or more diablo 3 content on this site in general. I think these guides are very helpful and would like to see more.

The only thing that's out of date that I know of is the Swords to Ploughshares rune from Battle Rage has changed.  Instead of dropping health globes, it heals you directly.

If your character is not yet level 70, then you won't have everything listed.  You add in the skills and runes it recommends as you level up .  Some of them aren't available until at or near level 70.

They do not show a recommendation for your off hand equipment slot.  I don't know if this was an oversight or if they assume you will be using a two-handed weapon or dual-wielding.  Either way, the guide could be more clear about it.

As of Feb 5 2016 this appears to be garbage. My barbarian doesnt have Rend, cant have Battle Rage is #2 which means you cant have BOTH Battle Rage and War Cry in 3

It sounds like you need to enable Elective Mode. Open your game menu, choose “options,” then “gameplay,” and check the “elective mode” box. Then you can put any skill to any spot on your bar, and choose more than one skill from the same section.  Let me know if that fixes your problem or not.

Elective mode is required for all but the most basic, beginner setups.  I'm not sure why they don't just have it enabled by default.

This build is working great for me in low difficulty nepahlem rifts right now, but you can easily run into a fury-starved situation in solo greater rifts with this, since everything else despawns when the rift guardian shows up.

I found replacing Sprint with Furious Charge helped with a lot of those problems.

Does it really work that great without the orb drop from swords to plow shares?  It seems to hinge on it.

Guest CoA Skill Swap?

What skill would one suggest dropping in favor of Call of the Ancients if you have 2 (or more) of IK's set pieces?

I'm not an expert, but I would say it depends on which rune you choose with Call of the Ancients.  If you choose Together as One, which will cut your damage in half, then get rid of War Cry, as you won't need the armor buff (for now.)  If you choose a damage-oriented rune, then maybe drop Battle Rage (but watch how that effects your healing.)  If you choose Ancients Fury, you will have virtually unlimited fury, so you can drop the Unforgiven passive.  But which skill to drop there...  Well, you will have enough fury to Whirlwind non-stop, so you might even drop Rend.  Either way, change your Whirlwind rune to something else like Blood Funnel, since you won't need it to generate fury.

Note that the video was made in 2015 and the guide updated recently. That's also a reason there might be slight discrepancy (like weapon secondaries).

Is there a catch with using rend as a primary attack? Although it does lots of damage and pretty good work at cleaning large packs of mobs, I can't seem to have enough furry to sustain it.

I'm 70 paragon 34. Am I doing something wrong?

Whirlwind will act as your primary generator, since the rune grants you fury when it hits an enemy. You will basically be constantly whirlwinding, while using Rend when you can.

These guides, aside from the basic aspect that they show how to build a skills build together, are really quite confusing and less than helpful.  Case in point is this IK set Barb build.

The guide says "Items that are recommended and should be priority to obtain for the Immortal King's Call set (which Season 8 Barbarians obtain in full from Haedrig's Gifts) are:" and then proceeds to give a list of gear which mostly doesn't support the build and skills given AT ALL - no Hammer of the Ancients for Gavel of Judgement or Bracers of the First men to boost, no Seismic Slam to get any benefit from Fury of the Vanished Peak or Bracers of Destruction.  Likewise, Lamentation and Chilanik's Chian are listed without either of their related skills being part of the build.  Suggested gear also includes both Endless Walk and Bastions of Will jewelry sets, which cannot be usefully combined.

Gear suggestions should be written specifically for the build they're presented with, not as a general synopsis of the entire class...doing so is just lazy and not helpful.

Hello there, and thanks for the feedback. While the "staple items for X set" list had its use, I can see how you found it jumbled and confusing rather than helpful, so I have pushed an update on their presentation. I hope their purpose becomes clearer, and the beginner guides now point you better to intermediate/late game guides.

