Community Reactions and Memes for Twitch Drops and Feldrake Mount

Recommended Posts

Another big topic cropped up in the WoW community this week, as Blizzard announced some free Twitch drops, coming from the pool of the WoW trading card game's loot cards. The focus was centered on the mount, the Feldrake Feldrake, a very valuable item from the TCG, that usually got sold for anywhere from $500 to $5000 (even still today). A debate started over whether the fact that it was added for free was a good or bad idea, considering how much money some people spent on it.

But before we get into the debate itself, let's take a look at some of the memes that sprung up around it. First, here's an artist re-imagining of the Blizzard offices when they made the announcement.

Then an accurate description of the community reaction.

Then there's the ultimate response for the one of the more popular arguments.

And then there are the many, many, MANY threads in which players are discussing the issue, with those that own it feeling quite the sting, some arguing that its uniqueness will be gone as everyone will now have it and only use it for a few days, and most players being pretty happy with the free mount. Then there's those very edge cases like SgtZimm24...

A very good point brought up in the above thread is that the Twitch drops are also very limited time offers, and only those actively playing during that short time span will actually get it, so anyone returning will not have access to it. While the mount will certainly not be as rare as before, there will still be players wanting it (plus the card itself is worth something).

We then have a serious mount collector sharing their story and perspective, and as you can imagine, the comments were not very kind.

Some Feldrake owners actually bought it on the Auction House for gold, but despite not spending thousands of dollars on it, are still pretty upset.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, some players are arguing the mount isn't rare or unique enough:

And finally, there's also a pretty big cluster of posts with plenty of upvotes talking about doing the same for other TCG mounts and items, like the legendary Spectral Tiger (which was recently sold for $5000) in the future.

Here are a few other threads where the discussion has been raging:

Where do you stand in this most recent of WoW community debates?

These people act like they weren't operating outside the realm of Blizzard. You got a stroke of luck and got rewarded for playing a TCG game. The reward was not $3000. It was a little treat for you to use in the game. You do not get to complain when the treat is offered to others. And you most CERTAINLY do not get to complain if you went off-grid to pay someone $3000 for something you did not earn.

Consider this:  we finally have a cost comparison for how much our eyeballs and internet-measured-energy is worth to them.

3000 per watcher x 4 hours x every player twitchdrop hoping x (0.75 stats variance for people not really watching but wanting the mount anyway) x (1.25 stats variance for people who don't care for or about mounts but are managing to hype this on the twitterverse)

yields ad revenue
how much of this funds addons (*)
how much of this funds charities (as many streamers are supporting one or more nonprofits)
how much of this upsells that the crew within blizz has a new attitude

and whether "come back it'll be fun" will outweigh the wailing.

(*) I am far more salty that creators & maintainers of popular addons did not get beta keys, than I am about whether someone gets a mount for being willing to let Twitch tell Blizz where they are on a holiday night.

I own several TCG mounts/pets/items/etc. I'm glad they're finally adding them into the game, granted I wish they were a bit more hands on like adding them to drops to certain mobs (imagine having to farm westfall chickens for the magical rooster mount) but hey it's better than having them locked behind hundreds of dollars.

Imagine being mad about them removing something that is literal pay to win XDXDXDXD

Hot take here, but the only mount worth a damn in this game is the Soaring Spelltome

All the other TCG mounts next please, thanks ^^

Just dont forget that this promo is just for 2~3 days, in like, 18 years of the game.

I dont think it will sunk the rarity at all, for example, the deathwing mount from 15 years is now considered a nice / rare item.

Assigning the Fel Drake or any rare mount whatever its source to a Twitch reward is really wrong. Personally I don't like the mount, I think its ugly but that's irrelevant. Bliz should never give away rare mounts for free. I would be pretty annoyed if they gave away the X-51 rocket for example which cost me all my accumulated gold over 15 years. Or if they decided to give away Sylvanas current mythic raid mount or Invincible which took 273 attempts over 6 months. If they give away mounts for free they should be new models or old mounts they previously gave away for free.

Well, it's clear those rewards were an afterthought. Let's put something related to dragons! It's not the first time they reused existing stuff for a promotion. If someone spent a lot of gold or real money on those items, it's on them. Personally, I never liked this concept of artificial scarcity, they could always make this stuff available again. So they are doing it now, but I would prefer all stuff available in game, rather than some drops.

"Most people seem to not even want the mount.. they just really want to laugh at anyone who already has it."

No, most people want the mount because they want though mount.  It's a cool mount.  And they want it because it's cool.  People who don't want others to have the mount are just upset because it made them feel special, and now they don't anymore.  Most people who own it don't even use it; they're using newer mounts.

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
