Keeping Threat/Aggro - Heroic Butcher

So I was tanking Heroic Butcher last night with a Prot Paladin and I was struggling with threat, I was finding that the Paladin was easily catching up with me when I taunted and would over take me.

 

I had to tell him to remove Righteous Fury when I taunted or pulled, which for me, was rather embarrassing, as I have never had this problem before, usually I am the one who has to keep an eye on threat.

 

I am an experienced tank so I know what I am doing with rotations.  Quick run down, BR on CD, BB/DR macro'd, followed by SS, Rev and Dev when SS and Rev on CD.

 

I am 644 ilvl and the Paladin is 649 ilvl, I am certain that does not matter.

 

The healers were having a hard time, so I wasn't using HS for threat a lot, so SB usually on CD (though trying to keep one for The Tenderizer) and using Barrier (which I think is shit, but was using to help healers anyway), so obviously I was spending a lot of rage on defensive abilities.

 

So what I am looking for is, are other people running into this problem with threat?

I'm running with the same tank combo and I've experienced the same issue. Avenger's shield does a crazy amount of burst threat and coupled with his self healing, his TPS is really high. Only after I got a 655 weapon did I stop having such issues. I also have resorted to taunting right after charging as invariably the Butcher would switch to him otherwise.

I'll be able to help you more if you post some logs. Warrior damage and therefore threat is in a bad place right now in general, but I can probably still offer some feedback.

There are always inefficiencies. Just because some others are having issues due to class imbalance doesn't mean that there isn't more that you can be doing. Your rotation should always be the first place you look, no matter how sure you are that you're doing it perfectly.
