Lohen Guide & Best Builds

Welcome to our Lohen build guide for Genshin Impact. Lohen is a powerful 5-Star Hexerei Cryo DPS who deals damage through Cryo-infused Normal Attacks. In this guide, we'll cover everything you need to know to get the most out of Lohen, from his best Artifacts and Weapons to stat priorities and rotations.

Best Weapons for Lohen

Listed below are Lohen's best weapons. While weapons are listed in a priority order, what's best to build on your Lohen can vary depending on the team composition and level of investment you want to put into Lohen.

Disaster and Remorse (R1) 113.98%

Dolorous Stroke

Base ATK: 674

CRIT Rate: 22.1%

After the equipping character uses an Elemental Skill, they gain "Path of Conflict" for 17s, as well as "Unforgivable" and "Irreparable" for 3s each. This effect can trigger once every 18s.
Unforgivable: Increases the equipping character's Normal Attack and Charged Attack DMG by 40% / 50% / 60% / 70% / 80%.
Irreparable: Increases the equipping character's Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst DMG by 40% / 50% / 60% / 70% / 80%.
While Path of Conflict is in effect, when the equipping character hits an opponent with a Normal Attack or Charged Attack, Irreparable's duration will be increased by 1s. When the equipping character hits an opponent with their Elemental Skill or Elemental Burst, Unforgivable's duration will be increased by 1s. Each of the above effects can be triggered once every 0.1s. When Path of Conflict ends or the equipping character leaves the field, both Unforgivable and Irreparable will be removed.
Hexerei: Secret Rite: The above DMG boosts are increased by 75%.

Lohen's signature weapon and his best-in-slot, providing a high Base ATK as well as a CRIT Rate substat. This weapon can increase either Normal / Charged Attack DMG or Elemental Skill / Burst DMG by 40% for 3s after using an elemental skill. The duration of the Skill / Burst DMG bonus can be increased by using normal attacks, and the duration of the Normal / Charged Attack DMG bonus can be increased by using skills or bursts. This weapon provides a decent boost to either of Lohen's DMG sources, with the effect increasing to 70% when played with a second Hexerei character.
Primordial Jade Winged-Spear (R1) 109.21%

Eagle Spear of Justice

Base ATK: 674

CRIT Rate: 22.1%

On hit, increases ATK by 3.2% / 3.9% / 4.6% / 5.3% / 6% for 6s. Max 7 stacks. This effect can only occur once every 0.3s. While in possession of the maximum possible stacks, DMG dealt is increased by 12% / 15% / 18% / 21% / 24%.

Primordial Jade Winged-Spear is one of Lohen's best weapon options, usually only behind his signature. Lohen's Charged Attack during his Masterstroke state can hit fast enough to consistently stack this weapon's effect.
Staff of the Scarlet Sands (R1) 106.93%

Heat Haze at Horizon's End

Base ATK: 542

CRIT Rate: 44.1%

The equipping character gains 52% / 65% / 78% / 91% / 104% of their Elemental Mastery as bonus ATK. When an Elemental Skill hits opponents, the Dream of the Scarlet Sands effect will be gained for 10s: The equipping character will gain 28% / 35% / 42% / 49% / 56% of their Elemental Mastery as bonus ATK. Max 3 stacks.

Staff of the Scarlet Sands is a strong option to use in Melt or Burn Melt teams, converting EM investment into bonus ATK for Lohen, while providing a large 44% CRIT Rate substat.
Fractured Halo (R1) 105.56%

Purifying Crown

Base ATK: 608

CRIT DMG: 66.2%

After an Elemental Skill or Elemental Burst is used, ATK is increased by 24% / 30% / 36% / 42% / 48% for 20s. If the equipping character creates a Shield while this effect is active, they will gain the Electrifying Edict effect for 20s: All nearby party members deal 40% / 50% / 60% / 70% / 80% more Lunar-Charged DMG.

Other 5-Star stat sticks that provide CRIT and useful stats like ATK, such as Fractured Halo, can be viable options. They are usually slightly better than 4-Star options. Other 5-Star stat-stick options include:
Deathmatch (R5) 103.44%

Gladiator

Base ATK: 454

CRIT Rate: 36.8%

If there are at least 2 opponents nearby, ATK is increased by 16% / 20% / 24% / 28% / 32% and DEF is increased by 16% / 20% / 24% / 28% / 32%. If there are fewer than 2 opponents nearby, ATK is increased by 24% / 30% / 36% / 42% / 48%.

The Battle Pass 4-Star Deathmatch is usually Lohen's best 4-star option, providing CRIT Rate and ATK.
Ballad of the Fjords (R5) 103.17%

Tales of the Tundra

Base ATK: 510

CRIT Rate: 27.6%

When there are at least 3 different Elemental Types in your party, Elemental Mastery will be increased by 120. / 150. / 180. / 210. / 240.