As for the remainder of the guide, both its leveling and "fresh 6 piece set" builds assume no specific gear at all, and merely point you towards a spec that works from the get go. Hopefully their purpose as a broad introduction to the class are better fulfilled now.

Hello,

New to Icy-Veins for D3. Was scoping out the leveling Barbarian build that says it was updated recently.  Seems to call for rend and whirlwind to be on the action bar at the same time, Rend can't be chosen as a primary,  it and whirlwind share the "secondary" attack slot. Am I missing something with my noobness?

Thanks,

Bobby

lol everyone is new at first :)

So to answer your question in your options menu you can select elective mode. This allows you to take multiple abilities from the same "tier". So with elective mode on, a barbarian could have both rend and whirlwind on their active bar. It has no restrictions. You can use 4 resource generators, 4 spending abilities, what have you. This is what allows a lot of the end game builds but also allows them to function :)

Thanks a ton!  Every build I looked at had two or three abilities from a category.  Makes much more sense now!!

Hi,

I am only new to diablo 3 and I have been using this guide for my barbarian from the start.

My advice would be to save using rend until you have a large group and then only activate it again when the dripping blood icons disappear. Keep using leap, ground stomp and war cry when available to maintain your fury levels and use whirlwind to do the damage. It has been working fine for me even when I didn't have wind shear.

As deadset mentioned you might want to use cleave with rend until you get the whirlwind skill as it tags multiple enemies and again worked well for me.

Thanks for the guide deadset it helped a lot. Looking forward to the update for season 17.

Blizzard have moved the launch of Season 34 back a week!
While it was supposed to start today, Blizzard cite players not wanting the new D3 and D4 season launches to overlap on the same week, and needing more time to get the season properly set up, as the previous one ended early.
      Season 34 Delay (Source)
      Hi all
We have shifted the start for the new season of Diablo III to next week. This is due to a few items:
We received a good amount of feedback that many didn’t want overlap with the first weekend of Diablo IV’s new season. We agree so we are building out that gap and will be more mindful of that going forward.
This will help us properly ensure account states migrate over as we had an issue with the prior season rolling early and us having to kick things back on.
You can find the exact times on our Season 34 blog.

Blizzard has posted an official preview of Diablo 3's upcoming Season 34 that starts on January 24!
The ongoing Season 33 ends on January 19. Season 34 reintroduces the Light's Calling Season theme, which means players can obtain Angelic Crucibles, consumables that may be used to Sanctify any Legendary item, infusing it randomly with one of three new class-specific powers. Cosmetic rewards for the patch are as follows:
Completing the Season 34 Guarian journey grants the Book of Cain pet and the Lost Civilization Portrait Frame.
Haedrig's Gift will award you with the following sets in Season 34:
Barbarian - Horde of the Ninety Savages Crusader - Aegis of Valor Demon Hunter - Gears of Dreadlands Monk - Patterns of Justice Witch Doctor - Mundunugu’s Regalia Wizard - Typhon’s Veil Necromancer - Masquerade of the Burning Carnival For more information about Season 34, check out the official blog post below.

Sanctuary needs you to answer its call for aid in Season 34: Light’s Calling. Starting on January 24 at 5 p.m. PST/CET/KST, Nephalem can harness the power of the Light’s Calling theme, which first debuted with Season 27. For an in-depth look at what’s coming, take a gander below. Also, Season 33 will officially come to an end on January 19.
      Seasonal Journey
      Season Theme
      Season Cosmetic Rewards
      Season Journey Rewards
      Seasonal Conquest

      Season Theme
Looking to turn the tide of an unremitting war between light and darkness, the Angels of the High Heavens have embedded a token of their righteousness in Sanctuary. Cunning Nephalem seeking an advantage in combat will undergo an angelic trial, crystallizing a symbol of their morality into pure, otherworldly perfection. The specific celestial force imbued within by the divine is unknown—an answer waiting to be sought on the battlefield. Go forth, Nephalem!
Season 34 reintroduces Light’s Calling. Valiant Nephalem who recover Angelic Crucibles, a new consumable item, may use them to Sanctify any equippable Legendary item, infusing it with one of three new class-specific powers at random. We wanted to use Angelic Crucibles to lean into the expertise of each class, further exemplifying its respective prowess, but through a nuanced lens. The High Heavens are home to ethereal splendor, bursting with boundless radiance—we wanted to provide players with a taste of untainted power as doled out from Heaven itself.

