The Rate/Improve my deck thread.

 Getting smashed by face hunters and pirate warriors, sometimes face shamans. They finish me off in 6, sometimes 5 turns, main reason while I switched to a cheaper removal. Guess I'll go back to ghouls and see anew if I was wrong or not. Thanks!

My new favorite Hunter; Lock and 'Zoth.  I like the Lock and Load mechanic especially with the introduction of Cloaked Huntress but personally don't like Yogg. This deck has the same face as Yogg and Load but instead of Yogg as the Primary win condition I threw in N'Zoth. This deck also introduces Barnes, in my opinion a very powerful 4 drop especially if he can hit cards like Ragnaros, Sylvanas, Savannah Highmane, Cairne or Thaurissan. This deck only runs 10 minions to help keep N'Zoth and Barnes more consistent. So far I have about an 80% win rate with it out of about 20 games or so. I enjoy playing this deck and I hope others who try it enjoy it as well. I'm not sure if it can hit Legend, mainly because I've never hit Legend, but if someone can do so with it please let me know.

@KingMeActually, Call of the Wild is the primary win condition of Yogg-and-load hunter. Yogg-Saron, Hope's End is a secondary win condition or can be (and often is) used as a return or save mechanism. Your only strong return mechanism is Call of the Wild, but I suppose it is powerful enough.

I would personally run one Unleash the Hounds in place of one Explosive Shot. But of course, if you face way more control decks than aggro decks, Explosive Shot or Tracking should be better.

Oh my bad. Guess I got Yogg and CotW backwards. The traps, Rag and Barnes pulling Rag have been pulling me out of binds thus far. As far as Explosive Shot and Unleash the Hounds, I've been back and forth with them. I was running 1 of each but at the time of posting this I had been facing more control so I doubled up on Explosive Shot.  I have thought about taking out Emperor Thaurissan or an extra spell like Unleash the Hounds or Powershot to help deal with countering aggression but still not sure about that move. Emperor Thaurissan does help with cheapening my hands for bigger Lock and Load combos while also drawing out their hard removal spells. All in all this deck is still a work in progress. But from what you have seen what do you think?

I think you're missing Quick Shot and early interaction in general, and your N'zoth is considerably weak - mustering only a couple of bodies that are hard to draw, and no Taunt among them. Free up slots to solve your aggro problems.

Having a low creature count for a good Barnes is actually a cool idea. Cheating in all the good stuffs. It gets even more broken with pulling Emperor and Lock&Load.

Never pass on the opportunity to play Yogg. It's the most busted card in the game, literally. It doesn't work as a main win condition, but Hope's End is theliteral God Of Backup Plans.

It's actually doing fairly well against aggression. So far I've beaten a handful of Zoo and Aggro Pally's with the list I posted. I do feel like I'm cheating sometimes when I play Barnes in this deck because I know most of the time what I am going to pull. Barnes' two favorite targets today have been Sylvanas Windrunner and Ragnaros the Firelord which have swung the game in my favor. The secrets are also working in my favor when placed right and Lock and Load has been kind with it's draws. So all and all it's doing a lot better than I thought it would. The main thing I've learned as I've been playing it is when to play and when to hold. I have came back from what looked like unwinnable situations and pulled a win.

Hello there,

I was thinking of this deck since ive seen Barnes before it was released. The aim is simple, get malygos with cheap amount and destroy your oppennet with low cost damage cards of hunter.

Barnes will get you either emperor or malygos. So in case you have both barnes and malygos in your mulligan, emperor will save you this time when playing barnes by decreasing amount of malygos and some damage cards if any.

The idea is new. So im willing to listen any comment about it.

I have created a really fun Priest deck. I have tried to improve it to become stable but so far it has proven to be quite chancy... If I have the right draws at the right time, it is ver strong. But there seem to be too many way to beat it. 

Divine Fire Priest


It struggles with:

  • Rush/Aggro decks
  • control decks
  • 4-attack minions (weakness of the Shadow Word spells)


That doesn't leave much room for winning the meta except for some mid-range decks ;) 

The strategy of the deck is supposed to be: 

  1. Use lots of high health minions, preferring taunt minions
  2. try to maintain board control with Shadow Word: DeathShadow Word: Pain and taunt minions 
  3. draw lots of cards with Northshire Cleric and Power Word: Shield 
  4. use powerful combos of Divine Spirit, Power Word: Shield, Power Word: Tentacles and Inner Fire in the mid to late game 


I wonder if it is possible at all to make this a winner long-term. You can beat even vastly superior decks with the right draw but without such luck you lose pretty harshly. How can I improve it?