The Battle Pass 4-Star Ballad of the Fjords can be a strong option in Melt or Burn Melt teams as it provides CRIT Rate and EM if your party has three different elements. However, it requires 3 different elements in the party, which can limit team options.
Sacrificer's Staff (R5) 102.63%

Untainted Desire

Base ATK: 620

CRIT Rate: 9.2%

For 6s after an Elemental Skill hits an opponent, ATK is increased by 8% / 10% / 12% / 14% / 16% and Energy Recharge is increased by 6% / 7.5% / 9% / 10.5% / 12%. Max 3 stacks. This effect can be triggered even when the equipping character is off-field.

Sacrificer's Staff is one of Lohen's best 4-Star options, and one that can be obtained through the weapon banner. Sacrificer's Staff is one of the few freely obtainable 4-Star weapons that provide a CRIT Rate substat.
Missive Windspear (R5) 101.46%

The Wind Unattained

Base ATK: 510

ATK: 41.3%

Within 10s after an Elemental Reaction is triggered, ATK is increased by 12% / 15% / 18% / 21% / 24% and Elemental Mastery is increased by 48 / 60 / 72 / 84 / 96.

Missive Windspear is a F2P 4-Star event weapon that can be a decent option for players who already have it. Missive Windspear can increase ATK and EM after triggering an elemental reaction, making it a decent 4-Star option for Melt or Burn Melt teams.
Tamayuratei no Ohanashi (R5) 100.42%

Busybody's Running Light

Base ATK: 565

Energy Recharge: 30.6%

Increase ATK by 20% / 25% / 30% / 35% / 40% and Movement SPD by 10% for 10s when using an Elemental Skill.

Tamayuratei no Ohanashi is a F2P 4-Star event weapon that can be used as a stat stick solely for its effect, which provides up to 40% ATK. The 40% Bonus ATK on top of the high base ATK for a 4-Star weapon makes this a usable option.
White Tassel (R5) 100.00%

Sharp

Base ATK: 401

CRIT Rate: 23.4%

Increases Normal Attack DMG by 24% / 30% / 36% / 42% / 48%.

White Tassel is a 3-Star weapon that can be easily obtained. White Tassel is a solid F2P option for Lohen, as it provides up to 23.4% CRIT Rate and increases Normal Attack DMG.

This weapon ranking is made in a team with Lohen, Durin, Nicole, and Xilonen and showcases overall Team DPS. As Lohen prefers to be played with powerful off-field damage dealers, it is often the case that his damage does not make up the majority of the team's overall damage, making weapon choice less impactful on overall team damage. The baseline for this ranking is an R5 White Tassel.

Best Artifacts for Lohen

A Day Carved From Rising Winds

A Day Carved From Rising Winds

2-Piece Set: ATK +18%.

4-Piece Set: After a Normal Attack, Charged Attack, Elemental Skill, or Elemental Burst hits an opponent, gain the Blessing of Pastoral Winds effect for 6s: ATK is increased by 25%. If the equipping character has completed Witch's Homework, Blessing of Pastoral Winds will be upgraded to Resolve of Pastoral Winds, which additionally increases the CRIT Rate of the equipping character by 20%. This effect can be triggered even when the character is off-field.

A Day Carved From Rising Winds is a great option for DPS Hexerei characters and is Lohen's best-in-slot option for Melt and Burn Melt. This set increases ATK by 25% after a Normal Attack, Charged Attack, Elemental Skill, or Elemental Burst hits an opponent, and increases CRIT Rate by 20% after unlocking the Witch's Eve Rite passive.
Blizzard Strayer

Blizzard Strayer

2-Piece Set: Cryo DMG Bonus +15%

4-Piece Set: When a character attacks an opponent affected by Cryo, their CRIT Rate is increased by 20%. If the opponent is Frozen, CRIT Rate is increased by an additional 20%.

When played in a Freeze team, Blizzard Strayer or Marechaussee Hunter with Furina become viable options to use. In such teams, Blizzard Strayer's 40% CRIT Rate or Marechaussee Hunter's 36% CRIT Rate can be slightly better than A Day Carved From Rising Winds's bonus effects.

Lohen's Stat Priority

Sands of Eon: ATK % > Elemental Mastery
Goblet of Eonothem: Cryo DMG > ATK %
Circlet of Logos: CRIT Rate / CRIT DMG
Substats: CRIT Rate / CRIT DMG > ATK % > Elemental Mastery > Energy Recharge

As a DPS character, Lohen prioritizes CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, and ATK to increase his personal DMG. With the A Day Carved From Rising Winds Artifact Set, Lohen gains an additional 20% CRIT Rate, and therefore you should aim for 80% CRIT Rate.

