Leap/Earthquake Barbarian

I've been tinkering with this build a bit... the mess I've made can be seen here. ;)

What I'm wondering is why the 300% WW bonus from the skull grasp doesn't show up on my details screen under offense? All I see is the 15% from my boots.

Fwiw, this current tweak of the build has proven interesting. T13 rifts, bounties and 62 GRs are cake. Which isn't awful considering only one augment, not all ancient, and fairly poor rolls on most of the gear.

Will leave this for @Deadset to give his opinion on! I'm not quite good enough to be passing judgement :p

Thanks for this build. Really impressive, and so fun to play. T3 to T13 in 6 days, pretty happy :D

- Why the Dread Iron belt ? I don't see ground stomp in the build...

- Are Focus and Restraint 50% bonus cumulative ? And it seems the bonus doesn't show in the stats... or am I reading wrong ?

- Maybe it's because that I'm playing only in GR60-65, but I was not fully satisfied with the Furnace. However when I switched to In-Geom, I could literally spam Threatening shout. So after an elite pack you could jump like a maniac for 10 sec, with Avalanche and Earthquake continually beeing trigerred. So with enough luck you could go quickly from an elite pack to another, while killing everything in your path. What do you think ?

This is a mistake, I believe. Will let the writers know.

If both buffs are active, you get a 2.25x damage multiplier.

At lower rift levels, this can definitely work. The problem is, you don't always have elite packs, there is running time etc. You can be in a position where your In-geom does absolutely nothing for 85% of the rift. Also remember that it does nothing to the rift guardian.

See above for an answer to this :) I didn't know it had a damage increase to Avalanche!

It seems the damage increase doesn't show on the armoury tooltip, unless I'm blind :(

First, thanks Deadset for these excellent, well written guides--they are a genuine asset to this community--sorry if that sounds corny but it's true!

Until getting hooked on the seasons concept in S7, I've been a casual Diablo fan until now so forgive me if this is a dumb question.  Was there a nerf to this build in the last couple months?  Looking at the non-season leaderboard, I see that leap/eq is on top, but the run was back in August.  It seems like all of the RECENT runs on the top of the leaderboard are either furious charge/IK or frenzy/thorns.  I didn't think there have been any updates since then so what's up with that?

I was strongly considering leap/eq for S8, but has it fallen from favor?...otherwise, why hasn't anyone been pushing higher rifts with this build since August?

Anyway, I want to go Barbarian again in S8, but I was furious charge/IK last season and I'm looking for a change.

Thanks again Deadset for the great guides!

It might have just been much easier to itemise for at the start of the season - I'm not 100% sure though.

Thanks for the reply Blainie...I'm referring to the non-season leaderboard.  At the time of my post, leap/eq held the top 2 spots with runs way back in mid august.  If raekors/IK is better for high GR, why did it take so long to over take it?  Also, with 2 months for gem leveling, more augments, etc., wouldn't those same leap/eq players have had the chance to improve their runs?

Anyway, this was leading me to wonder if there wasn't some kind of "mini nerf" on leap/eq to explain that.

Thanks again

Completely mis-read and missed the non-season part, I'm really sorry.

Raekor's/IK is better for group play, since Barbs generally fill much more supporting roles. I believe our recommendations of GRift potential is focused entirely on group play, rather than solo.

Also, remember that those that nailed the top ranks might have just got a perfect rift, basically. Rift fishing is 75% of the battle towards getting rank 1, honestly.

Heya! There were no nerfs to the Leapquake playstyle. The slow creep of Raekor/IK that you have observed is due to the fact that it excels at fishing, and will do massive damage in the right circumstances. Raekor will fail a great deal of its attempts (hence the slow creep), but it will beat Leapquake on the top end. On average though, MotE builds are more reliable and will see more rifts through.

High ranking players recognize the Raekor potential, and thus you see them at the top of the charts. Just casually looking through the EU leaderboards, I spotted a 91 clear in S7 by Luterro, done on October 10th. No changes/nerfs have been made to the build in S7 or 8.

Hi !
I'm using a build slightly different, whereas I used yours as a base.
Instead of threatening shout, I use Ground slam to refresh my cooldowns. I use this rotation : Leap (3 times) --> Boulder toss --> Ground stomp --> Boulder toss. After the second boulder toss, I spent enough rage to entierly reset leap's CD, and Ground stomp is reseted after another Boulder toss.
So far it works quite well, I cleaning 65 GR without any problem. I'll try higher soon.

How often can you maintain the stun? I would imagine, at higher GRifts, you'll really be missing that 20% damage reduction, especially at 80+, given that it will most likely have much higher uptime than the stun from Ground Stomp.

Hi, thanks for the guide. I was wondering what paragon lvl I should be in order to do gr90+ with this build.

I already have all ancient items and good rolls, currently paragon 700 and maximum gr69 difficulty achieved.

Thx in advance, Tomas.

Given that only 250-300 or so people have cleared GR90 on non-seasonal, I would imagine that paragon level isn't the deciding factor. If you're referring to our suggestion of 90+ in the build list, that refers to group play.

To answer your question though, just aim for as much as possible. Obviously being above 1,000 paragon is a solid boost over being at 800, but paragon alone won't get you to GR90.

All in all, this build's entire guide needs a re-write, top to bottom:

1) An explanation regarding Dread Iron - from what it used to be to what it is, and where this hidden 200% Avalanche damage boost is located.

2) The triple Leap, while in the very first sentence, isn't referenced as to HOW until the absolute end in the Kanai list.  While it may be "old hat" to some long-time Barbarian players... somebody new to the Wild & Hairy lifestyle might be (justifiably) confused.

3) Likewise, Girdle of Giants is an odd choice... as it's activator ability is not included in the base build (Seismic Slam).

