Leap/Earthquake Barbarian

Recommended Posts

Good build, thanks! Still since it depends on the Blade of Tribes weapon, which I'm still not able to get, I modified the build a bit and this resulted in what I called "a Lightning Fast Earthly Leap Barb" cool.png

What's changed"?

- switched to dual wield using a Fulminator and a Thunderfury, both with decent Lightning Damage as Main Stat

- added Skular's Salvation with 15% Lightning Damage boost

- for the Focus+Restraint set I've chosen Simplicity's Strenght and Gorok of Swiftness thus increasing my Ancient Spear damage and adding a 15% speed boost

So far - very easy rifting and pure no brainer at T10 bounties biggrin.png

Hi and thanks for the build. I'm currently using it with most items and it's a lot of fun.

I just received the belt but I'm not able to get str/vit/all res/life on it like your guide suggests. The life per fury can only be changed to armor. Is this correct? Thanks in advance.

why simplicity's strength? doesn't it only affect primary skills...

Hello! You likely have a resistance roll in your secondary stats (fire, arcane, cold,...) The mechanics of the game prevent you from rolling All Resistance in the primary stats if you have a single resist in the secondaries. Blame the Monks and their Harmony passive for that! :D And stick to your armor roll.

Ground Stomp is not used.  The Dread Iron belt is used for its damage bonus to Avalanche, not for the special property it adds to Ground Stomp.  Avalanche is triggered by Threatening Shout and War Cry (due to the weapon's legendary property).  If your Dread Iron belt does not have an Avalanche damage bonus, then it's a pre-patch version.  You either need to find a new one, or re-roll it in Kanai's Cube to turn it into the new version.

Can we place Ancient Parthan Defenders as bracers to gain toughness (as leap stuns enemies) for pushing higher GRs?

That would be a significant loss to your single target damage potential, I'm afraid. You can incorporate APDs and benefit from them, but the highest clears of the Earthquake build have been done with Skular's Salvation in its place.

For augmentation of items, would you recommend continuing along the same priority lines for gear, or would you say that straight strength is the way to augment? I am considering augmenting legs and maybe boots with Vitality, but I am not sure if pure damage boost is better for solo rifts above 70

I would honestly recommend sticking to Strength augmentation, as it nets you both Damage and Toughness (in the form of Armor). All the Vitality you need should theoretically come from well-rolled gear, and any gaps can be filled with some point-splitting in your Core Paragon section.

Hi Deadset. I have been following this guide for a while now and the build is super fun! I noticed recently that your changes to patch 2.4.2 included removing War Cry and replacing it with WotB. I was wondering if you could explain the switch, as I could not see any changes to either skill in the patch notes, nor an explanation in your guide (just the reason for using WotB, but not over War Cry). I was thinking to myself that War Cry synergizes with the build since it gives a free earthquake + avalanche, but then again I am pretty new to the game..

I've swapped Earthquake - Molten Fury with Ground Stomp - Trembling Stomp.  It takes advantage of the fire damage from my bracers.  More importantly, it automatically resets with Ancient Spear - Boulder Toss and causes an avalanche with the bonus from the belt.  You can pretty much keep monsters continuously stunned with the combination of Ground Stomp and Leap.

Another option would be to keep Earthquake and ditch Wrath of the Berserker.  You'd want to change your passive skills and decide if it was worth keeping Boon of Bul-Kathos.

Hey - as far as I've discussed it with high ranking Barbs, Wrath of the Berserker is too big of a damage and toughness boost to ignore for the sake of the free War Cry casts. Personally, I usually speedrun with this build and keep War Cry in when I do; it makes more sense in low difficulties and mid GRs for sure.

I wanted to ask a questions about this build because i was trying to enchant some items to get my gear closer to ideal. I have some items that do not have access to Resist All but the guide indicates that those items should have it available. Would this be because the item was generated with a secondary stat of Resist Cold?

That is correct, items that have singular resistance in their secondary stats (Cold, Fire, etc) cannot roll All Resistance in the primary stats.

my Hellfire Amu has Ruthless passive, which other passive should i have on the skill slots?

I'd go with the default recommendations of Boon of Bul Kathos, Rampage, Earthen Might, and add Nerves of Steel to them since you got Ruthless on your Hellfire.

Hi guys. Thanks for the insanely detailed build and explanations! I wanna try out a barb build, that focuses around dealing enormous amounts of damage and having enough sustain to stay in the battle without having to disengage to heal up, because I saw a video of Rhykker with this exact build and he had to leave combat in order to survive quite often in higher level rifts. I am currently running the Wrath of the Wastes Whirlwind barb but it seems not to deal enough damage, and I kinda got bored from just spinning around. Can you please recommend a barb build that follows the aforementioned requirements. Thanks a lot in advance!

