Guest Report post Posted December 19, 2014 I am just learning to play Affliction warlock and aftet reading the Icy Veins guide, I am slightly confused on the usage of Soul Swap. It says: "While raiding, you will only use Soulburn on Haunt and Seed of Corruption, but never on Soul Swap." Does that mean even in AoE situations you never use Soul Swap? Also, when leveling (and in 5-mans) is it worse to use Soul Swap over Haunt (since they both cost 1 soul shard)?
Lockybalboa 618 Report post Posted December 20, 2014 Soul Swap is useless. Don't use it. MAYBE in Blackrock Foundry with the 2pc and a load of haste shards will be common enough to use SS again, but I think that is unlikely. For now the spell is basically useless.
taliesin52 3 Report post Posted December 20, 2014 Soul Swap burns a shard and that makes it damn expensive. The only situation where I could see using it would be if you needed immediate damage on something - one of those must kill adds that for whatever reason the other dps can't kill quick enough

Lockybalboa 618 Report post Posted December 20, 2014 Thanks for the quick response. Is it worth using in dungeons or leveling? I would say the first mistake would be leveling as aff, that sounds really icky. If you are leveling as aff though then I'd say no also. 5 mans are about burst, Aff is meh. Hybrex 1 Report post Posted December 20, 2014 Only time i've really used it is some trash packs, Soul swap a couple but time it so you can drain soul a target about to die and get shards back.
Mikedawg 4 Report post Posted December 20, 2014 Soul Swap is 2 GCDs. Your dots are 3 GCDs. You are spending a soul shard to save yourself 1 GCD. It's not worth it considering how important shards are for Haunt.
thyes 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2014 I dont know how good/bad soulswap is in pve, but if you venture into the world of pvp, then its very useful. Ive always been destro, but a little while ago I decided to main my priest, so now my lock is pure pvp. And I have to say, affli is SO fun to play in pvp! :D

Kinda like I did with demo, except I was overgeared, so HoG would 2 shot things. Think demo is probably gonna be better still. But I can see aff not being stabbing your eyes out with rusty spoons. Zagam 1,982 Report post Posted December 20, 2014 Soulburn would only be usable if it had a cooldown and not a resource cost. Soul Shards are too precious at the moment.
Kazistrasz 216 Report post Posted December 21, 2014 The days when it had a cooldown were significantly less fun, but nowhere near as shitty as it is today. Of course, playing multi-target without soul swap sucks more.
Astynax 24 Report post Posted December 21, 2014 The days when it had a cooldown were significantly less fun, but nowhere near as shitty as it is today. Of course, playing multi-target without soul swap sucks more. I feel like this is only because so much of Aff's damage is tied into Drain Soul. If we could backload the damage a little, and balance haunt and shards accordingly, it wouldn't feel like you tickle.
