Neuvillette Guide and Best Builds for Genshin Impact
Neuvillette is a 5-star Hydro character who utilizes powerful Charged Attack: Equitable Judgment to unleash huge Hydro damage. These charged attacks trigger his water cannon which can be channelled and aimed at packs of enemies, but this attack has a four second charge up unless you collect his Sourcewater Droplets which lower the cast time. This unique mechanic creates a fun, active, on-field play style for Neuvillette.
Strengths and Weaknesses
- High AoE DPS attack.
- Naturally scales on CRIT DMG.
- Stand alone DPS meaning they do not need reactions to deal high damage.
- Can easily be Interrupted.
- Need high investment.
Neuvillette Main DPS Build
Neuvillette is all about gathering Sourcewater Droplets and activating his water cannon. These droplets come from both of his abilities, leaving them on the ground behind for Neuvillette to suck up and power up his charged attack. As a Main DPS, we focus on augmenting his damage as much as possible through his gear, artifacts and teammates to create devastating elemental reactions on top of his extremely strong personal DPS.

Neuvillette's damage is focused around Charged Attack: Equitable Judgment, which uses his HP instead of consuming Stamina. His current HP also scales his charged attack at the time of casting, so we want to stack his HP as high as possible through both Weapon choice and Artifacts. Outside of high HP % rolls, we need to aim for CRIT stats to multiply his personal damage output.
Another component of Neuvillette's DPS is his Energy Recharge, this is important as we need to balance how quickly his skills become available so we can collect his Sourcewater Droplets. Typically, we want to aim for around 160% Energy Recharge for the majority of Neuvillette's team compositions, however, this can be lowered depending on if we have strong energy generation from the rest of his team. We will dive deeper into the mechanics surrounding his charged attacks in the next section.
Combos and How to Play Neuvillette
Understanding how Neuvillette's charged attack works is the key to finding success with him as your Main DPS. First, we need to understand that his normal attacks deal fairly weak Hydro Damage. It is only when you use Charged Attack: Equitable Judgment that his true potential shines. This charged attack has several components to it and we need to manage each one for it to work properly. Failing to do so will cause the water cannon to take 4 seconds to activate, leaving you vulnerable while you wait.
Sourcewater Droplets are created by Neuvillette's Elemental Skill, O Tears, I Shall Repay, and his Elemental Burst, O Tides, I Have Returned . These skills produce three Sourcewater Droplets and six Sourcewater Droplets, respectively. These Sourcewater Droplets not only speed up the casting time for Charged Attack: Equitable Judgment, but they also heal him, counteracting the health drain from usage of the skill. Therefore, it is vital for us to produce as many Sourcewater Droplets as possible from his skills which is why Energy Recharge is such an important component of his build.
The first time you play Neuvillette can feel very awkward, especially if you do not have a good grasp on how to use his Sourcewater Droplets correctly, but overtime you will find it very smooth. Once you add in the right team composition to keep him buffed and in the fight, the results are amazing. While Neuvillette has so many positives going for him, he has one major drawback; he can be knocked out of his charged attack by enemies, this is his Achilles heel. His Venerable Institution (C1) does counteract this somewhat by giving him resistance to being interrupted but ultimately this is where shield teammates are critical to his success.
Neuvillette's Best Team Comps
As we have mentioned, Neuvillette is a powerhouse of DPS, but can be knocked over easily if we get interrupted. So one element we will constantly be utilizing within his team compositions is shielders, whether this is from crystallized reactions or a shield skill - keeping him safe while channelling is the key to success.
Neuvillette Hypercarry Teams
Main DPS | Sub DPS | Support | Support |
---|---|---|---|
Neuvillette | Fischl | Kaedehara Kazuha | Zhongli |
Main DPS | Support | Support | Support |
Neuvillette | Furina | Kaedehara Kazuha |
Neuvillette's best team comps tend to revolve around his Hypercarry playstyle which primarily focuses on the damage he can provide to the team. In both examples, Kaedehara Kazuha is used to help decrease the enemies Hydro RES as well as providing an Elemental DMG bonus to Hydro with his Ascension passive, Soumon Swordsmanship.
In the first example, Fischl brings powerful off-field DPS while Zhongli also brings RES Shred as well as interruption RES which is important at C0. In the second example, Furina is instead used alongside Baizhu or Charlotte as suitable healers to help generate Fanfare stacks. Baizhu is the best choice here as any Blooms generated can both add DMG and count towards Heir to the Ancient Sea's Authority.
Neuvillette Hypercarry with Xilonen
Main DPS | Support | Support | Support |
---|---|---|---|
Neuvillette | Kaedehara Kazuha | Furina | Xilonen |
Update 5.1 has made this build extremely popular as a Hypercarry option. One of the new characters, Xilonen, allows Neuvillette to gain even more power than before. Adding Xilonen as an additional healer, improves Fanfare generation from Furina and the RES Shred she provides completely outclasses previous versions with Zhongli's resistance debuff. However, this new version of leaves Neuvillette open to disruption and breaking his attacks, requiring players to be much more careful with their positioning.
Neuvillette Hyperbloom Team
Main DPS | Sub DPS | Sub DPS | Shielder |
---|---|---|---|
Neuvillette | Nahida | Raiden Shogun |
Neuvillette is able to perform as an on-field Hydro applicator in Hyperbloom teams alongside a Dendro character without having to change his build at all. Nahida is a great fit for this team with her powerful Dendro application as well as off-field DMG while Raiden Shogun provides incredible Electro application. A shielder is ideal in this situation with Kirara being able to both help apply Dendro as well as increase interruption RES. Zhongli can also be used and provides RES Shred instead of Elemental application, but he is often useful in other Spiral Abyss teams meaning he may not always be available.
Neuvillette Freeze Team
Main DPS | Buffer | Support | Shielder - Cryo |
---|---|---|---|
Neuvillette | Kaedehara Kazuha | Rosaria | Diona |
This Freeze team has so much CC, it's almost comical to play. We start our team off with Kaedehara Kazuha as our buffer and support to help group enemies together. Once he has used his skills, we swap to Neuvillette to apply Hydro to all enemies with his O Tears, I Shall Repay and a blast of Charged Attack: Equitable Judgment. Next, we bring out Rosaria to slam Rites of Termination down onto the battlefield, a fast swap over to Diona for her shield skill and burst. Then go back to Neuvillette for his Burst skill, O Tides, I Have Returned , to create more Sourcewater Droplets on the field for his to use his charged attack. Now simply rinse and repeat, keeping the enemies locked in a Frozen state as you blast them down with Neuvillette.
