First Non-Dragon Dragonriding Mount, Fire Owl in Action (Video)

Recommended Posts

Clipboard01.jpg

Blizzard announced that we'd be getting our first non-dragon/dragonkin Dragonriding mount with patch 10.2. It will drop from Fyrakk Mythic in the Amirdrassil raid it's a shiny Fire Owl! We saw the image of it in the patch reveal video, but now we get to see it in action with some Dragonriding animations as well!

That really looks great and gives us a glimpse at how other mounts might look with the Dragonriding animations. Obviously this one has wings so there's still plenty of issues with getting all mounts updated to Dragonriding, but it's a start!

If it's not a dragon, then you're not "dragon" riding.

That said, I'll be glad to get to the next xpac if it means dragon riding is no longer a thing.

then you wont be glad at all cause we might lose the word dragonriding but the new system will come with us to the next xpac

As someone who in other lands is a Sentinel Owl, I'm looking forward to this meaning all class-mounts from Legion get the dragonride treatment.

Horrible idea. Restricting mount movement to abilities and gating it around a ridiculous energy system make zero sense. If it is to be a separate option from regular mounts, sure, sounds great. But applying restrictions to mounts that have always been open is not okay.

We'll see then. I don't care if dragonriding stays, I just don't want it taking over regular flying mounts. I like regular flying over dragonriding because it isn't restricted. Imo, dragonriding sucks, and if it does replace regular flying then that would be the end for me and WoW honestly.

How would that even work? Some mounts don't even have wings, they also have different model skeleton. This would look weird with something that doesn't resemble a dragon. In many ways dragonriding system can be way slower than regular flying, especially when you are flying around collecting some resources, small treasures etc. For example, having to constantly fly up and down then stop means you quickly deplete your vigor and have to wait a lot for it to regenerate.

It's also a bad idea, because suddenly the way these mounts work would change. There are a lot of people who never signed up for this type of gameplay. They would suddenly have no choice. In addition, there are people with various disabilities who were fine playing with previous flying system, because it didn't require any agility, but suddenly they can no longer play this way. I would add that this game has several issues with mobility creep/arcadey stuff being added, like movement mechanics of demon hunters and evokers.

You seem to have it upside down.

Blizz is saying that in 10.2 people will...

  1. have "dragonriding" on many, many more mount types (these are in datamine/pre-PTR status now)
  2. have "swim-through-sky standard flight" on regular mounts for the Pathfinder they plan to add
  3. have a toggle option for it (this has been discussed as Accessibility, toggle)

I have no idea how you got the redonkulous idea that swim/flight the old slow way was going to impair your regular dragonmount

and you already are impaired (edit to add: completely impaired, as in, they cannot be summoned) for any old world mounts (including "class mounts" earned in Legion xpac content) on the Dragon Isles at all.   Plus, they do not really count as "time gated" and "anyone could have them".

Quite the opposite I was trying to say, about bloody time people can get some new power on old mounts they busted (ahem) their tailfeathers for.

I'm provisionally willing to grant that a new flight system that wasn't accessible to all was a less than perfect idea but it clearly excited many folks so we're stuck with it now, and that has zero to do with achieve taxing to get other powers.

I am viciously and vehemently agreeing with you;  I paid for dragonflight the xpac, and my hands have been paying the price for its flight style ever since.

They already lack this choice.

Blizz is making noise that they'll introduce the choice, and pardon the bird reference but I really hope they don't chicken out on it.

TL;DR I am looking forward to many more types of mount being usable in The Dragon Isles.

I am VERY MUCH looking forward to "normal flight mode" coming to the Dragon Isles in a form that isn't a single model while I'm flying as a corpse back to my body.

Jesus christ you use a lot of words to say nothing at all.

Adding dragonriding to any regular mount is a slap in the face to people that earned those mounts. We earned our "regular" mounts before dragonriding was even an idea. The thought that they will not be able to be free flying, and instead be confined to the dragonriding system, is what is "redonkulous". Dragonriding is a horrible system and makes seemingly simple tasks, such as farming ore and herbs, a pain in the backside. Flying long distances requires careful use of vigor or you end up landing to regen. Additionally, you must constantly "man" your mount with dragonriding, whereas regular mounts can be put on auto-run, pointed toward your destination, and left to fly with no interaction.

