Chongyun Guide and Best Builds for Genshin Impact

Strengths

• Elemental Burst only costs 40 Energy.

• Lacks personal DMG and a lot of investement if you want to play him as a DPS.
• Limited team compositions.
• Few characters actually benefit from the Cryo Infusion Chongyun provides.

For this Chongyun build the best weapon is Wolf's Gravestone, as it not only boost his own ATK but also the entire team. Beacon of the Reed Sea and Serpent Spine are good options for more DPS focused Chongyun, as they are better for his personal damage. Sacrificial Greatsword is a great option as it can allow you to use Chongyun's skill twice in a row.

For a Chongyun Burst support build, his best set is Noblesse Oblige as it will provide a team wide ATK buff through Chongyun's Burst. If another character in your team already uses Noblesse Oblige, you should use either Blizzard Strayer or Emblem of Severed Fate.

Chongyun's Energy Requirements are rather low since his Burst does not cost that much, but you should still aim towards 130 % ER.

Whether you use Chongyun as a Sub DPS or Burst Support, prioritize his Elemental Burst and Skill first. His Normal Attack can be upgraded slightly, but you do not need to max it.

Chongyun is one of the easiest characters to play since he does not require any big rotation, or anything specific to function. He is mainly used as a Burst Support, since his Spirit Blade: Cloud-Parting Star Burst deals massive damage. You will swap to Chongyun to put down his Spirit Blade: Chonghua's Layered Frost AoE zone that will infuse with Cryo any melee weapons of characters who are inside the circle, and then use his Burst before swapping back to the main DPS.

Chongyun's teams will revolve around the elemental reactions Melt and Freeze. Because of his Cryo infusion, his teams are limited, but he can be a very good burst support or Sub DPS.

Chongyun is a great support for any type of Melt team. Bennett is needed as well, which leaves two spots free for one Main Cryo ideally, as it is better if he can benefit from Chongyun's Cryo infusion. Rosaria is a good option. The last slot can be filled with another Pyro or Anemo support.

The Chongyun Freeze team requires you to have one or two Cryo characters, and at least one Hydro character. The last slot is a bit more flexible, as you can either use an Anemo character such as Kaedehara Kazuha, or another Hydro character.

This team focuses using only Cryo characters. While Kamisato Ayaka does not benefit from Chongyun's Cryo infusion as she has her own, she will still make use of his Cryo RES Shred and particle generation. Rosaria or Kaeya are both viable options as Sub DPS in this team, while Shenhe is required in a mono Cryo team.