(Please consider, that this is supposed to be a low-to-no-budget deck)

@Pepe26Inner Fire OTK decks work very well with dragons. How many BrMs do you have?
You should not try to get as many Inner Fire targets as possible at any cost. You should play more minions that are good even without Inner Fire. That means Angry Chicken, Twilight Geomancer, Mogu'shan Warden, Oasis Snapjaw and Squirming Tentacle need to go.
You should get "core cards" for priest, such as Auchenai Soulpriest, Circle of Healing and Wild Pyromancer.
Do you have Entomb, Priest of the Feast or Justicar Trueheart?

I'm still quite new to Hearthstone, so I don't understand abbreviations well. Whats OTK? What do you mean by BrMs? Black Rock Mountains makes no sense t me, so it's probably something else :)

I have a follow-up as well: How am I supposed to deal with 4-attack minions?

@Pepe26OTK means One Turn Kill, ie. a deck that can deal massive damage output (generally 30+ damage) through various combinations, such as Divine Spirit+Divine Spirit+Inner Fire on Deathlord for 32 damage.
BrM stands for Blackrock Mountain, one of the adventures. My question meant how many wings of Blackrock Mountain adventure do you have.

You can deal with 4-attack minion by trading or with Entomb. It can be found in 3rd wing of League of Explorers.

I've got a Deathrattle Raptor Tempo deck, and since today I crafted a Sylvanas I wanted to ask suggestions on what to swap out for her:

If i were you, i would probably cut either Assassinate since your deck is a tempo deck, or i would cut Eater of Secrets. Its not that good of a card, since you really get value out it only versus Secret paladins, so i would rather have a card like Kezan Mystic in its place.

But in the end, its all preference.

Not a fan of Eater of Secrets either, but since more than half my opponents were Secret Paldins and Secret Hunters with some Freeze Mage in between, it was a necessary tech.

Assassinate is there to bypass big minions like Tirion so considering Sylvanas addresses the same problem it is the most likely cut, thanks for the input.

Hey guys,

First, I'm a big fan of this site. I really appreciate the awesome content! And, having only recently started playing hearthstone, it's been a huge help.

I've created a variation of the Basic deck that was listed under Rogue Constructed incorporating some of the new cards I've gotten and have been hovering around 18-20 rank. I'd like to get to 15 before the season ends so I can get that extra card reward, but feel my deck isn't as well put together as it could be so I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to improve it.

Underneath the Assassinate is 1 x Assassin's Blade , 1 x Azure Drake , 1 x Sprint and 1 x Arcane Giant

My rational with the Arcane Giant in such an aggro deck is that by the time I draw it, I usually have used enough spells to drop it for 7 or less mana allowing me to have at least some semblance of a bigger card. I subbed it in for my Bog Creeper. (Potentially relevant) I have a second Argent Squire and 25 dust, so I could craft a second Cold Blood and insert that and the Squire to try and open with Squire + Cold Blood. But I've been saving up my dust for a second Azure Drake. I have lots of other random commons that may be useful as well since I decided to buy 7 packs and the Karazhan adventure.

I would also vote to cut Assassinate for Sylvanas Windrunner. As far as Eater of Secrets, I can see the use for it in Wild. I would also use it over Kezan Mystic because it kills all the secrets as opposed to snatching just one. It's a better answer in my opinion to Secret Paladin and Yogg and Load.

@Marshall092You need to reduce the amount of 1-offs to improve the consistency of the deck. To do that, you need to decide which type of play suits you the best. The deck seems to be a combination of minion-focused tempo, and then spell-focused miracle-like tempo/control deck. From my experience, I recommend you to play the minion-focused tempo, but it is purely up to you. When you decide, let me know and we will try to improve your deck.
Also, if you would like some help with ranking up, add me and I could spectate you for a few games and possibly give you a few tips.

@positiv2 After doing some research on the two, I think going for minion focused Tempo is more my natural play style. And thank you so much for the offer! I'll add you now. Any advice is welcome

@Marshall092Okay, you should get rid of:
Swashburglars - they are too small to matter.
Coldlight Oracle - it gives your opponent advantage of both card draw and tempo.
Deadly Fork - the stats are too bad and a 3 mana 3/2 weapon does not make up for it.
Moroes - he dies to any AoE and loses you tempo.
Squirming Tentacle - its stats are too bad.
Arcanosmith - stats are too bad and you don'thave enough ways to utilize the taunt.
Blade Flurry - this card is utter trash. 4 mana to destroy your weapon and deal it as damage to minions only, that's simply extremely bad.
Violet Teacher - we will be getting rid of most spells here.
Arcane Giant - same reason as Violet Teacher.

