Mage WoD - Dungeon - Heroic Dungeon Spec ?

Hello,

 

Im new here and back for WoD. Im talking to anyone i know and i cant get a straight answer to a single question or rather two of them

 

1. What is the best spec for single target ? (currently testing arcane)

 

2. What is the best spec for AOE DPS? (currently testing arcane)

 

I dont need to know about utility, spec that is good for moving and so on. Please just highest DPS numbers spec. Also take into consideration please that i got only acces to WoD gear. No old Tier gear for set bonuses only straight up WoD gear. My current iLVL is 601. Ofcourse im talking only about dungeon DPS no PVP.

I was testing Arcane as well (Main arcane on SoO), but I wasn't able to do damage at all...

I'm a Frost main, and it's playing quite well in dungeons, especially for AoE with Freeze+Ice Nova, Frozen Orb and Comet Storm all being able to be cast quickly in sequence for a large amount of burst AoE.

 

Considering the amount of movement involved to avoid damage as well, Frost excels at this with the Brain Freeze and Fingers of Frost procs meaning movement doesn't overly hamper DPS.

 

Arcane is good for single target if you're able to stay stationary for long enough to get the rotation going.

 

At your gear level, there wouldn't be enough crit to make Fire overly viable.

 

Best bet, stack Multistrike and roll Frost.

Frost with PC + Ice Nova + Incanter's flow for trash, MI for bosses. 

 

For challenge modes, I just run MI. You can minmax even more by making 2 frost specs, one with MI and one with incanter's flow, and swap when needed. (You can swap spec, but not talents in CM) Ive only been doing dailies so far so I'm not 100% minmaxing for it, but we're 1 shotting bronze/silver quite easily with that.

To take Frost Bomb, you lose Ice Nova. Unless you've got Frozen Orb out generating FoF procs, I've found Frost Bomb to be quite underwhelming as far as damage goes, especially compared to Ice Nova.

I've found the exact oposite. With Frost Bomb and PC one out of every 3 packs get's completely decimated. I am even considering running 2 Frost Mages with that combo, and pulling bigtime.

Don't bother with Fire, it's absolute garbage. Even the sims put it below some tank specs in dungeon gear and as the lowest DPS spec in mythic gear, and I see no reason to doubt that with how revolting my DPS is when I've tried it.

 

Frost is the spec to play for now.

Hmm, now I'm intrigued. I'll start coupling it with PC a bit more and see what happens then.

Do you cast Frost Bomb on the PC or on a mob?  For trash pulls I'm thinking a rotation something like this -

 

Frost Bomb

Fozen Orb or Freeze

Prismatic Crystal

At 2 charges of FoF - Ice Lance -> Prismatic Crystal

If < 5 targets Frost Bolt -> Prismatic Crystal, if >= 5 targets Blizzard

At 2 charges of FoF - Ice Lance -> Prismatic Crystal

Right now, in heroic gear, I feel like FoF doesn't proc enough for FB, but maybe I'm just unlucky, I've been attempting to get as much multistrike as possible. I feel like the Ice Nova burst has been a much more reliable dps increase. I'd love some feedback as to increasing the FoF procs, I use frozen orb and water jet everytime they're off CD, not sure what I else I can do

I've decided I don't like Frost Bomb, and I like PC even less.  They're not fun mechanically.

 

I really miss Living Bomb and Invocation.  :(

Actually Frost Bomb and PC are the most interesting ones mechanically. You might not like them, so say you don't think they are fun. But mechanically the make Frost incredibly more complex than without.

You can even swap spec's whilst moving if you use Ice Floes.

Thats exactly what im doing. Just for Aoe and Single target, (on those who don't need to be moved all the time). Prismatic crystal, casting Frost bomb on it, then Frozen Orb. Then spamming Ice lances like crazy. And, actually, this works pretty well.