... I'm sure I'm missing some other bits that have been addressed throughout this thread, but it is worth a serious once through by the author.  Try to remember not everyone reading these is as unthinkably awesome as y'all are and might, on occasion, need it dumbed down for them just a few steps. :)

I'd like to ask about Dread Iron - is it in the build "only" for its Avalanche multiplier, even though we're not taking Ground Stomp in active skills?

I've noticed some new features on the site, Seismic Slam is included in the Solo Progression Alternative "tab" (there are three buttons just at the start of the guide: Solo Progression, Solo Progression Alternative, Speedruns. Clicking on each displays different skills)

For the first point about Dread Iron, coming from the start build from fresh 70 we were using Stomp. So either he forgot about it and put it in this build by mistake or there's another way to use the build and he forgot to mention it. Namely, get rid of Wrath of Beserkers and replace with Ground Stomp with wrenching smash as the rune. I've found success with this variation so far. The rotation goes Leap x1 -> activate Battle Rage -> Leap x1 -> activate Threatening Shout (can be done mid-air) -> Leap x1 -> Boulder Toss -> Ground Stomp -> (if EQ off CD activate here) -> Boulder Toss -> back into Leap rotation. This rotation works by using Ground Stomp to allow you to quickly reset leap and get more damage off with Boulder Toss.  Ground Stomp with the Wrenching Smash rune will ensure you pull enemies into your Belt-assisted Avalanche, as well as, provide an additional stun in the rotation if for some reason you get caught without a leap to save you. Although you lose the 50% damage increase that you would get from Beserker's with Insanity rune, it's much more survivable until you get more CDR. IF you can reset Leap from just one boulder toss then by all means take Wrath of the Beserker instead. All in All, its a much safer build that still hits like truck with the items mentioned in the build. Also, in the cube I don't have The Furnace yet so I'm using The Three-hundredth Spear instead. Gives a 60% damage boost to Boulder Toss and combo's well with Skular's Salvation, pretty nice to have. Hope that helps!

This mishap is actually caused by a tooltip error. It doesn't list the Avalanche damage boost, instead showing it simply as one of the magic properties that can roll, rather than a guaranteed one.

It is only referenced later due to the fact that it only applies when you have the Lut Socks available in the cube. Without them, you can't do it. I'll see if we can add a note about it.

Quoting from the guide:

Quote

For the Seismic Slam Seismic Slam variation however, it is necessary to swap into Girdle of Giants Girdle of Giants for its Earthquake Earthquake damage amplification.

Hopefully this clears up a bit.

The set you receive depends on the class of the character you’re playing when you open each Haedrig’s Gift. To collect a full Class Set, you’ll need to open all three on the same character. In this season, Haedrig's Gift will grant all-new class sets introduced with previous Seasons.

It seems something went very wrong with Season 33, as it it just... ended a while ago. Players took to the forums as there was no early warning, other than a server message around an hour before it all ended. PezRadar responded clarifying that this is not intended and that Blizzard are looking into what happened.
      Season End (Source)
Heard and got some pings while I’ve been out and I have production checking on this early end. This shouldn’t have ended today so something is funky. Will provide an update once I hear back.

Kanai’s Cube: Kanai’s Cube will have a fourth slot this season. This fourth slot will have the choices of the first 3 slots but will not stack with any of them, providing additional flexibility to your build. Return to Top Season Cosmetic Rewards
Beginning with Season 17, we began re-introducing previous Seasonal rewards to make them available to any who may have missed them the first time around. For Season 33, this means awards originally available from Season 9 are returning to the Season Journey. However, we know it’s nice to have something new to aim for if you’ve already participated in previous Seasons. We’re continuing to provide new End of Journey rewards as introduced in Season 17, with two new cosmetic rewards for those who complete the entirety of the Season journey. Here are the challenges you’ll face: For Curses!/Stars Align, pick any Cursed Chest event that requires killing monsters and defeat over 350 or more at level 70 on Torment X or higher. Also returning for Season 33 is Sprinter/Speed Racer, where you’re challenged to complete the entire Diablo III campaign from Act I to Act V at Level 70 in under an hour! Next is Avarice/Avaritia, where all that glitters is gold—that is, if you can complete a 50 million Gold streak outside of The Vault or its Inner Sanctum. We're also bringing Thrill/Superhuman, which requires completion of a Greater Rift Level 45—solo and without any Set items equipped. And lastly we'll be bringing back Speed Demon/Need for Speed, meaning you'll need to beat a Torment X Nephalem Rift at Level 70 in 2 minutes. Best of luck! Return to Top Haedrig’s Gift
Finally, the Class Sets rewarded for completing certain chapters in the Season Journey courtesy of Haedrig’s Gift have rotated once more. We’ve listed the available Sets below. While the focal point of the 2.7.8 PTR is to test technical updates for Mac, we want PC users to monitor their playing experience as well. If you experience any stability issues or difficulties in connecting with Mac players, please give us that feedback. Return to Top

Here's a preview of Season 33 and Patch 2.7.8 that will soon be available for testing on the PTR.
      Shades of Nephalem Theme
In the latest Diablo III Season, the Shades of Nephalem season theme marks a return. Activating a Shrine or Pylon will spawn in a shadow clone of your class. The clone's power wil scale with your character and last for one minute or until death.

      Fourth Kanai's Cube Slot
In addition to the season theme, Kanai's Cube will have an additional fourth slot.

      Season 33 Start?
We expect Season 33 to start in late September/early October 2024.
      PTR Testing
Patch 2.7.8 will be available for testing for one week. Initially, Blizzard planned to test out the patch from September 17 through September 24, but they ran into some unexpected issues and testing has been delayed. New Mac executables for Silicon and Intel chips will be available in this build, as revealed by Blizzard.
