Ziaru 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2014 After tomorrow's (EU) spec changes will Frost be viable anymore compared to Arcane or am I going to be miles under the DPS I could be if I played Arcane? Recently spent extortionate amounts to get Multistrike on my gear to build up my DPS enough for HC Highmaul and I don't want to spend more on Frost if ill need to change to Arcane tomorrow. All mage specs are in the top5 best DPS at the moment. Play what you enjoy the most and you have the most gear for.

Or in projected sims with mythic HM/BRF, 4piece, etc.?
Oltier 471 Report post Posted December 9, 2014 In mythic gear and in sims, yes. Current gear doesn't differ too much.. it's still like top10 except fire, because of lack of crit gear (even with the buffs, yes.) But my point is: switching to another spec and spending 10000G on it, just because it's theoretically better is seriously not worth it. If you want to play arcane sooo much, just play it. Not because some random guys at Icy-veins or altered time tells you, but because you enjoy playing it...
Nozome 1 Report post Posted December 9, 2014 I would guess that on patchwerk arcane does more dmg than frost , but frost wins in fights with movement . (haven't seen any sims , thats my feel :D )

Balasarius 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2014 I like the idea of Arcane, but the casting of Runes of Power (specifically the glacially long cast time) make it very annoying. I'll stick with Frost.
Christoph 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2014 I would guess that on patchwerk arcane does more dmg than frost , but frost wins in fights with movement . (haven't seen any sims , thats my feel ) Arcane does not require RoP to manage mana anymore. This makes Mirror Images an easy choice on fights like Tectus or high movement now for Arcane. 15% SP is huge sure, but when you don't ever have to stop your effective damage rotation on priorities + the damage MI provides will result in higher damage output than if you were to try and RoP 15-20 times throughout the fight. Of coarse the fights times are long at the moment being early and low ilvl averages, but once you overgear places as we Mages love to do and fight times are considerably shorter, RoP could be a very viable talent for high movement fights still. Basically the amount of GCD's you use casting RoP are reduced greatly by pushing phases faster giving you more GCD's spamming AB on your Prysmatic Crystal ^ ^. but just a thought. = D

I feel this point needs to be emphasized more often right now, as people seem to be misinterpreting (ex. Other classes talking about how OP arcane is after the changes) these future tier sims as data to help them choose the highest DPS spec for *tonight* in a raid. Lausanna 4 Report post Posted December 11, 2014 (edited) If you like frost stay frost. Learn it well and you'll do fine. Simulators are great and everything but they don't really account for human error and the effect that what your teammates are doing has on you. If you read your guides and focus on what you're doing you can do well in any class in any spec. I've been arcane since day one and I've never had any problems keeping at or near the top of dps in whatever raid I'm in. I don't pay any attention to theory myself, but there's been many times people have tried to tell me "oh you have to switch to fire this xpac!" or "arcane is no longer viable!" Blah blah blah. I do what I enjoy, and it's never been an issue. As long as i'm consistently a top performer and my team is successfully completing raids, I don't really care if I've got the top spec or not. If that's what you're into, then by all means, change every time the theory changes. Personally I'm happy just being successful in my own circle. Incidentally someone told me yesterday that right now frost is on top. I don't know where that information comes from but considering you heard the opposite it just goes to show that you can't let rumours and theory dictate everything you do.
