Let's talk logs. Not performing how I think i should

For my gear level, I should be doing more damage. I consider myself to be a good player but I'm always looking for that extra edge to help me improve. That being said, I am running destro mainly, but I wouldn't have a problem switching to affliction or demonolog - i'm just not optimized gearwise for it. Here is a link to the logs for us this week. Last night's second butcher attempt I had my pet on passive. We wiped at 700k health. It was my fault /facepalm. I'm no expert, but looking at your Butcher kill, here's what I've noticed.

Not using Copeland's trinket together with Dark Soul, and spending embers during that period. Dark Soul in itself is not overly strong for Destruction, it's real strength comes from syncing it up with trinkets, preferably Copeland's because of its spell power buff. It seems that you used your second charge of DS a tad early, and didn't have it up again when your trinket came off CD though.

 

That and Immolate uptime could be better, although 93% is decent.

Interesting. I've been binding my coplands and blood fury together in a macro, since their cooldown timers are identical (I guess Dark soul is too).  I also switched to the mastery weapon enchant which is a flat 15% or so damage increase to chaos bolt, with the idea that I was going to try and pump out more buffed chaos bolts. I was definitely finding myself starved for embers and cooldowns at the 30% enrage.  Immolate uptime I don't really have an excuse for. I was tasked with being in one of the melee groups @ 30% so that was some movement that maybe brought the dps down a little bit, and I think that may have been where I let the immolate drop off.

Take note that I'm analyzing your logs with a Rum Punch to my side and the Anguillan sun at my back.  

 

Doesn't matter what pull I look at for Heroic Butcher, your Immolate uptime is crud in both of the pulls that lasted 3+ minutes.  80% isn't acceptable for one of the only methods you have of passively generating Burning Embers.  Immolate uptime being low leads to fewer Chaos Bolts and less Burning Embers accessible during trinket procs.  You're playing a DoT class - you ALWAYS should have your DoTs up.  It's a very basic principle of any DPS player.  You have just under 5 seconds to reapply Immolate before it wears off.  You need a Weak Aura or some trigger to help you until you develop the muscle memory and mind to reapply Immolate ALL THE TIME.

You died before the 4:00 mark which would have been another DPS spike for you.  You should quit dying - that will help your DPS a lot.

Greetings Zagam Bumping this thread after some more raiding this week and working on what you had suggested. I have been focusing on mainly keeping my immolate time as close to 100% as possible, and not spending backdraft on CB. I'm definitely doing better but I think I could still push some more. Is there anything else you or anyone else notices from my logs that I could use improvement upon? I ran demo on Kargath but was destro fo all of the other fights. I already know my demonology play has a long way to go before I can reliably use it. Thanks again for all your hard work. 

 

Note: immolate uptime on Twins and Imperator is terrible after looking myself.

If you're keeping Immolate up and not using Backdraft on CB, the only other thing you CAN do is make your Chaos Bolts as big as possible.
