge

Cons:

- None noticed

Decisive combo: Two Nerubian Eggs + Flametoungue

4. Mage - WIN

Pros:

- Total board control

- Best minion: Unbound Elemental buffed with spells (soaked in unbelievable ammounts of opponents spells in mid-game)

Cons:

- None noticed.

Decisive combo: Unbounds + spells with overload

5. Shaman - LOSS

Pross:

- Untill my opp's decisive combo I was enjoying total board control and was leading with hp score: 30 - 12

- Even after I missed opponent's combo on Stallag + Reincarnate + Rivendare + Bloodlust which gave my opponent 3 Stallags with double attack,

I still managed to survive 3 additional moves (because of great ammount of taunt on the board) trying to draw Doomhummer which could gave me a win together with Rockbiter (opp had only 7 hp left against my 30).

- Best minion: Sludge

Cons:

- If I had more damage in a mid/late game, opponent could have not survive. Maybe if I switch one Sen'jin to Ragnaros this deck gives me some late game chances when things get out of hand.

Still I'm not sure about this idea, because this could increase my chances in this game only situationally.

Decisive combo: Doomhammer + Rockbiter (though I didn't get Doomhammer on my three last draws before death, it was this combo that could save this otherwise totally lost game)

6. Warlock - WIN

Pros:

- Even against ZOO warlock, who was constantly using his class ability, I managed to control the board until the late game, where I played only one card against his two for last 5 moves.

- While drawing really unsuitable cards through all the game, I still managed to win.

- It's a miracle, but I run out of cards in my hand only at the late-late game, against warlock who was constantly pressuring me with minions and using his ability.

- Best minion: Fire Elemental (delivered last 3 damage ignoring all opp's taunts)

Cons:

- Non noticed.

Decisive combo: Unbound elemental, protected and buffed by Ferral Spirit and Lightning Bolt allowed me to regain board control back in the mid-game.

7.Warrior - WIN

Pros:

- Even without drawing Sludge for the whole game this deck managed to survive rush Warrior deck (with Sludge it would be like a relaxing park walk in a sunny day)

- Best minion: Nerubian Egg

Cons:

- Non noticed

Decisive combo: Nerubian Egg + Rockbiter

8. Hunter - LOSS

This game can't say anything about deck. Playing deck full of taunts and not getting even a single taunt card (also not a single totem with taunt) for 7 moves agains Zoo Hunter is just the definition of a bad luck.

9. Priest - LOSS

Pros:

- Had great chances (hp score 30 - 4 on move 12 in my favour) even with a bad card draw (none of the: rockbiter, lightnings, sludge, and only 1 hex) through the whole game

- Best minion: Al'Akir

Cons:

- At some point choosing between very high costly board removal in a late game and getting enemy health down to 4, I chose damage to the face. That was a bad decision. Yes, I had 30 health, and doomhummer, 2 light bolts and 2 rockbiters still in a dek on move 11, and opponent didn't show a single minion with taunt for the whole game. Maybe against anyone else this was enough, but not against priest. So, to sum up: all fault for the loss is mine, but I still lack a little bitof that late game damage.

10. Priest - WIN

Pros: Enough taunt to survive deck with 3 giants.

Cons: A slight lack of card draw

A quick report on Shaman deck. So far I managed to get from lvl 15 to lvl 10 without any problem at all, using the anti-zoo Shaman deck suggested by Poyo.

At lvl 10 amount of Zoo rapidly decreased and I decided to try famous "Crusher Shaman" combo deck. After a lot of time lost and being again at lvl 15, I decided to give new Naxx Shaman deck from this site another chance. Climbed from lvl 15 to lvl 7 with a win rate about 60% -65% and continue climbing.

Few changes I made are:

Lightning Bolt [out] - Forked Lightning [in] : because of Zoo

Loatheb [out] - The Black Knight [in]: because Sludge is so popular (also Sunwalkers are less popular but also seen very often, and Druids "enjoy" seeing you play TBK too)

Spiders[out] - Sludge [in] : for me this change increased survival rate dramatically.

Ok, i'm new here. I signed up because of all the quality contents i found! Especially the precious decklists (currently using  your awesome naxx midrange shaman list)

For what it's worth, i give you my report. Currently ranking 14, playing with naxx midrange control with few missing cards.

This is the list i came up with, working fine up to now as i'm only losing against midranges/control decks with all the most powerful cards in them (i.e legendary and epics such as Doomhammer, Ragnaros, Sylvanas etc.).

I inserted the Bursts as a finisher and as a removal, serving fine against pure control decks (i think it's a quite underrated card and should be considered also for pure control Shaman decks, especially when lacking a Big Game Hunter), also left a Hoarder for an additional drawing which i found crucial in a lot of situations.

P.S. The synergies with the Nerubian Egg you suggested are just great! Thanks for your awesome ideas!

Throwing away Loot Hoarder for Sen'jin Shieldmasta (and maybe even one more spider for another Sen'jin or Sludge) will greatly improve your survival rate against aggro. Also if you find place for at least one Defender of Argus or Sunfury you'll get additional taunts and, the most important! - additional Egg enablers.

But, I'm a noob, maybe admins will give a better advise.

Oh, and if you have Loatheb, he is definetely better then Earth Elemental (actually almost everything at 5+ mana cost is better then Earth Elemental which is played without Ancestral Spirits)