Now for the swaps:
second Argent Squire - can trade-up for a 2-drop and that's both value and tempo.
2x Sap - it simply gives you tempo.
2nd Gnomish Inventor - it's a solid card draw minion.
We are 6 cards off. So, do you have Eviscerates, SI:7 Agents, Dark Iron Dwarfs, 2nd Abusive Sergeant, second Loot Hoarder, Argent Commanders, Undercity Hucksters, Undercity Valiants, Defias Ringleaders, Defender of Argus, second Azure Drake, Unearthed Raptors, Silithid Swarmers, Shado-Pan Riders or Dark Iron Skulker?

@Marshall092 You're basically missing all the cards ever. Stuff like SI:7, Argent Squires and Eviscerates are format staples, you should pick them up ASAP. Meanwhile load up your curve with basic cards, curve is the key. Chillwind Yeti isn't bad, it never was; neither is our lord and savior Boulderfist Ogre and even Razorfen Hunter is playable. Pompous Thespian makes a very bad Bloodfen Raptor impression and double Acidic Swamp Ooze is definitely better. Also collateral damage on weapon meta will be huge. 

You also picked a bad time to get into the game. With WotOG promotion packs I was able to setup smurfs on NA and Asia easily.

@ParacelYeah, I wanted to do that, but my tablet cannot handle more than 1 tab open :/
The deck is like zoo - it's cheap, pretty efficient and you can teach basics of the game with it.
To be honest, when I saw Pompous Thespian, I said that it's a bad card, but it seems to do fine in tempo-focused decks.

@positiv2 Thanks so much for these suggestions! I really appreciate it. I will make all the trades I can right away. Unfortunately, I am missing basically all of those cards. I have 45 dust so I could craft one of the commons and get started crafting those until I have a fuller and better deck. I'm starting to compile my collection in a google doc spreadsheet so that I can share it with others and they can see what I'm working with.

 

@Paracel Yeah. I basically am missing all those staple cards. I'll try to create a more balanced curve of basic cards then. I think I was winning more games when i had more basic cards anyways so I believe my improper construction has started leaving me in awkward spots such as having four cards without minions to drop and without card draw either. Better late than never. I'll just have to improve quickly.

      Hearthstone is taking a bold step into the StarCraft universe with "Heroes of StarCraft: The Great Dark Beyond," a 49-card mini-set launching in January 2025.

      Hearthstone: Heroes of StarCraft – The Great Dark Beyond Mini-Set  
      Early next year, Hearthstone is going beyond Warcraft and into... Heroes of StarCraft! This special Mini-Set will have a whopping 49 new cards across three themed factions, which show what the StarCraft universe would look like in the Hearthstone Tavern. Each faction is made up of cards that can be used across multiple classes, including an iconic Hero card. 
       Zerg 
      Death Knight, Demon Hunter, Hunter, and Warlock have joined the Zerg! Led by the formidable  Sarah Kerrigan, they will have aggressive cards that win the game by swarming the board. 
       Protoss 
      Druid, Mage, Priest, and Rogue fight for the Protoss Empire. Led by the High Templar Artanis, they will have powerful, high-cost cards that are made cheaper throughout the game. 
       Terran 
      Paladin, Shaman, and Warrior make up the Terran forces, led by the one and only Jim Raynor. They will command Battlecruisers—a special take on the Starship mechanic from The Great Dark Beyond. 
      The Mini-Set will feature a slew of StarCraft units which are sure to invoke nostalgia, as well as the Terran-armored Murloc, Grunty, and new, thematic music. You can chart a course for the Heroes of StarCraft Mini-Set, launching in January 2025! More announcements, details, and card reveals are coming closer to launch. 
       Major Arena Updates 
      Then, for the first time in 10 years, Arena Mode is getting a major overhaul. With that update, there will be two kinds of Arena to choose from. Normal Arena will be shorter form, allowing you to complete your runs more quickly. Competitive Arena players will be able to play in the higher-stakes Underground Arena, with longer runs and a new feature: Re-Draft on Loss. Re-Draft on Loss means that, after you lose, you’ll have the option to re-draft cards, edit your deck, and keep your run alive. 
      Ratings will also be added to both Normal and Underground Arena. Normal, skill-based matchmaking will be used for Normal Arena. Underground Arena throws caution to the wind and lets you face off against opponents of all skill levels. 
      This major Arena revamp is coming in the first half of next year. Look out for more details about this update closer to when it goes live. 
      A Preview of the Year Ahead: The Year of the Raptor!
      On top of those updates, Hearthstone has an exciting year of expansions ahead, with much-requested themes, locations, and familiar faces across Azeroth. 
      In the first expansion of the year, enter the Emerald Dream and join the battle between the Old Gods and the Druids of the Emerald Dream for the fate of the World Tree. Things will heat up even more when the Druids of the Flame light up the Mini-Set (releasing earlier than normal this year, during the 32.2 Patch).

