Furee 0 Report post Posted December 17, 2014 (edited) Hey guys, I decided to try Affliction in our 7/7N 2/7H raid last night for certain fights, just to see how it was stacking up. I felt like I did ok, but would love any tips. I feel like I tunnel a bit too hard on my DoT timers (since it's not muscle memory just yet) and mistime my trinkets/DS usage. Couple of notes: I had to do the balancing of the groups on Butcher (actually a big reason I switched to Affliction, to lose less DPS doing this than Destro, which I did the first two weeks). Our Twins kill was a bit sloppy, so I think it hurt my damage while I was running for my life. The raid server lag was STRONG last night, which probably fucked up my Kargath and Butcher normal DPS. I'm pasting both N and H, but the heroic ones are probably a better indication. Logs (I am Hayles on these) Kargath Normal: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/2bcmxPHnCvtGrd7z#fight=2Kargath Heroic: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/2bcmxPHnCvtGrd7z#fight=26 Butcher Normal: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/2bcmxPHnCvtGrd7z#fight=5 Butcher Heroic: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/2bcmxPHnCvtGrd7z# Twins Normal: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/2bcmxPHnCvtGrd7z#fight=15 And here's my Armory: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/thrall/Hayles/simple I figured Destro was better for the other 4 fights (I didn't want to hearth and respec for Tectus Demonology, but I figure that'd be best on it), and generally did well on those. Thanks! Edited December 17, 2014 by Furee
Zagam 1,982 Report post Posted December 17, 2014 Hey guys, I decided to try Affliction in our 7/7N 2/7H raid last night for certain fights, just to see how it was stacking up. I felt like I did ok, but would love any tips. I feel like I tunnel a bit too hard on my DoT timers (since it's not muscle memory just yet) and mistime my trinkets/DS usage. The bolded part is pretty much all you can mess up with Affliction. It's a VERY simple spec - keep DoTs up, use Haunt appropriately, and fill with Drain Soul. Anyone can look at Affliction logs and see if it was done right. Raid lag was worldwide with the release of tablet-Hearthstone. Because releasing something that big on a Tuesday night makes all the sense in the world. Comcast is also having lots of problems on the East Coast for whatever reason. Lag sucks. I'll entertain you for one log, Butcher Heroic. DoT uptimes are fine. Haunt uptime is good. Dark Soul used properly. Double pots used correctly. Trinket syncronization done well. All you need is more gear. Isn't Affliction SO much fun? EDIT: Your logs don't show item level, so I have no idea what you're doing comparitively, but I'm sure you're at 95% or above of your theoretical max based on your logs. Furee 0 Report post Posted December 17, 2014 Thanks, Zagam! I was at 655 for that Butcher kill, FWIW. Affliction isn't SO bad, or at least I was expecting it to be more boring. Maybe that'll come when I'm not trying it for the first time. It's definitely no Demonology, though.
Zagam 1,982 Report post Posted December 17, 2014 I played Affliction on 7/7 normal and 6/7 Heroic last night. I did pretty well considering I was using a 636 weapon for every fight except Ka'rogh (disconnection at start of fight) and Imperator (disconnect at last 8%). It was doing better than Destruction for me, but my gear has grown so much that I believe it's a product of gear, not skill or spec difference. I also raid lead which puts a bit of a hamper on my ability to properly DPS, but not as much with Affliction since it's moderately mindless. I get silent in 2 minute intervals when I'm balancing Haunt, but other than that, I'm on the game. I've never developed muscle memory for a spec so fast. I know every 7 globals I'm reapplying UA. Corruption and Agony cycle especially while moving. Mana goes low only during Dark Soul. Basically all those little snippets make the spec mindless to me. Liquidsteel 279 Report post Posted December 17, 2014 Affliction is ok. Ramp up sucks and your DoTs still do no damage on their own. I dislike how much damage is throttled by haunt and drain soul. Prime example being brackenspore mythic where I had to go Destruction for spore shooter damage. I'm playing Affliction on a lot of encounters but purely out of it feeling ok on movement. I'll probably do a full night as Demonology today as we do heroic and attempt to clear back to Ko'ragh for Mythic. I see Brackenspore rekill taking a while so might ask to skip him... Zagam 1,982 Report post Posted December 17, 2014 So far, re-kills for us have been monumentally easier. Our first Imperator kill on Heroic took 14 minutes with 21 deaths out of 24 people. Our 2nd kill took 12 minutes with 2 deaths. Heading into Mythic this week with intents of getting 2/7. We shall see.
Unstablez 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2014 So not to hijack the thread, but is the difference between mid 80th to mid 90th percentile performance wise for affliction just going to be purely based around RNG and gear? My up times for dots are constantly around 98%+ and haunt sits around 50-55% most fights also, though I mainly rank around 85th percentile whilst raid leading myself. Sitting at around the 650-653iLvL for most of those also.
Zagam 1,982 Report post Posted December 18, 2014 The difference from 80th to 99th percentile will mostly come from small gains. If you're managing your DoTs correctly and using Haunt appropriately, what else can you do? Pray for crits, beg for Nightfall, and lap up those Multistrikes.
