Amber Guide and Best Builds for Genshin Impact
Amber is a 4-star Pyro character that is one of the first major characters you meet in the main storyline of Genshin Impact. She is a bow user with a basic toolkit that includes a taunting bunny puppet and an AoE Pyro burst ability. Amber struggles to find a preferred role in the majority of teams, but can function as a decent support for some creative Pyro teams.
Strengths and Weaknesses
- Decent Charged Shot
- Has taunt ability
- Has very long cooldowns
- Extremely high investment with mediocre results
- Low HP pool
- Lackluster personal damage
Amber Pyro Support Build
Amber struggles to find a well defined role within the majority of teams in Genshin. While she can perform as an on-field DPS with some extreme investment, typically players ignore her or leave her in a support role. Overall, her elemental power is somewhat lack luster for Pyro, even after you start to get into her constellations, which are relatively decent. Her C1 grants two arrows per aimed charge shot with the second arrow doing 20% more damage. C2 allows you to detonate your Baron Bunny for 200% Pyro damage, which can trigger some decent Melt damage. Her C4 grants you two charges for your Baron Bunny and lowers the cooldown for it by 20%. This can make her quite an attractive trigger for some Pyro driven reactions, however, the damage will only be okay. Her C6, which makes her Elemental burst trigger a party wide buff for increased Attack and Movement Speed by 15% for 10s, puts her firmly into the Support role.

Amber's weapon selection is challenging as support, Indeed, the best bow depends on what team composition she is paired up with. The two top choices we recommend are the The First Great Magic and Elegy for the End. These bows both serve somewhat the same purpose, by focusing more on her team than what either bow actually does for Amber.
- The The First Great Magic offers a flat ATK increase based upon your team's elemental composition. This bonus only helps if you use additional Pyro characters. This can work amazingly well in Pyro stacked team, pushing the bonus up with each Pyro member added to a maximum of 24% ATK.
- The other choice is the Elegy for the End, which has a powerful weapon skill for team support and can work with having her on the field in short bursts with her abilities.
The next best choice for her would be the Favonius Warbow or Ibis Piercer if you do not have either of the 5-star bow options. Due to the fact that Amber is not used for her personal DPS, we can focus on team synergy choices like the two listed above. The last bow on the list, Mitternachts Waltz, is aimed towards amplifying Amber's Skill for Bunny Explode teams.
Update 5.0 has added the Chain Breaker bow which opens up a new way to boost ATK damage for Amber based on her party makeup. This has the potential to work quite well with select teams due to the weapon perk being based on using different elemental characters or Natlan specific characters. This 4-star weapon is also forgable which means we can attain a Rank 5 version of the weapon simply by farming. However, this weapon does have one draw back by forcing certain character combinations to be used and might not fit everyones preferred party members.
For Amber's Artifact choice, we recommend Noblesse Oblige, this set offers a party wide buff for her Elemental Burst turning it into a decent support skill for your team. The second choice, Crimson Witch of Flames is more focused on reaction damage and can assist her damage as a Pyro trigger. While she still scales poorly with it, it does offer her some damage gains. We have included some alternative sets to round her out, but ultimately for a support role, Noblesse Oblige is the best choice.
Combos and How to Play Amber
We suggest Amber be played as a support role, due to the massive investment involved in trying to push her into a Sub DPS or Main DPS role. While some players have certainly taken this on as a personal quest, it is absolutely not recommended. This is especially true for any F2P as your resources are precious and are better invested in a different character. As a support Amber is still only going to be mediocre compared to many other support options in the character roster. Amber can do a decent job as a Pyro driver for some Elemental Reactions, like using the ability to shoot her Baron Bunny for an explosion (C2). However, for the most part Amber's taunting Elemental Skill, Explosive Puppet, is quite weak and her Elemental Burst, Fiery Rain, is at best used as a pseudo-buff mechanic (C6) rather than for its base damage.
Amber's Best Team Comps
Amber Double Pyro Team
Support | Hydro Spreader | Sub DPS | Main DPS |
---|---|---|---|
Amber | Xingqiu | Sucrose | Hu Tao |
Amber plays as support role in this double Pyro and having her C6 constellation to add a buffing component to her Fiery Rain is ideal, although not required. First, Sucrose can use her Elemental Skill to group up the enemies for Xingqiu to spread Hydro on them with his Elemental Burst. Next, we can switch to Amber to continue the Hydro spread with some rapid shots of her normal attacks, do not use charged attacks. Time will be of the essence so as soon as you finished with spreading the Hydro, drop her Elemental Burst to buff the team and then get Sucrose back out onto the field for her Elemental Burst. Lastly, Hu Tao will take the field and use her abilities to clean up.
Amber Melt/Reverse Melt Team
Support Pyro | Sub DPS | Buffer | Main DPS |
---|---|---|---|
Amber | Rosaria | Kaedehara Kazuha | Ganyu |
This Melt team uses Amber as a simple Pyro spreader using her Elemental Burst and charged attacks to strike enemies. This build will work without constellations and is just simply about timing. We first setup the rotation with Kazuha, using his abilities to group up your opponents and buff the team. Next, comes Amber to use her Elemental Skill to toss down her taunting bunny. While the enemies are focusing on the bunny, hit them with charged attacks for Pyro until they destroy your bunny and unleash an explosion of Pyro damage. At this moment, get Rosaria on the field and dumps her skills, boosting the team's CRIT Rate and triggering a Melt reaction. Now, we can pull Amber out again and use her Elemental Burst on top of the group to spread Pyro over them again. Finally, Ganyu can use her Elemental Burst and then clean up with charged attacks. This is a simple rotation that you just need to time properly.
Amber Exploding Bunny Team
Support | Buffer | Shielder/Healer/Cryo | Buffer |
---|---|---|---|
Amber | Sucrose | Diona | Bennett |
This team requires Amber's C2 to make her bunny blow up when a charged shot hits the bunny's foot and C4 for two charges of Explosive Puppet. This build is set up with Sucrose using both her abilities on your opponents. Then we swap to Amber and activate Explosive Puppet and detonate it with a charged attack to the foot. This is bunny explosion number 1. Next we use Diona's shield skill, hitting as many enemies as we can for maximum effect. We then swap to Bennett and prepare the area for your second bunny with his Elemental Burst. A quick swap back to Amber to throw out her second bunny, then aim and fire. This is bunny explosion number 2. We end with Amber dumping her Elemental Burst on to the field and swap back to Diona to use her Elemental Burst. This will top off our team's HP and slowly chill all remaining enemies on the field while we get set up to repeat the rotation. Overall, this build works better with more damage choices on Amber's gear and decent damage bow.
