Over 69,000 players have participated in the mid-cycle balance survey of Last Epoch. In this article, we have a look at the survey results as well as the game's mid-cycle updates and bug fixes.

Eleventh Hour Games recently conducted a mid-cycle balance survey, which led a large number of players to discuss in-game balance changes. In total, the survey received responses from over 69,000 people, providing the EHG team with valuable community feedback.

Here is a summary of the results and future plans for Last Epoch based on the survey results:

Addressing Overperformance Due to Bugs

  • Overperformance: A substantial majority, over 74%, agreed that bugs leading to significant overperformance should be addressed through mid-cycle patches. The EHG team plans to implement fixes accordingly.
  • Mild Overperformance: Opinions were divided on handling mild overperformance related to bugs, largely due to the subjective nature of "mild overperformance". EHG stated that they will evaluate such cases individually, considering future community feedback and the overall impact on gameplay.

Balancing Non-Bug Related Overperformance

  • Overperformance: The majority, over 57%, is against mid-cycle nerfs for builds that are not bug-related but still highly overperform. Aligning with player sentiment, EHG will avoid non-bug-related balance changes in such cases.
  • Mild Overperformance: Similarly, the community largely voted against mid-cycle adjustments for mildly overperforming skills or items. EHG said they will respect this stance and refrain from making changes in these instances.

Leaderboard Resets and Notifications

  • Leaderboard Resets: Players were divided on resetting leaderboards after nerfs due to bug fixes or balancing changes. After careful consideration, EHG decided against mid-cycle leaderboard resets. They will, however, mark entries and link them to the respective patch, allowing players to determine whether or not the entry was before or after the bug fix.
  • Early Notifications: Players agreed on the importance of early notification for balance-altering bug fixes. EHG understands and will share more proactive communication while remaining aware of potential server issues or exploitation opportunities.

In response to the survey, EHG will roll out two major updates in the near future:

  1. Mid-Cycle bug fixes for items, skills, or builds that lead to overperformance.
  2. A leaderboard feature indicating the specific patch or time frame of an entry's occurrence.

These changes are possible because of the passionate and helpful feedback from us, the players. The Eleventh Hour Games team stated that they are committed to continuing to work with the community to improve the gaming experience for everyone.
