Jean Guide and Best Builds for Genshin Impact
Jean is a 5-star Anemo Sword user known as the 'Dandelion Knight' who leads the Knights of Favonius. She focuses on single-target brawling augmented by her Anemo air blast, Gale Blade, which can throw enemies around and damage them with a strike of Anemo. Dandelion Breeze is Jean's Elemental Burst, which is a huge AoE attack that provides a burst of Anemo damage and healing for your team. Overall, Jean is a powerful support healer that can be added to almost any team.
Strengths and Weaknesses
- Constant small heals
- Huge burst Healing ability
- Decent HP and DEF scaling
- Elemental Skill on short Cooldown
- Mediocre DPS
- Tends to push enemies away with skills
- Longer Elemental Burst
Healing Support Jean
Jean's primary role in this build is to utilize normal attacks for short bursts of healing (15% of her ATK) while charging up her Elemental Burst, Dandelion Breeze. Her play style focuses on short on-field swaps, performing normal and charged attacks blended in with her Gale Blade to make elemental orbs for your team. Her Dandelion Breeze is used for critical healing, usually providing a full heal to your entire team.

For Jean's weapon choice, we select Freedom-Sworn over the Primordial Jade Cutter due to the on and off-field effects that can be applied to the entire team. The Primordial Jade Cutter would be more aligned with Jean for a Sub DPS role or to amplify her personal damage to increase her healing for the team. Overall, we feel that the Freedom-Sworn slightly edges out the alternatives for her support build. The 4-star sword choices in this build are once again looking to support team composition and not Jean's combat capabilities.
At higher levels (70 and above), Jean can provide mediocre physical damage with bursts of Anemo while remaining relatively tanky with a decent Health pool. This can come in handy when you need to create some elemental orbs or charge up her Dandelion Breeze to fully heal your team. For the most part, you will want to stack your Energy Recharge and Attack Power for bringing her out on the field for short durations. Her Artifact selection is relatively straight forward and the best in slot would be the Viridescent Venerer 4-piece set.
Combos and How to Play Jean
When choosing your setup for Jean, you ultimately will need to decide how you want to play her. Jean is not only a fantastic support healer but we can also be used to augment other players through her Artifacts, and contribute to increasing the power of others. Jean's elemental skill has a relatively short cooldown, so swapping her on-field to blast a group of enemies with Gale Blade or doing a quick flurry of strikes to get some healing on to your characters is the preferred play style for her.
Jean's Elemental Skill, Gale Blade, has some advantages of being able to push enemies away or when held down, it can pull enemies towards a designated spot. This can be used with terrain, such as cliffs, water or other elemental ground effects from other characters. This burst attack can also help with Swirl chain combinations and reactions, offering a decent chunk of damage on a short cooldown. Her Burst ability, Dandelion Breeze, is really where she shines as a healer. This large circular AoE attack not only does damage, but heals a significant amount of health to all characters and then provides a heal-over-time to the active character standing in the marked area after the skill was cast. This allows us the opportunity to use Dandelion Breeze as a powerful addition to any heroes that sacrifice health for certain attacks or to simply stay in a fight without the need to reposition for safety.
Jean's abilities function effortlessly at C0 and she's a great character to use at any point in the game. Her play style and augmented healing abilities allow for her to join a large collection of teams. Her constellations provide many useful upgrades, but none of them are critical to her success. While often being a character on the Standard Banner, Jean can be targeted occasionally on the Chronicled Wish Banner.
Jean's Best Team Comps
Most of Jean's team compositions involve her as a healing support member, triggering Swirl reactions and elemental combinations with her Anemo skills. She typically always fills the support role and is never a main DPSer. However, due to her decent amount of health and scaling with Physical damage, she can hold her own on the battlefield.
Double Hydro
Support | Main DPS | Support | Support |
---|---|---|---|
Jean | Neuvillette | Furina | Xilonen |
This new build has so much healing, resistance shred and damage output. Furina's Fanfare stacks are easy to maintain with the joint healing of Jean and Xilonen, helping to boost Neuvillette's damage output. Add in the resistance shred to Hydro from Xilonen and Jean's Viridescent Venerer gear set triggering more resistance shred with her Swirl and your team is going to melt through most enemies with Neuvillette's Hydro beam. The only draw back to this build is the lack of interruption resistance for Neuvillette, so positioning and being aware of your enemies attack will be key. If you do get smacked around, don't fret as healing comes easy.
