Mualani Guide and Best Builds for Genshin Impact

Mualani is a powerful Hydro DPS who primarily scales on based on HP.

Mualani's best weapon at the moment is her signature Surf's Up which grants huge buffs to her HP, CRIT DMG and Normal Attack DMG. Other great options include Tome of the Eternal Flow, The Widsith and Sacrificial Jade. The new craftable weapon Ring of Yaxche is another amazing 4-Star option but may take time to R5 due to needing the billets.

Obsidian Codex is by far her best artifact set and definitely the one you want to aim for especially with how much of the teams damage she provides. Her next best options are Marechaussee Hunter and Unfinished Reverie but both come with restrictions. Marechaussee requires Furina to be in the party while Unfinished Reverie requires Burning to be occurring.

Mualani's artifact substats are CRIT DMG, CRIT Rate, HP % and Elemental Mastery. CRIT Rate is a slightly less important in terms of priority due to Mualani scaling off of CRIT Rate and also gaining more CRIT Rate from Obsidian Codex anyway. It is still an important stat, just make sure not to overcap.

Elemental Skill is by far Mualani's most important Talent to level. Sharky's Bite DMG which is triggered by Normal Attacks actually scales based off of her Elemental Skill so do not level her Normal Attack.

Mualani is a Hypercarry DPS who attacks slowly but each hit deals massive DMG. Because of her slow attack frequency this allows other characters in her teams to setup reactions easily without her Hydro getting in the way. Because of this she is best used in Vaporize.

Mualani's Rotation is:

In AoE situations you simply spam Sharky Surging but this will heavily depend on the situation. Most grouped situations use weaker enemies which can make it harder to keep the enemies grouped because they die too easily.

Mualani's core mechanic is based around her Elemental skill Surfshark Wavebreaker. This allows her to surf on her shark and consumes Nightsoul points. While on the wavebreaker, mualani can make contact with enemies and applies the "Marked as Prey" marker to them. This also grants a Wave Momentum stack up to a maximum of 3 stacks.

This also has a 0.7s cooldown on the same enemy, meaning after almost a second if you are in contact with the same enemy you will gain an additional Wave Momentum stack. This is useful especially in larger boss fights.

Using Normal Attacks in this state will convert them into Sharky's Bites. This damage scales based on how many Wave Momentum Stacks Mualani has. Always do this on 3 stacks as 3 stacks is a significant damage upgrade over 1/2 stacks. Up to 5 nearby marked enemies will also take damage from Shark Missiles which provides Mualani with AoE coverage.

Mualani's best teams currently focus around the Vaporize reaction often using characters such as Xiangling and Dehya to help facilitate these reactions for high damage. The issue currently is that both of these 2 main off-field sources of Pyro have major drawbacks.

Xiangling requires an extreme amount of Energy Recharge, often around the 250-300% area so that she can use Pyronado every rotation while Dehya does not provide anywhere near as much Pyro and brings in little to no damage.

Throughout Natlan, these teams will likely drastically change as more characters can use Nightsoul and are specifically designed around other Natlan characters.

This is currently one of Mualani's best teams using Dehya as your Pyro character and Emilie for Burning to take place alongside her powerful off-field damage. Sucrose is used to provide RES Shred from the VV artifact set but Nahida can be a great substitute.

This is instead a team that uses Xiangling for increased Pyro application but comes at the cost of Xiangling needing around 300% Energy Recharge. This team does overall produce very high damage thanks to both Xianglings damage and the buffs Furina provides.

Candace can be a great support for Mualani at the moment due to bringing both Normal Attack buffs as well as Hydro Resonance. This works in teams using Xiangling especially with either a support such as Zhongli who provides shielding and RES Shred or Emilie who brings increased damage.