The whole system lends itself well to a novelty, but it should not be propagated throughout the game as the primary means of self-guided travel.

The claim is it'll be an option.  Optional is good.  Optional means you can turn it off.   That's... a thing you want, isn't it???

The desire from a lot of players is, we have hundreds of mounts, but for months have been stuck on anywhere between 3 and 6.

I'm sure the gold farmers with their /follow on flight are looking forward to all this too.

We have another triple entry in the hotfix ledger, as Radiant Echoes gets more improvements in retail, while Season of Discovery and Cata Classic get additional class changes.
       August 7  (Source)
      Player-characters
Steady Flight should no longer be removed after entering an Arena. Quests
We tuned up the Prototype Shredder MK-03 so that “Eye for an Eye” can be completed. Radiant Echoes Event
Increased Flightstone and upgrade Crest drop rates in the event. Reduced the HP scaling on all event bosses so that they should be killable in a more-reasonable timeframe. Developers’ notes: This includes both ‘minibosses’ (e.g. Hogger, Thorim) and final bosses (e.g. Remembered Onyxia, Ragnaros). Season of Discovery
Hunter Heart of the Lion once again has a 100 yard range. Warrior The Focused Rage rune will now correctly reduce the cost of Meathook by 3. Cataclysm Classic
Fixed an issue where Faerie Fire did not deal intended amounts of threat when used on NPCs targeting another unit.

Due to a bug introduced with the War Within pre-patch, some players are receiving item level 250 gear from the weekly cache.
We've seen numerous reports on Reddit and the official forums that the Last Hurrah weekly quest on live servers drop low-level gear for some players. Apparently, the bug was first introduced with the War Within pre-patch two weeks ago and still hasn't been fixed.
Here's an example of a low item level drop from the Cache of Awakened Treasures by Omnifox.

Week 2 brings quite a few changes, as Hunters in particular rise up, while Shadow has a really bad time. The top 3 remains the same and very consistent, so let's jump in and see what's going on.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top 3 remains quite stable with the Evoker-Paladin-Warrior trio reigning supreme. We see the first change of the week right after that though, as Frost DK continues its upward march in dungeons as well as in raids, taking 4th from Elemental. Both DKs are on the rise, as Unholy also moves a spot up, taking advantage of Shadow's precipitous 5-spot fall to the bottom of the top 10. Arms remains stable as two Hunters burst in, Beast Mastery taking 8th and Marksmanship 9th, as Frost Mage disappears down towards the bottom. Speaking of the bottom, Devastation gets some new roommates there, as Outlaw and Destruction fall and give Enhancement and Feral a break.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
As with the top percentiles, the top 3 remains solid, but 4th is immediately changed, thanks to Shadow's massive drop in performance this week. The Priest loses even more ground here, falling 9 spots into 13th, opening 4th up for Arms. Beast Mastery moves even higher here, grabbing 5th and moving in front of Elemental and Frost DK, as Marksmanship brings up the rear and completes the Hunter sandwich in 8th. Affliction breaks into the top 10, just ahead of Unholy which dropped to the final spot.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
Frost DK finds itself on top in the raw DPS rankings, as Augmentation isn't calculated properly here. Fury and Arms grab the next two spots, moving ahead of Ret, and the Fyr'alath wins continue in 5th, where Unholy finished the legendary axe streak. Even Survival joins the Hunter good times in 8th, where all three specs gather, just ahead of Balance who closes out the top 10.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides (updated for the pre-patch), as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

MoP Remix characters that will transfer over to retail will receive a gear boost!
With Patch 11.0.2 now live on Public Test Realms, you can copy over MoP Remix characters from retail! It appears all MoP Remix characters will receive a character boost so you can dive straight into action when the War Within expansion launches.

We can't unfortunately log in to the game with the MoP Remix char on the PTR so we can't confirm the Item Level of gear for max level characters. However, keep in mind that the gear boost will scale with your level, so if you're below max cap, you will receive gear appropriate to your current level.
When Can We Expect MoP Remix Characters to Transfer to Retail?
MoP Remix ends on August 19, so we assume the characters will need to be transferred to retail by August 22 when Early Access begins.
