I read somewhere that demo shout only mitigates physical damage. Is this actually true? If so, what the fuck. If not, phew.

Usually, tooltips are pretty specific if something only mitigates a certain type of damage. Either way, it's a good thing to check and this question seems to be asked quite a bit. Not sure where the idea that it's physical damage only started, but it's spread quite far.
