Dawntrail - Zones and Battle Content
Final Fantasy XIV's next major expansion is set to launch in summer 2024. Dawntrail will add many new features and content to the game, such as new zones, areas, dungeons, raids, and other battle content. Let's have a look at what Tural has to offer, as well as a glimpse at the new combat updates!

New Zones and Areas:

Dawntrail will introduce a brand-new continent: Tural. A visitor from the far west came to seek the Warrior of Light's help in a Rite of Succession that will determine Tural's next ruler. Our heroes are on their way to the grandest summer vacation they have ever had!

Dawntrail Map.jpg

You can see here that Tural will be an extremely vast continent that we will get to explore fully.

As we already know, the brand-new player hub will be Tuliyollal, which will serve as a literal bridge connecting the north and south parts of the continent of Tural.

However, there is one extremely intriguing zone that has been revealed, that has a distinct look compared to the rest of Tural we have seen so far. It is another town that will serve as the second hub for players, and it is called Solution Nine

Solution Nine.jpg

We did not get too much information, as they don't want to spoil us, but we know that it is a city of towering facades constructed by an entirely different civilization than that of Tuliyollal. All the new areas are very intriguing and beautiful, and will be a joy to explore and discover once Dawntrail launches!

New Dungeons and Raids:

Of course, Dawntrail will also add new dungeons and raids, and we got to see a sneak peek of some of them. Yoshida assured us that the progress on the new dungeons is going very well, and that they will be able to show more in the future.

The new alliance raid was also announced. It will be an FFXI collaboration, and it is called Echoes of Vana'Diel. We even got to see the Shadow Lord artwork. More details will be given during future PLLs, but we know that it will be coming for 7.1!

Echoes of Vanadiel.jpg

Of course, after the alliance raid, we also got information on the brand new 8-player raid called The Arcadion. It seems to take place in an extremely futuristic new location. New characters will come with the raid, and the story itself will be a complete FFXIV original. Normal mode and savage mode will be available in sequence about one month after 7.0, so players will not feel rushed.

The Arcadion.jpg

Another good surprise we got during the keynote was the announcement of the new ultimate raid, which will be themed around part of the story of Eden, with Ryne and Gaia from patch 5.4: Futures Rewritten Ultimate. The release is planned for 7.1.

You can take a look at all of the new areas, dungeons and raids through different videos on the official Final Fantasy XIV YouTube channel or by watching the Day 1 + Keynote video.

Other Battle Content:

In addition to the new dungeons and raids, Dawntrail will also offer other types of battle content for players to enjoy. These include:

  • New Allies
  • Level cap increased to 100, Job updates, New abilities and spells for each existing Job
  • Core Battle content for 7.0: New Fates, Hunts, Treasure Hunts, Quest-Synced Sidequests
  • New threats: Bosses and New interesting monsters such as the Barreltender

  • Duty support updates: Krile will make the duty support debut as Pictomancer.
  • Ongoing content updates: Blue Mage update, Inconceivably Further Hilibrand Adventures, new plans for deep Dungeons, Gold Saucer update, PvP update, new variant Dungeons.
  • Field Operations: something similar to Eureka and Bozja will be implemented during 7.x.
  • A new Lifestyle Content called The Cosmic Exploration, which should be leading us into various locations. Moreover: we will be able to explore it in multiplayer!

So far, Dawntrail is definitely living up to the hype, and it will bring a lot of new and exciting content to Final Fantasy XIV! Players will get to explore the new continent of Tural and face new challenges, new enemies in new dungeons, raids, and other battle content. The expansion will also introduce new allies, new jobs, new abilities, and new lifestyle content. Summer 2024 can't come quick enough, as we are all eagerly awaiting the start of our next adventure!

This banner is everything - and I can't wait to go to bed tonight and dream about stuffing a hefty butterfinger into jacktuars (jacked cactuar's) mouth, whilst sitting on its spikey uber-muscular body. Ah. The dream.