Sunfire Melt
Support | Buffer | Sub DPS | Main DPS |
---|---|---|---|
Jean | Bennett | Kamisato Ayaka | Yanfei |
Sunfire is the community name for the interaction between Jean and Bennett’s Elemental Burst abilities, with Bennett using his burst first than Jean applying her burst second. This unique reaction takes place because Bennett's burst applies a Pyro aura to the battlefield which is continually applied to your active character. When Jean's Elemental Burst is added to Bennett's, she can Swirl that Pyro aura off of your character triggering an explosive reaction. This can repeat itself when both Elemental Bursts are stacked on top of one another. We can then take this combination further by using Ayaka@’s Elemental Burst, Kamisato Art: Soumetsu, to add Cryo and a large scale AoE to the battlefield. Lastly, we trigger a massive Melt with Yanfei's Pyro abilities, using both her Skill and Burst together. Finish off any enemies left on the map with Yanfei’s charged attacks.
Double Anemo Xiao
Support | Main DPS | Sub DPS off-fielder | Shielder |
---|---|---|---|
Jean | Xiao | Fischl | Zhongli |
This combination is a power house with a simple playstyle. Zhongli provides shielding to the team, holding down his Elemental Skill to activate it. Fischl's Elemental Skill, Nightrider, provides a constant source of Electro DMG alongside your Anemo strikes from both Jean and Xiao. Jean's role is mainly healing support for Xiao's devastating plunging attacks with his Elemental Burst, Bane of All Evil. She provides healing from both her normal attacks and Dandelion Breeze for topping off Xiao as he loses a portion of his health with each of his signature attacks. Typically, you finish off Xiao's rotation, maximizing his time on-field to do damage, then heal him and repeat the process.
Ganyu Freeze
Support | Main Cryo DPS | Hydra off-fielder | Flex option or Shielder |
---|---|---|---|
Jean | Ganyu | Xingqiu | Diona |
This Freeze composition uses a Hydro character, specifically Xingqiu in this example, to dose enemies with Hydro then Freeze the entire group using Ganyu's Elemental Burst or Charged Attack. This combination puts Jean into the specific slot of amplifying the elemental attacks with Swirl and using her Elemental Skill to herd enemies together before Freezing everything with a Cryo skill. We chose to include Diona in this composition, as you get the added effect of shielding and Cryo resonance for more CRIT Rate. Ganyu typically carries this team, with her powerful elemental abilities and charged shots.
Quickswap Taser Team
Main DPS | Sub DPS | Sub DPS | Sub DPS |
---|---|---|---|
Jean | Beidou | Fischl | Xingqiu |
This Taser focuses on having Jean on the field brawling, then bringing out Xingqiu's Elemental Skill to buff our Damage Reduction. This combination makes Jean an absolute tank, with her healing capabilities off-setting any damage she takes in a fight. On top of the Damage Reduction we receive from Xingqiu, we can also stack Beidou's Elemental Burst, Stormbreaker, for even more Damage Reduction. Fischl will provide a powerful off-fielder with her Nightrider skill stacking with all our other elemental effects on the field, helping to create strong Elemental Reactions for this team.

Jean's Constellations
People's Aegis (C2) and Lands of Dandelion (C4) are the two most prized constellations you want to aim for. The first grants every party member increased Movement SPD and ATK SPD by 15% every time Jean picks up an elemental orb or energy particle. The second one shreds all opponents Anemo RES by 40% if they are standing in our Dandelion Breeze, amazing for setting up huge damage combos with Anemo.
# | Name | Explanation |
---|---|---|
C1 | Spiraling Tempest | Increases the pulling speed of Gale Blade after holding for more than 1 second, and increases the DMG dealt by 40%. |
C2 | People's Aegis | When Jean picks up an elemental orb/particle, all party members have their Movement SPD and ATK SPD increased by 15% for 15s. |
C3 | When the West Wind Arises |
|
C4 | Lands of Dandelion | Within the Field created by Dandelion Breeze, all opponents have their Anemo RES decreased by 40%. |
C5 | Outbursting Gust |
|
C6 | Lion's Fang, Fair Protector of Mondstadt | Incoming DMG is decreased by 35% within the Field created by Dandelion Breeze. Upon leaving the Dandelion Field, this effect lasts for 3 attacks or 10s. |