      Season Cosmetic Rewards
In Season 34, awards originally available from Season 10 are returning. In addition to the Head and Shoulder slots of the exclusive Conqueror Set, you’ll be able to earn the Black Soulstone themed portraits and the scholarly Loremaster pennant first introduced in Season 10.

However, we know it’s nice to have something new to aim for if you’ve participated in previous Seasons. We’re continuing to provide new End of Journey rewards as introduced in Season 17, with two new cosmetic ones for those who complete the entirety of the Season journey. Prove your worth alongside the Shades of the Nephalem and complete the Season 34 Guardian Journey to earn the Book of Cain pet and the Lost Civilization Portrait Frame.

      Season Journey Rewards
If you’ve been diligently slaying demons before and reached Conqueror in the Season Journey each time, you’ve surely accrued a few extra stash tabs. You’ll earn one additional tab each Season by finishing the Conqueror tier, up to a maximum of five:
Guardian of Sanctuary: Finish a level 70 Nephalem Rift on Torment XIII difficulty within five minutes. Gem of My Life: Level three Legendary Gems to level 55. All I Do is Win: Complete two Conquests this Season. Life Goes On: Kill Maghda at level 70 in under 15 seconds on Torment XIII difficulty. Money Ain’t a Thang: Slay Greed on Torment XIII difficulty. Seasonal Conquest
Seasonal Conquests are additional goals you can complete as part of our Season Journey. To earn all the cosmetic rewards, you'll need to complete at least three of the Conquests below. The challenges available in Season 34 include:
Sprinter and Speed Racer task you with completing Acts I through V at max level in under one hour. Want to go fast while killing things? Boss Mode and Worlds Apart are right up your alley. On A Good Day and I Can’t Stop are making a return, if leveling your Legendary Gems is more your thing. Finally, if you’re keen to prove your mastery of various Class Sets, Years of War and Dynasty will be returning along with Masters of the Universe and Masters of Sets. Best of luck! Return to Top
      Haedrig’s Gift

Finally, the Class Sets rewarded for completing certain chapters in the Season Journey courtesy of Haedrig’s Gift have rotated once more. We’ve listed the available Sets below. For those new to Seasons, here’s how it works.
Completing Chapters 2, 3, and 4 of the Season Journey will reward you with three of Haedrig’s Gifts. These contain a few pieces from one of your Class Sets. Players can only unlock one Class Set in this manner per Season across Hardcore and Non-Hardcore, so choose wisely!
The set you receive depends on the class of the character you’re playing when you open each Haedrig’s Gift. To collect a full Class Set, you’ll need to open all three on the same character. In this season, Haedrig's Gift will grant all-new class sets introduced with previous Seasons.
Here are the sets granted by Haedrig’s Gift in Season 34:
Barbarian - Horde of the Ninety Savages Crusader - Aegis of Valor Demon Hunter - Gears of Dreadlands Monk - Patterns of Justice Witch Doctor - Mundunugu’s Regalia Wizard - Typhon’s Veil Necromancer - Masquerade of the Burning Carnival Return to Top

It seems something went very wrong with Season 33, as it it just... ended a while ago. Players took to the forums as there was no early warning, other than a server message around an hour before it all ended. PezRadar responded clarifying that this is not intended and that Blizzard are looking into what happened.
      Season End (Source)
Heard and got some pings while I’ve been out and I have production checking on this early end. This shouldn’t have ended today so something is funky. Will provide an update once I hear back.
