Balance stat priority

Recommended Posts

The guide on here says after int, mastery is next best stat and I followed the link to me robot to see what I need to best optimize and it has mastery way down on the priority list and crit up top. Not sure which is the right way to go.

Do not listen to a thing Ask Mr. Robot has to say about stats.

Don't focus your attention on stats.  They're so close you could dump all of your enchants into versatility and you still wouldn't notice any difference in your DPS.  Instead of worrying about stats, spend the time it takes to register and post a stats question to ask about how to maximize playing the spec or to review logs (or ask us to review your logs) to find how to really increase your DPS.

Don't listen to Kaz when it comes to using Ask Mr. Robot.

While he is correct in saying not to worry about stats, he is wrong in saying Mr. Robot is a useless tool.

@Brayson: I'm going to direct you here: https://www.icy-veins.com/forums/topic/2430-to-those-people-who-ask-why-does-mr-robot-do-x-and-y/

Basically, you're asking the wrong questions. First, you should adhere what Kaz says and not worry too much about stats. Second, Mr. Robot isn't wrong, YOU'RE wrong. Mr. Robot only does what you tell him to do, not the other way around.  You can edit your own weights to what you want (and Mr. Robot has another option in there named 'Stellar Flare' which puts mastery as a higher priority stat)

IMO, you should use the 'stellar flare' one in general, but it wont make a huge difference. If you really want, just put your own weights based on what you sim for yourself.

Again, Mr. Robot is usually never wrong about stats with his optimization, he's only wrong in your eyes when you give him the wrong weights. He is correct with the weights you give him. only the human using him.  IF you truly think there is a programming error, then posting on their forums is a great way to help fix him.  But NEVER say "Mr. Robot told me to do this", because he never will tell you what to do. He only gives you the information for what YOU TELL him.  If you give him wrong inforamtion, then he will give you correct information based on the wrong information.

*Edited for Kaz cause he doesn't know how to use the context of the rest of my post to realize what I'm saying.*

There is no reforging anymore. There are no breakpoints anymore. There are no hit caps anymore. All of the things that existed in the past that required optimization and math about your gear are gone Gemming and enchanting to not carry any decisions to be made beyond picking your best stat. Their only possible use is the "best in bags" feature to *attempt* to tell you what the best stuff you have is, but that's never worked as intended. So then, in what way is AMR not useless?

Also, they've been telling people crazy stat priorities throughout WoD across several specs.  If they give you a stat priority that all other theorycrafting sources go again, explain to me how they are "never wrong about stats."  This isn't just a boomkin thing - they've had their stat information wrong for other specs, too.

People still use AMR becasue they are lazy. Some people might not know "oh mastery is my highest priority so i should gem and enchant that" Let people use the tools that work. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean other people out there wont use it when it works perfectly fine. This website is a TOOL that can be used to help players that don't think like you and having somewhere to re-affirm what they want to know makes people feel comfortable. If they only use it for the optimization, eventually they'll realize a pattern. The website does what it says it does, and it does a wonderful job at it. Telling people not to use it actually hurts in the long run becasue they might make their own bad decisions because they still don't understand how things work.

Their only possible use is the "best in bags" feature to *attempt* to tell you what the best stuff you have is, but that's never worked as intended.

You obviously haven't used it at all since WoD released since it was terrible before then because in fact, the Best in Bag feature is why I still use it when trying to manage all my gear between 3 different specs, it makes it much easier to sort out what I need. It even leaves your "main spec" gems and enchants alone when gearing your off spec.

Next: When I say "they are never wrong about stats", you're reading around what I said when it comes to the optimization. They are not wrong about the stats after you're optimized. The optimization has never given me any sort of trouble. What ever default weights they put in there, can be just as right or wrong as you, Icy-Veins, or Noxxic. The difference is that they allow you to change the values to what you want.

This isn't just a boomkin thing - they've had their stat information wrong for other specs, too.

I have been trying for literally a year to emphasize, USE YOUR OWN STAT WEIGHTS. I have never said that their default weights are always right for every spec. The optimization has always been correct and even more so now with the features that you mentioned that were removed. Their optimization is not wrong. If you think they are wrong, you should probably look at the stat weights.

Since you brought up lazy;

People do NOT understand

YOUR OWN STAT WEIGHTS

They think that the default stat weights are good because, hey that's my spec, so it must be right for me.

Where I don't like AMR is that their default stat weights aren't even correct for your spec in BiS gear.  For the time that it was supposed to save you in reforging (Cata/MoP), in Wod, you can just as quickly run SimCraft on yourself and know exactly what AMR will spit out without having to go back again and enter those weights into the website.