Unfortunately, it sounds like you're looking for what I'd call a unicorn build. The perfect build that can survive without leaving combat, deal loads of damage and all round do what we all want: clear rifts without trouble.

The answer that you're looking for depends on the rifts you're attempting, as well as whether you want to play solo or not. Let me know and I can try suggest a build.

Well I'm definitely looking for a solo build, mainly GRifts, and I want a ridiculous crit damage build hahaha I know a unicorn build is not something you can simply get by asking, but any suggestions on a very high crit damage build suitable for clearing Grifts(other than WW builds) would be great. Thanks very much for the swift reply.

I think your best bet would be the Raekor/IK Furious Charge build. Give it a go and let me know what you think!

Hah, as Blainie pointed out there isn't a build out there that 'does it all' with no downsides, but we can still recommend something. :) I would personally go for the Frenzy Thorns build ( https://www.icy-veins.com/d3/barbarian-frenzy-thorns-build-with-the-legacy-of-nightmares-set-patch-2-4-2-season-7 ), as it is easily the most durable of all current Barb builds while outputting very competitive damage (and looking quite cool while doing it, imo). Its downside is that it is by far the hardest build to gear for, requiring very specific items and rolls. While gathering the necessary pieces for it, I'd probably stick to this Earthquake build, as I find it more pleasant than the Raekor or Whirlwind alternatives.

I would imagine that the toughness and survivability offered by the other stats is far more useful than some bonus damage. You already roll for a High Damage range on the weapon as your first priority, so it's most likely just Deadset trying to balance the build. It sucks when builds do lots of damage, but die a lot.

I'm sure he can offer more insight in case there is some other reason.

Stat balancing is indeed the reason, and it can be a tricky thing. I tend to lean on the side of caution, especially for melee builds, and because I try to make the guides hardcore-friendly too. Note that healing is also hard to come by, and is recommended as one of the weapon's rolls (Life per Fury Spent), making a % damage roll an even harder inclusion.

You can certainly go Strength / % Damage / Area Damage if you mostly intend to speedrun with  a weapon though,

It seems something went very wrong with Season 33, as it it just... ended a while ago. Players took to the forums as there was no early warning, other than a server message around an hour before it all ended. PezRadar responded clarifying that this is not intended and that Blizzard are looking into what happened.
      Season End (Source)
Heard and got some pings while I’ve been out and I have production checking on this early end. This shouldn’t have ended today so something is funky. Will provide an update once I hear back.

Let’s see what the demons say when you fight side by side with your own shadow! Shadows of the Past: Activating a Shrine/Pylon will spawn in a shadow clone of your class, who will come with a randomly chosen 1 of 3 predetermined builds. This clone's power will scale with your character and will last for 1 minute (unless your character dies). See this article for the shadow clone variations that can spawn when activating. Kanai’s Cube: Kanai’s Cube will have a fourth slot this season. This fourth slot will have the choices of the first 3 slots but will not stack with any of them, providing additional flexibility to your build. Return to Top Season Cosmetic Rewards
Beginning with Season 17, we began re-introducing previous Seasonal rewards to make them available to any who may have missed them the first time around. For Season 33, this means awards originally available from Season 9 are returning to the Season Journey. However, we know it’s nice to have something new to aim for if you’ve already participated in previous Seasons. We’re continuing to provide new End of Journey rewards as introduced in Season 17, with two new cosmetic rewards for those who complete the entirety of the Season journey. Prove your worth in the Trial of Tempests to earn the Stupendous Contraption pet and the Industrial Portrait Frame.
In addition to the Chest and Gloves slots of the exclusive Conqueror Set, you’ll be able to earn the Pandemonium portraits, and the cute and craggily Rocky pet first introduced in Season 9. Return to Top Season Journey Rewards

Want to prepare your Conquest plan for Season 33? Here are the challenges you’ll face: For Curses!/Stars Align, pick any Cursed Chest event that requires killing monsters and defeat over 350 or more at level 70 on Torment X or higher. Also returning for Season 33 is Sprinter/Speed Racer, where you’re challenged to complete the entire Diablo III campaign from Act I to Act V at Level 70 in under an hour! Next is Avarice/Avaritia, where all that glitters is gold—that is, if you can complete a 50 million Gold streak outside of The Vault or its Inner Sanctum. We're also bringing Thrill/Superhuman, which requires completion of a Greater Rift Level 45—solo and without any Set items equipped. And lastly we'll be bringing back Speed Demon/Need for Speed, meaning you'll need to beat a Torment X Nephalem Rift at Level 70 in 2 minutes. Best of luck! Return to Top Haedrig’s Gift