When used in a Melt or Burn Melt Team, Elemental Mastery can also be considered to increase the DMG of Lohen's Melt hits. Although it should be noted that Lohen's high-frequency Cryo application can make his melts less consistent, which lowers the value of EM slightly. Generally, it is recommended to prioritize ATK % over EM.

In most teams, most of Lohen's DMG comes out of his Cryo-infused Normal and Charged Attacks and Elemental Skill. While his Elemental Burst can be used to deal a decent amount of DMG without causing DPS loss, it is generally not recommended to build ER to burst consistently, as the gain from bursting is negligible and not worth trading CRIT and ATK % stats for ER.

Recommended Stats for Lohen

Build recommendations assume a "decently built" level of artifact rolls alongside Lohen's F2P baseline White Tassel. Using other weapons may increase or decrease certain stats relative to these recommendations.

HP: 18,000 (Any)
ATK: 1,800
CRIT Rate: 60%-80%
CRIT DMG: 180%-200%
Elemental Mastery: 0-200~ (Depending on team comp)

When building CRIT Rate on Lohen, an additional 20% can be gained from the A Day Carved From Rising Winds artifact set, which caps the CRIT Rate at 20%. In Melt or Burn Melt teams, some bonus Elemental Mastery can be nice to have, although it should not be prioritized over gaining more ATK.

Lohen's Talent Priority

Talent Priority: Unforeseen Strike > Manifest Judgment >>> Spear of Favonius — Broken Oath

Most of Lohen's DMG comes from his Cryo-infused Normal Attacks during the Masterstroke state, which can be accessed through his Elemental Skill. It is important to note that his Normal Attacks during the Masterstroke state scale with Elemental Skill level rather than Normal Attack level, making Normal Attack levels unnecessary. Elemental Burst can also be leveled as a secondary priority, as it can be used if available during Lohen's rotation.

How to Play Lohen

In most teams, Lohen's role is that of an on-field DPS dealing damage, or he can also be considered as a Driver applying on-field Cryo to enable the Melt reaction. In both scenarios, Lohen's rotation remains similar.

1.

Freeze vs Melt Teams

Lohen's playstyle has notable changes depending on if played in a Freeze team or in a Melt/Burn melt team which we have outlined below with an example from our Lohen Teams Guide.

Freeze teams put Lohen forward as a Main DPS, where all party members buff Lohen's Cryo DMG while also dealing off-field damage.
Melt or Burn Melt teams change things slightly; while most party members will buff Lohen's DMG, the inclusion of a Cryo Sub-DPS like Durin slightly shifts Lohen's role to more of a Driver, where Lohen's on-field Cryo application helps enable the Melt reaction. In such teams, Lohen deals 50-60% of the team's overall DMG.
2.

Lohen's Kit

Lohen's kit revolves around his Masterstroke state and special resources Joy and Will to Win. The Masterstroke state can be entered by using Lohen's Elemental Skill Unforeseen Strike, and a special resource bar appears. During the Masterstroke state, Lohen's Normal and Charged Attacks are infused with Cryo and deal increased DMG, while also accumulating "Joy".

Lohen's Resource Bar.

Joy and Will to Win can be indicated through this bar. Accumulating Joy allows you to use Lohen's special Skill Etched Into Bone and Soul, which can only be accessed with enough Joy and during the Masterstroke mode. Will to Win points can increase the damage dealt by Etched Into Bone and Soul or Lohen's Burst Manifest Judgment during the Masterstroke state.

3.

Will to Win points

Joy can be accumulated by using Lohen's Cryo-infused Normal and Charged Attacks during the Masterstroke state, while Will to Win is gained through off-field party members dealing damage. Whenever an off-field party member deals off-field damage, Lohen gains 1 Will to Win point, up to 100 points; this can be accelerated through Lohen's first passive Moratorium on Questioning.

  • When a party member deals damage equal to or greater than 1000% of Lohen's Base ATK, gains 20 Will to Win points
  • When a party member deals damage equal to or greater than 3000% of Lohen's Base ATK, gains 80 Will to Win points

Base ATK is dependent on the character's level and weapon. To put that into context, with a Lv90 Lohen equipped with Deathmatch, your off-field party members will need to deal the following amounts of damage:

DMG required Will to Win Points Gained
8,008 or more DMG (1000%) 20 Points
23,507 or more DMG (3000%) 80 Points

A well-invested Escoffier in a freeze team or a melt hit from Durin in a melt or burn melt team can easily reach the 80-point requirement, granting 80 points before combat, with the remaining 20 points being easy to gain. Each time Lohen's skill Etched Into Bone and Soul or burst Manifest Judgment is used during the Masterstroke state, all Will to Win points will be consumed to increase DMG dealt, and gaining them back is not difficult to do.

4.

