Storm

A serious question about strategic planning

Recommended Posts

Ok, not nearly as dramatic as my title implies, but I got you to open it.

Does anyone know what time WoD will be released on 11-13-14? I have exactly 2 vacation days left to take this year, and I'm thinking I'll probably just take them for leveling. If warlords goes live at Midnight then I'm thinking I'll take Thursday+Friday off, but if it's going to be something like scheduled maintenance then expansion is live around 11am PST, I'd probably make better use of my time taking Friday + Monday off.

I did a little bit of searching and couldn't find anything, just wondering if anyone else knows anything about it.

Funny when people say midnight 11-13-14, you wonder if the content will be available for the whole day (as in start playing 00h01 that day)

Just before the cata and mop launch, the realm gave the 15 minute restart warning, and when they came back online, the content was available.

Here is the official MoP release date/time:

Wonder if WoD will be the same.

EDIT: More news: Patch 6.0.3 -> http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/15007171227

I don't know how it was on EU servers, but Russian servers were unplayable on the day of the MoP release. Too many people, lags and disconnects, and starting quests didn't work for some reason. Even if the game is playable at the WoD launch, it will still probably be overcrowded beyond any tolerance, and there will be like 5 people per one quest mob. I'm not sure you want to participate in it at all costs, so if I were you, I'd skip first few days.

That's a good point too, I have like 2 1/2 weeks until mythic raiding, and realm first 100 achievements have been removed, so there's no point rushing. Maybe I should take Monday+Tuesday off the week after release to maximize how much I can get done instead of rushing to 100 with a thousand other people around.

Its been a long time but I remember MoP was better than Cata - we had people gaining the realm first cooking achievement before others had even been able to login (sucked for a lot of people who had spent weeks getting those cooking tokens and mats to not even have a shot due to server login issues).

With there being no realm firsts etc and with the gated opening of raids etc I would take the Friday + Monday

The problem with using limited days off, or otherwise making special plans, is that it greatly increases the chance for high frustration if there are technical problems.

Blizzard's track record is mixed. MoP launch was mostly playable, iirc. By contrast, D3 launch was mostly or completely unplayable, at least for large numbers of players. 6.0.2 was not a complete bust but had many problems for many players.

Think how you're going to feel if it turns out you can't play for most of the day. If you'll just end up having fun doing something else, great. But if you know you'll end up feeling really angry that you traded off your chance to do something else amazing that now you won't be able to do either, my $0.02 is -- not worth the risk.
