Battle for Azeroth Raids Will Be Hard to Solo at Dragonflight Launch

Battle for Azeroth will be two expansions old with the launch of Dragonflight, but the raids are hard to solo at Level 70 in Dragonflight.

Blizzard recently added multipliers for Legion raids, which means they will be easier to solo at Level 70 in Dragonflight. However, Legion raids were easily soloable even before the changes were made.

This week, Blizzard enabled Battle for Azeroth raids on the Dragonflight Beta. However, these are a nightmare to solo even though Battle for Azeroth is now 2 expansions old, which means they should be considered Legacy raids with added multipliers.

Multipliers increase your damage done and reduce your damage taken in a Legacy raid.

I've done some extensive testing over the weekend and played through BfA raids on my Level 70 Hunter with Item Level 394 and a full 5/5 tier set, including 421 trinkets. It is worth noting that I am not a Hunter player, I just thought the class would be good for soloing raid bosses because it has two pets up at all times. The Hunter had the default Beast Mastery Starter Build selected and no other changes were made.

Uldir was not available for testing, so I can't comment on the raid.

Battle of Dazar'alor -- I tried Mythic difficulty but couldn't beat the first ram boss due to low damage output, the stacking debuff, and the adds constantly healing the boss. I reached Opulence, the fourth boss, on Normal difficulty. The damage from Wail of Greed was unmanageable, with 244k health.

Based on my previous experience with Battle of Dazar'alor, I didn't even bother with other difficulties besides Normal for Ny'alotha.

Wrathion was barely doable.

Prophet Skitra was easier than Wrathion. Although at some point after the mirror images phase, I had to resurrect my pets multiple times.

Next was Maut. I couldn't beat the boss due to low DPS output and the Obsidian Skin barrier, but it was a really close fight. I assume it could be done with a different class.

Content creator MrGM who's definitely a better Hunter player than me, also tried soloing Ny'alotha, and the results were 6 bosses down, with the last two being undoable because of the missing cloak.

So from a casual player perspective, you won't be able to do much if you plan on running BfA raids for transmog at Level 70 in Dragonflight. Hopefully, the situation will improve as we get better gear throughout the new expansion.

We had this situation in Shadowlands, where raids from two expansions ago were initially hard or impossible to solo, it got better over time once better gear was available. It looks it's the same here, some issue with scaling and reworking the talents?

If I had to guess, I'd say the scaling. I know when I was leveling alts recently some scaling in dungeons is absurd, like getting one shot by the deepening shadows mechanics of Cordana Felsong in Vault of the Wardens. Dealt around 4k/sec at lvl 17.

This is the kind of stuff that makes them seem super out of touch, honestly SL normal raids should be soloable once you get geared first tier of DF. there is no reason to keep farming old gear behind such a high barrier to entry. no one is running BFA or SL content as their main content anymore, especially once 70, I hate this mythical player blizzard keeps in their mind that is some how playing wow but not buying the new expansion so they have to keep the last expansion still totally undoable. This has been a horrible issue since barrowed power has come into the game, even now it takes twice as long to do like Mythic ToS or even heroic Antorus because we lost all our SL stuff

💯 .
Raids should be soloable 2 expansions old right out the gate. There's zero reason for them not to be soloable at that level and point. I've always detested how - yes, despite being an MMO - this game has several things excluded to solo gamers. If a player is paying a subscription fee, I feel they should be able to at least grind their way to victory or success or achievement, even if they happen to not have friends to play with.

Exactly, I hate when sometimes there are mechanics and achievements that require a group (in some cases even full raid), because otherwise they won't work. They should do some tuning and/or make some of that stuff feats of strength, because no one is doing them anymore. It was already silly when some Legion raids weren't doable earlier in Shadowlands.

How I think it should work:

All current end-game content should become immediately soloable on the launch day of the second expansion henceforth.

On launch day of DF, for example, all end-game content for BFA should be immediately soloable to players who are the previous expansion's max level -- in this case, 60.  Leveling to a current expansion's max level in order to solo content two expansions old should not be required.

Every dungeon, every raid, and every difficulty should be soloable in two expansions, and not just barely soloable, but easily soloable, as in the hardest bosse dies within a few hits max.  Any wonky mechanics that might otherwise impede you should be nerfed or removed.

This should be standard practice.  Period.

It sucks I know, but Blizzard wants the gaming populace to focus on the new content that is being delivered in DF not on past expansions.  This will gradually change the further we delve into the DF expansion and imo I'm ok with this.

It would be weird for Blizz to do that though. Because surely if you made the older content easier, people would then not have to get 15 people together to clear old content slower.

Surely it makes sense to make all old content 1 shottable so that people can solo blast it all and get back to the main DF content.

Yes it would but from what I saw during BFA alot of the Legion and most of WoD content (HFC) was not completely solo'able till very late and still required 'x' amount of people to adequately farm for xmog and mounts specially on Mythic difficulty.  Uldir, for BFA, on Mythic difficulty is still hard for a solo player even with a group of 5 or less.  Blizzard's excuse, in the past, was the scaling and promised players that it will be adjusted accordingly soon but hardly ever touched it till either mid tier or close to the start of end tier of the current expansion at the time.

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