      Today, we're recapping the four Shaman cards revealed by Gamespot. We also have some dev clarifications on how they work.

      What a way to kick things off; this card looks insane! The dream is that Drakuru takes out two of your opponent’s minions, resurrects them on your side, and survives combat somehow. You’re looking at a 5-for-1 exchange on board.
      In the more likely scenario that it doesn’t survive, that’s still a complete flip of the board state. Even if it’s trading into a single big minion on the opponent’s side, that’s still a 2-for-1, with that 1 on your side being a big tough-to-kill minion. The only worry is that there will sometimes be late-game scenarios where the 6/8 stat line won’t be enough to get you any resurrections, but I’m hopeful those are few and far between.
      Still, even if the Big Shaman archetype doesn’t catch on for Shaman, I expect this card, in particular, to find a home in Renathal Control Shaman lists. This card is doing much of the same work that Sylvanas and Insatiable Devourer are without having to run through the trouble of infusing first.

      Once again, another big expensive card and a solid showy effect to go along with it. Obvious deathrattle/reborn synergy, as well as good with big minions in general. At 10 cost, it will take up your entire mana pool for the turn, though there are things you can do to play around that as a shaman.
      We’ve gotten some clarification from the devs on the mechanics of this one:
      All the copies summoned die at the end of the effect trigger after having attacked. Unfortunately, it won’t be some corruption-style aura effect that a cheeky Showstopper effect can silence off. Your copies are made from your hand from left to right until no more board spaces are available. Beware that Colossals will summon their appendages and take up potential board space from your other copies. Windfury minions will only attack. Sorry Drakuru, no double freebies for you ? Minions that enter Dormant won’t attack, but they won’t die either! The interaction of getting free dormant minion copies on board is interesting, but is there enough to build a deck around? In standard, there is Gangplank, Slimescale, and Pelican Divers, but outside of From De Other Side “synergy,” they might not be worth it. In Wild, at the very least, there is meme potential with getting Magtheridion and The Darkness out with this and getting their battlecries to awaken both copies when you play them out the turn after.
      There’s obvious synergy with the other big cards revealed here, with Prescience loading up your hand with some beefy bois, getting get off reborn, lifesteal and deathrattle value, summon a minion from Overlord Drakuru.

      That’s a lot of keywords for a single card, but they work together to become the stuff of nightmares for any board-based aggro deck. Taunt and lifesteal make this a nightmare to trade into, and even with enough removal to clear the main body and the reborn one, the deathrattle effect still will hit for 3 twice and heal you for 6.       We’ve theory crafted 3 potential builds that can use this package of Shaman cards.
      First, consider diving head first into the Big Shaman theme, bringing in Vanndar Stormpike and forgoing all other sub-5 cost minions to get max value out of Prescience and From De Other Side. We’re also going to run with the evolve subtheme to take advantage of any leftover bodies that we might get from Stoneborn General, Overlord Drakuru, or Blighblood Berserkers. The departure of the Knights of the Frozen Throne set will make evolving 10 drops better again now that there are no more Snowfury Giants in the Evolve pool, and we get to re-roll for the generally better bodies from the 10 costs. We’re adding in some early-game removal to compensate for the lack of early drops so we can better survive the early game.

      Next, let’s try to use the standard Renathal Control Shaman archetype that’s doing rather well in the meta as a starting point. One safe idea is to look at slotting Overlord Drakuru and potentially Brightblood Berskerker and From De Other Side into this standard XL Renathal Control Shaman as ways of fighting back on board while getting your infuse cards stacked up.

      We could instead also try and drop all the duplicates from the list and convert it into a Reno deck, as the deck was already playing a lot of one-offs.       Why not use both and make it a Reno-thal deck? Prescience and Windchill will try to compensate for the loss of card draw from droping one copy of Gorloc Ravager and Famished fool. We are adding in Convincing Disguise to have still enough evolve effects around. The idea of including Bracing Cold and Far Sight is to hopefully discount From De Other Side or the evolve cards so we make use of any leftover bodies in the same turn. Ozumat’s in here not just to get us up to 40 cards, but because it’s a near guaranteed board clear combo with From De Other side, if you manage your hand and board space just right, that leaves you with all its appendages afterward.