In all seriousness: so cool that there's a butterfinger collab. They're notoriously known to do things together with Final Fantasy /Square Enix and it's nice to see that this tradition continues. ♥

Yoshi-P revealed plans at Gamescom 2024 for more challenging content in FFXIV, including a new raid in the upcoming Dawntrail patch and hints of a 24-Man Savage Raid.
During Gamescom 2024, PCGames.com interviewed Naoki Yoshida, who revealed that he plans to make combat more difficult. Dawntrail has already experienced big improvements in that regard, with more distinct mechanics and designs, and Yoshi-P hopes to keep that momentum going in the future.
The upcoming patch of FFXIV will include the Dawntrail Alliance Raid, and Yoshi-P has also mentioned a 24-player Savage Raid! His plan is to continuously create more diverse dungeons and raids, to always challenge players with new mechanics, and to force us to develop new fighting strategies.
The upcoming alliance raid will have standard difficulty, but Yoshi-P is convinced that groups will wipe at least three times on their first run! The idea was not to make it harder, but rather to give a more engaging experience for raiders.
Not much was mentioned about the savage version, although he did suggest that the boss will be completely different. So, potentially entirely separate content? It is also possible that the savage alliance raid will be linked to a new instance similar to Bozja, which would explain the boss being different from the actual normal alliance raid.
Further details about this will be delivered soon, as both the normal Alliance raid and the savage one will release with 7.1! This patch will also welcome the new Ultimate Raid!

It's been a few months, and many players have shared their feedback and thoughts on how Dawntrail measures up to previous expansions. Let's take a look at the general opinion!
A few months after release, plenty of players have shared feedback and comments on how the expansion is: have they appreciated it or not? How was the story? How are the dungeons? Here is all you need to know about Dawntrail ranks when compared to prior Final Fantasy XIV expansions!
Dawntrail, the latest and current expansion for Final Fantasy XIV, has received extremely mixed reviews. Similar to Stormblood, it seems to be a situation of “you either love it or you hate it." Some players appreciate its story, new content, mechanics, and cultural themes; others feel it falls short compared to previous expansions like Endwalker and Shadowbringers, which was to be expected.
As the following Reddit thread shows, the expansion ranks overall lower than previous ones:
The low ranking could be due to a few different reasons:
Story and pacing issues: It seems that a large portion of players have complained about the reuse of too many similar plot elements from previous expansions. The pacing of the MSQ has been quite uneven, especially in the second half. Character development: Many players wish that our own characters would be more at the center of attention. Erenville and Krile’s story is not the center of the plot in the second part. After Wuk Lamat becomes the new ruler of Tuliyollal, she should have stayed there while we investigate further with Erenville and Krile. Both of those characters have mostly completed their stories off-screen, and players would have loved to be able to be a part of that.  Weak Villains: Both Zoraal Ja and Sphene do not really come off as villains and are way less iconic than the previous villains we know. Gameplay: There are many players who have complained about the lack of evolution in the gameplay and jobs. Lack of difficulty: while the dungeons and raids are introducing new mechanics, they remain quite easy, and players are asking for more challenges. Jobs are being made too easy to play. Rather than changing the jobs to make them more unique and refresh their gameplay, they have all been modified to remove what may have made them interesting in the first place, and a lot of players have been feeling sad about this. Of course, Dawntrail may not be perfect, but a lot of players have still enjoyed it and have given a lot of positive feedback:
Story: Although it is rather slow in some moments, for the players who have been reading and actively following the story, it all makes sense towards the end, and it is an amazing start to a brand-new journey! Despite some characters lacking story and being put to the side, it is refreshing to follow new friends and find out more about them! Gameplay: A lot of players have been praising the new mechanics and risks the FFXIV team has been taking for this expansion! The dungeons have been rather innovative, and the raid is extremely fun to go through, despite being less challenging. In the end, the biggest issue with Dawntrail may have been the high expectations a lot of players have had. After such amazing and big expansions like Shadowbringer and Endwalker, it was hard to not expect something of such high quality. However, meeting or exceeding those expectations was a tough challenge. The two previous expansions set a very high bar regarding storytelling, character development, and gameplay. So in a way, it is natural that this time, things have been less exciting for a lot of players.
Yes, Dawntrail introduces new and exciting elements to Final Fantasy XIV, but it seems to struggle with living up to the legacy of prior expansions; nevertheless, after completing the story, the game continues to live up to what made it such an iconic series. Dawntrail is as much part of Final Fantasy XIV as its predecessors, and it simply paves the way for more exciting adventures to come!