Lohen's Passives

Lohen's other passives also serve to increase his damage, and he interestingly does not have an exploration passive.

For Lohen's 4th Ascension Passive Flippant Masterpiece, when a party member triggers a Cryo elemental reaction such as Melt or Freeze, both Lohen and the party member gain 15% ATK for 8s.

In place of an exploration passive, Lohen's additional passive When the Mood Strikes increases his elemental skill level by 1, which also increases the multipliers of his Cryo-infused normal attacks during the Masterstroke state. The level increase lasts for 9s, and potentially up to 15s if no other party member has a lower skill / burst / normal attack level than Lohen's skill.

As for Lohen's Hexerei Passive Witch's Eve Rite: Unhealing Thorn, after using Lohen's skill Etched Into Bone and Soul or burst Manifest Judgment during the Masterstroke state, his Normal and Charged Attack damage increases by 40% for 6 seconds if his Will to Win points are at 50% or more.

5.

Lohen's Combo & Rotation

Lohen's main gameplay rotation would be to enter the Masterstroke state and use his Normal and Charged attacks along with his skill Etched Into Bone and Soul or burst Manifest Judgment. During the Masterstroke state, Lohen can either spam his Normal Attacks or mix them up with his Charged Attack; however, the most effective combo would be to just spam his charged attack.

Holding Normal Attack would first trigger Lohen's 1st Normal Attack, followed by his Charged Attack. This charged attack takes up a short amount of time and consumes very little stamina, much lower than other polearm users. This pattern is indicated as N1C.

Lohen's Cryo application has an unusual property where only 5 Cryo applications can happen every 6 seconds; this is mostly relevant for when Lohen is played in a Melt or Burn Melt team. To circumvent this, Lohen can use his special elemental skill Etched Into Bone and Soul when enough Joy is accumulated through spamming N1C. Lohen's skill will deal a decent amount of damage while also applying Cryo just as the 6s Cryo application cooldown ends. Doing 4 N1C can generally fill up the Joy Bar.

Whenever available, Lohen's burst Manifest Judgment can also be used to deal damage instead of using his skill. For example, in a team with Citlali, Nicole, and Durin, a simple rotation could follow:

Team Rotation: Nicole EQ > Citlali EQ > Durin EEQ > Lohen 4N1C E 4N1C E 4N1C (E or Q)

Lohen's Best Constellations

This Constellation ranking is calculated in a team including Durin, Nicole, and Xilonen.

Constellation Improvement from Previous Total
C0 - 100%
C1 6.32% 106.32%
C2 11.30% 118.34%
C3 3.97% 123.05%
C4 ~0% 123.05%
C5 1.21% 124.53%
C6 13.09% 140.83%

Lohen's first constellation O Breezes, That So Oft Bear Sorrowful Lament increases the maximum limit of Will to Win by 300%, which effectively also increases the damage buff to his Skill and Burst. Additionally, while in the Masterstroke state, Will to Win accumulated through off-field party members is increased by 500%, which makes it much easier to reach the new maximum of 300 points. Overall, this constellation provides a moderate damage increase while making Will to Win points much easier to get.

C2 In Flight, I Strike Whatever Flies is a great stopping point if you want to invest into Lohen's Constellations. During the Masterstroke state, for the next 4s after Lohen's skill or burst is used, an additional attack will unleash if Lohen's normal or charged attack hits an opponent, and party members will gain 200 EM. This effect can trigger once every 7s, providing more personal DMG for Lohen while also buffing party members.

C3 and C5 are both skill level increases.

Lohen's C4 Radiant Love, Laughing Death will allow the first instance of his Burst during the Masterstroke state to launch with the full amount of Will to Win points regardless. It will additionally restore 15 energy. This constellation does not directly increase Lohen's damage, but adds quality of life to Lohen's burst.

Lohen's sixth constellation To Drown, to Sink, Unconscious — Supreme Joy is his single largest damage gain. Once every 7s when Etched Into Bone and Soul is used during the Masterstroke state, Joy will not be consumed and an additional Etched Into Bone and Soul can be used, with all the damage from Lohen's skill having an additional 175% CRIT DMG. This constellation essentially allows for 2 additional uses of Lohen's Skill during the Masterstroke state while also increasing its CRIT DMG.

Investment Priority: Weapon > Constellation 1 > Constellation 2

Lohen's Signature Weapon Disaster and Remorse can provide the largest damage boost compared to his early constellations. Note that this comparison assumes a baseline of an R5 White Tassel, and the boost from the signature weapon can be smaller or larger depending on the weapon you are comparing it to.

Lohen's first constellation on its own does not provide as large a damage boost as Durin or Nicole's first constellation. If the goal is only to get a single constellation, it can be worthwhile to consider investing into Durin or Nicole's constellations before Lohen.
